How did Islam become so "great and glorious"? Islam is a religion that believes in conquering, torturing, ravishing, plundering, pillaging all infidels unless they accept upon themselves the allegiance of Islam. A conquered territory (or country) may be carnaged and looted. Ransom is not just condoned by the Koran; it is specifically stated that this is the methodology to use in warfare. It was clear - it was revealed in the Arabic that was spoken by the people during Prophet Muhammed's time. How else would they be able to understand it if it was revealed in another language? And if there were any misunderstandings, the Prophet (Saw) showed the correct way in doing things in the Hadiths. Allah swt's 'target audience' understood the Qur'an perfectly.

So there are no differences in interpretation, no varying sects of Islam because they all understood it perfectly?! Clear, indeed!
For a global target audience, a sensible implemetation would have been to have the Qur'an given to different cultures in different languages directly, with an independent companion script that would act as a Rosetta stone between the different languages.
But that would be too miraculous, now wouldn't it?
There are only 2 major sects in Islam, and their differences are mainly not religious. The differences between sunni and shia are simply a case of which person was to take leadership of the Muslim nation after the death of the Prophet (s.a.w). Those who believed the person should be from the Prophet's bloodline, Ali r.a, are called 'Shiat Ali' aka party of Ali r.a.
The party who believed the person should be somebody who was capable, in this case Abu Bakr Siddique r.a, are called 'Sunni' aka those who follow the way. There are only minor differences in interpretation which don't affect Islam in any way. Your second point points to *why* Allah swt didn't send messengers to different cultures. In your statement, you're asking me to question Allah swt's will. Who am I to question His will? He does as He pleases.
True, the sectarian differences are MAINLY political, yet not wholly so. By your own admission, misunderstandings arise that require another text (the hadith) to clarify the Quran's meaning. Some schools of thought within Islam completely disregard the Hadith. What happens to these misunderstandings then?

" I Have left you with two things, as long as you hold to them, you will never go astray, they are the Book of Allah and My Sunnah "
The point I'm trying to make is that the minor differences in interpretation don't matter, because the foundation of the religion is there. The people who change the foundation of the religion are not considered Muslims (for instance, Ahmadi individuals are not considered Muslims).
As the saying goes, the devil is in the detail! Aaiil (dot) org would strongly disagree with you there. The Ahmadiyya would say that non-Ahmadi aren't doing enough to spread the cause of Islam!
And your out of hand rejection of those in YOUR OWN FAITH shows the core problem with religion as a whole. Interpretation is always a problem with text, even allegedly "clear" text.
The majority isn't always right. One should always think for oneself and not simply accept what one is told.
Ahmadi's are not Muslims and what you believe on the matter won't affect what the Muslim world believes about this group of people regarding faith.
Anyway, that's not the issue. Aside from the recommendation that Muslims should learn Arabic because many things are lost in translation, everyone comes to a text with their own bias and Muslims look to the Hadiths, the Sahaba, the Tabi'een, the Taba tabi'een and the scholars of Islam before making any judgements.
I have absolutely no belief regarding the Ahmadi's, but it simply and clearly illustrates my point about clarity, which was the entire issue.
If you already think you have all the answers, you have no incentive to investigate further. If contrary evidence arises, you will dismiss it out of hand simply due to the arrogance of your assumed position of "possessor of ultimate knowledge".
All downfalls have come about from this stance and long term progress is inevitably doomed.
I have already mentioned the steps Muslims take to determine halal and haram. Evidence Muslims use is Qur'an and Sunnah and if an issue isn't resolved, then the 1st and 2nd generations of Muslims and their views are taken into account. It isn't a case of one Muslim saying he/she 'possesses ultimate knowledge'. Our only evidences are the ones mentioned above and Muslims only use these sources to make decisions. Muslims are not supposed to take the Qur'an and interpret it themselves.
If one was alone, able to read arabic and found a copy of the Quran, having no other contact with any other person, the Quran would be insufficiently clear to guide the person in isolation. By your own admission, they would require the lens of the Sunnah, the practice of a fallible man (re:53:19-20) and possibly the views of early muslims, also fallible men.
Thus the Quran's (Allah's) message is NOT clear in isolation to it's target audience, which was my original point.
In this day and age, that person would have to learn Quranic Arabic, after which, the Qur'an's meaning would become crystal clear. For any believer, learning a language isn't difficult. I'm learning Arabic right now. In regards to your point about the Sunnah, it is stated by the Qur'an that Muslims should follow the Sunnah. And it is stated by the Sunnah that the first few generations of Muslims followed Islam correctly which is why we look to the first few generations for guidance too.
The Qur'an's target audience is the whole world. And the Qur'an states that we must follow the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammed s.a.w, which guides as well as the Qur'an. It's really not a difficult concept to understand
The concept is not at all difficult, but the practice illustrates the point. Believe what you will. If the whole world is the target, there are far simpler more effective ways that even a child could conceive of, let alone the apparent creator of the universe!

How did Islam become so "great and glorious"? Islam is a religion that believes in conquering, torturing, ravishing, plundering, pillaging all infidels unless they accept upon themselves the allegiance of Islam. A conquered territory (or country) may be carnaged and looted. Ransom is not just condoned by the Koran; it is specifically stated that this is the methodology to use in warfare. He pronounced the word " Qatalahum" and translated it " God killed them. The actual word is "Qaatalahum" which means to fight or curse. It was clear - it was revealed in the Arabic that was spoken by the people during Prophet Muhammed's time. How else would they be able to understand it if it was revealed in another language? And if there were any misunderstandings, the Prophet (Saw) showed the correct way in doing things in the Hadiths. Allah swt's 'target audience' understood the Qur'an perfectly.

For a global target audience, a sensible implemetation would have been to have the Qur'an given to different cultures in different languages directly, with an independent companion script that would act as a Rosetta stone between the different languages.
But that would be too miraculous, now wouldn't it?

There are only 2 major sects in Islam, and their differences are mainly not religious. The differences between sunni and shia are simply a case of which person was to take leadership of the Muslim nation after the death of the Prophet (s.a.w). Those who believed the person should be from the Prophet's bloodline, Ali r.a, are called 'Shiat Ali' aka party of Ali r.a.

The party who believed the person should be somebody who was capable, in this case Abu Bakr Siddique r.a, are called 'Sunni' aka those who follow the way. There are only minor differences in interpretation which don't affect Islam in any way. Your second point points to *why* Allah swt didn't send messengers to different cultures. In your statement, you're asking me to question Allah swt's will. Who am I to question His will? He does as He pleases.

True, the sectarian differences are MAINLY political, yet not wholly so. By your own admission, misunderstandings arise that require another text (the hadith) to clarify the Quran's meaning. Some schools of thought within Islam completely disregard the Hadith. What happens to these misunderstandings then?
"A clear message perfectly understood by its target audience" would never lead to a situation like this. If indeed a God wrote it, there would be precisely no misunderstandings, don't you see?

There are religious differences e.g. many Shia regard their imams as sinless, inerrant interpreters of the Quran.
But even in your reply, Mohammad says:

which implies the "Book of Allah" would not be sufficient ON ITS OWN. If the Quran was clear, why the need for the Sunnah?

The point I'm trying to make is that the minor differences in interpretation don't matter, because the foundation of the religion is there. The people who change the foundation of the religion are not considered Muslims (for instance, Ahmadi individuals are not considered Muslims).

As the saying goes, the devil is in the detail! Aaiil (dot) org would strongly disagree with you there. The Ahmadiyya would say that non-Ahmadi aren't doing enough to spread the cause of Islam!
And your out of hand rejection of those in YOUR OWN FAITH shows the core problem with religion as a whole. Interpretation is always a problem with text, even allegedly "clear" text.
The majority isn't always right. One should always think for oneself and not simply accept what one is told.

Ahmadi's are not Muslims and what you believe on the matter won't affect what the Muslim world believes about this group of people regarding faith.
Anyway, that's not the issue. Aside from the recommendation that Muslims should learn Arabic because many things are lost in translation, everyone comes to a text with their own bias and Muslims look to the Hadiths, the Sahaba, the Tabi'een, the Taba tabi'een and the scholars of Islam before making any judgements.

I have absolutely no belief regarding the Ahmadi's, but it simply and clearly illustrates my point about clarity, which was the entire issue.
If you already think you have all the answers, you have no incentive to investigate further. If contrary evidence arises, you will dismiss it out of hand simply due to the arrogance of your assumed position of "possessor of ultimate knowledge".
All downfalls have come about from this stance and long term progress is inevitably doomed.

I have already mentioned the steps Muslims take to determine halal and haram. Evidence Muslims use is Qur'an and Sunnah and if an issue isn't resolved, then the 1st and 2nd generations of Muslims and their views are taken into account. It isn't a case of one Muslim saying he/she 'possesses ultimate knowledge'. Our only evidences are the ones mentioned above and Muslims only use these sources to make decisions. Muslims are not supposed to take the Qur'an and interpret it themselves.

OK, simply stated:
If one was alone, able to read arabic and found a copy of the Quran, having no other contact with any other person, the Quran would be insufficiently clear to guide the person in isolation. By your own admission, they would require the lens of the Sunnah, the practice of a fallible man (re:53:19-20) and possibly the views of early muslims, also fallible men.
Thus the Quran's (Allah's) message is NOT clear in isolation to it's target audience, which was my original point.

In this day and age, that person would have to learn Quranic Arabic, after which, the Qur'an's meaning would become crystal clear. For any believer, learning a language isn't difficult. I'm learning Arabic right now. In regards to your point about the Sunnah, it is stated by the Qur'an that Muslims should follow the Sunnah. And it is stated by the Sunnah that the first few generations of Muslims followed Islam correctly which is why we look to the first few generations for guidance too.
