im looking at getting my hgv soon ive had a psv (bus and coach) for 5 years now driving coaches all over but im looking at £1000 just for my class 2!!! you got any tips on getting your license??
Yes, the Scania has a nice easy gearchange. Did my class 2 training and test in a Scania 220d rigid with the 4 over 4 rangechange box. Did my class 1 in a Scania artic with pretty much the same gearbox, except it has a crawler gear and a low and high reverse. Of course, you never use anything lower than 2nd when you're pulling an empty trailer.
haha i drove my dads mates scania 113 for emr scrap wankers nd dat was easyer dan driveing the iveco 7.5 tonne i drive sum times but even the 7.5 tonnes are restricted to 56 mph haha oh well
The truck in this video has over a million clicks on it and shifting is like moving a baseball bat around a barrel of coconuts. If it looks like i'm forcing the stick its because I am! I've heard plenty of other drivers of old FMs complain about stiff shifters. Current ride is a Scania 113 4x4 and it has a beautiful 10 speeder which can be operated with one finger just about so I'll get a video of that put up so I can demonstrate that I'm not a gearbox abuser!
I just read the other comments and it would apear I am not the only one to notice your disregard for the gear box .I always wonderd how gearsticks end up like a spoon in a bowl of poridge
is it possible to get a driving job under 25, Im nearly 17 and wanting to get a van driving job, eventually i would like to be a long distance lorry driver, but apprantly its hard under 25 to get a driving job because companys wont pay insurance or something... :(
@MrFaulconbridge don't give up hope before you try I started at 19 on a 7.5 all it meant was A big exess on the insurance but I think you have to be a least 18 .
@blobby1972 Hey thanks, Was it a major company like a supermarket or did you go with a smaller company? I think i might have a chance because some company even do apprenticeships which train you up to class 1. I wonder if I have a chance driving for some well known supermarkets such as sainsburys taking on people at 18 - 25.
@MrFaulconbridge the company was a small famly firm .if you go to supermarkets expect to be redused to a number by some litle hitler.that hate that he can't control you once you pull out of the gates .I heared somwere stobart helps young people into the industry at 18 .
@MrFaulconbridge if supermarkets are your only way in then make sure once you have got some expereance get out soon as poss before they break your idea of what you want to do and a bit of advice going fast does not make you a good driver reliable time keeper safety first and pride in what you do makes a good driver.respected by the boss.,
@MrFaulconbridge just 1 more thing if you want it bad enough you will get there but don't wish your life away make the most of been 17 get to know a few drivers every job I've had was through word of mouth .they came looking for me once I got going not meaning to brag lol but thats how it was .there are people who drive trucks and there are people who are born to drive trucks I cut myself once and I 'm sure I could smell diesel lol.
@blobby1972 Lol thanks for the advice, well I'v always had a love for trucks and loved being out on the road with my uncle (hes retired now). I Loved every minute trucking with my uncle so this career is like a dream to me. But the haulage industry can be hard to get into for younger people as a lot of firms also like you to have 2 years experience of driving Heavy Goods aswell :(.
@blobby1972 I'll have a look into eddie stobart and see what other companys can offer to younger people, I got to get my car licence first though before I can do any sort of driving!
that =s not too bad, in england i would pay that just for class 2 twojka. because my mum is polish i have a polish passport so i was thinking about taking my test there.
well get your driving licence when you're 17, then when you turn 21 apply to the DVLA for the medical form and licence app' form..........send it all off and then find an instructor.
thanks, but I know i can drive a car at 17, but because i cant drive larger vehicles untill 21, how am i going to make a living once iv left school? could i just be a van driver untill i turn 21?
thats how i started out as van driving and moved up from there..that was back in 98 i took my class 2.
so yeah get a van driving job to start with and that way ur learn routes/map reading (even tho ur have a satnav still best know how to read a road map)
or even go to a few distrabution /haulage companies and see if you can get a job in there yard (not sure on age limites to work in yards tho.
but what ever you decide..hope it works out for you GL
i dont like the way your chewing gum and driving, you think your something special so what if your driving a lorry and what mate? Also you look like a racist git and what a crap song, sounds like someone drunk messing about
Ive recently passed my hgv class2 and Im finding it hard to get a job because all the firms are asking for experience. Any advice on how to get started?
8 speed plus a splitter? In your cab tour vid it looks like a normal 8 speed 4 over 4 didnt think they'd be much point putting a splitter on a 26 tonner
I think I meant to say 8 speed plus a crawler. It definately doesn't have a spillter, I don't know that volvo do a 16 speed box, i've only ever come across 14 speeders.
was your truck loaded on your test..it's all good if your empty or light..i carry kegs..25 30 tun loaded..try and block change with that..it aint happenin...
True and I have driven fully laden 26 tons gross. But in this video I'm empty and block changing is recommended by the minestry and the industry. Even volvo recommend it, as it saves fuel, wear and driver fatigue.
Very rarely have more than a couple of tons on. High volume low weight. Don't agree with using all the gears. She pulls away in 3rd very happily, though I use second most times. Change as often as necessary but as little as possible keeping it in the green. When CPC comes in you'll be expected to block change. Empty and on the flat 2, 4, 6, 7, 8 works very well. Volvo motors like pulling low down remember.
Great video, I've seen all the trucking ones you've done. I'm only 14 (15 on Aug 1st '08) and I've always wanted to drive trucks. I did some driving on my Work Experience, and I got to drive an Atego, FH13, 95XF, FM12 and a few cars while washing them in the yard. I loved every second of it, and I can't wait until I'm in the driving seat like you. As I said before, great video, and well done on passing your test!
What company you wiv and like the volvo for wat i can see n ss1 i same as u just that i 15 in august and as of next year we only have 2-3 years to go but it means u need to go for ur driver cpc but its worthit to me and also wen i pass i goin wiv prestons hopefully gettin a daf or renault premium hopefully also very great vid n i didnt realise that it was u in that learnin to drive lorry vid thats ace vid too
Nice video mate, I'm only 15 but wish to get my HGV as soon as I can.. preferably in to the bigger lorries like the FH16 etc. Probably the newer model by the time I get my license. Very nice :D

good fun if you like driving, but be under no doubt that its hard work. Long tiring hours and unpredictability, at least in my line.
Truck featured has an 8 speed range change plus a splitter. Volvo boxes are nice to use generally.
