please, if you get the time, check out the video i made about jeeps it's freaking AMAZING, you WILL NOT be dissapointed. i think it deserves more views!
@funtarded hahahah atrust me, that song will never be used again by me. so overused cuz it's the only known song on audioswap basically ha. thanks tho
@MNwildFranchise They really do gotta work on that. Almost every vid up has either that tune, or the other synth-driven tecno-faggotry that is everywhere on youtube these days. We've just gotta be more brazen in including actual music in the original uploads, which unfortunately involves buying an editor suite for me. Maybe I'll start with a camera. *sigh*
@MNwildFranchise Or change the bpm, or a few notes, or a few words. One of my favourite tricks is to find a tune with a good beat, find a clean segment of rythm melody or beat, crop a 5-8 second sample, and loop it. I did this to Dr. Dres' "whats the difference" and now have a clean 3 min. generic rap bassline. And that's just with the crappy sound recorder that came with windows. It's a really basic tool, but with some knowhow it can be pretty cool. Still need an edit suite to match it to vids
Whats the points of that strap in the from? obviously it would help against rolling but it would have to be attached to something and not just held...
the surprising part isnt the leafs in the front... thats be done before many times. works well. the surprising part is the leafs in he front and COILS in the rear.
just a question though, i don't dissagree with the leafs at all, but don't xj's come stock with leafs in the back?? then why go for the coil conversion?
but really nice jeep, just wish mine could preform like that!
To all the smart fuck couch crawlers. I bough this jeep Off Ebay. Other than the shitty motor it had, (sounded like a diesel) the rig crawls extremely well. (5.88:1 axle ratios) I've had it out a dozen times or more, its almost tough to find spots to pick up a tire, big rocks, I've hit some pretty good angles with it. It hasn't been rolled. Yet!
@tyrefryer93 your right , especially for that terrain, but his family has been rock climbing for over 40 years so they should already know that . I guess they musta drove it there from home and forgot to let the air out a little when they hit the trail.
I agree with JIMCANTPLAY. I wouldnt even think of takin that out rock crawlin. you just look like its gana break. to much of a lift, though sexy, not for this. hope nothing bad has happened to it
i think jeep cherokees are one of the most beautiful jeeps ever built. ive seen many jeeps and 4x4's hooked up but theres just that little something about the xj that makes them look badass compared to most!!
@rossmantravis I totally agree. I can afford a tricked out Rubicon, but I just LOVE my XJ instead. I think it's the best looking 4x4 ever. There's something about them that is perfect for me.
Mine is an 89 laredo. And you are right. It does have the old style, just watched the vid again and a closer look proves your right. Maybe its a hatch and taillights off and 84-96 on a "98"
Talk about a high COG setup! Theres no reason for that much lift unless your going mudding, thats a jeep designed to just flip on big rock crawls. very dangerous
@jimcantplay You have to think about flexing though. He needs at least enough lift so hir tires dont get shoved into the cab. Not disagreeing with you, just wanted to make a point.
this is a totally custom, one off, suspension, and the guy bellow you, nextgenerationmma, is right, a leaf spring front and coil rear is a strange (and possibly inferior) setup.
Some good companies for lift kits are Rustys Offroad, or Rough Country.
why leaf front coil rear, the leaf rear coil front is way better and more stable that thing bounces like a slinky on a trampoline, too tall and too soft.
Nice, not a 1998, rather a 1995 and older. Very nice flexing and your spotter almost had the same graphics over his body than those on you hood haha. you're not running an Chrysler 8.25 back there, aren't you? :P haha
Nice keep I had a jeep but I got it impounded when I got a dwi so I bought a 88' blazer put some fox shox cut the top and gave it some Mickey thopsons I got for free but I blew out my rear end I'm looking for one but there all 10 and I need a 12 bolt...
first off, the spotter shouldnt have been up that close. and both the driver and spotter are aware of each other, a spotter should kno to get out of the way.
second. i love how the way the suspension was done. some say its to high, but why not go all out. ohh u need an exocage..bs. not everyone is made of money.
this rig looks like it was made of parts that were laying around and i truly admire that.
i saw the owner say that leafs get better articulation? wow..
it needs: -to be dropped at least 5 inches and trimmed to fit tires -to get rid of the leafs altogether -get a new owner who knows how to drive -much bigger axles or smaller tires -.... actually it needs to be torn apart and started completely over... its beyond help at this point.
get rid of the leafs? your a fucking idiot they do get great articulation and why the hell do u say smaller tires bigger is always better in rock crawlin. the axles seem plenty strong to me
Too tall, too fast, and just plain stupid/pointless sorry but tis the truth. Slow down, lower that thing back to reasonable height and get some armor underneath. You dont see rock buggies ten feet in the air...there's a reason but you obviously dont understand that which you proved with your driving.
I agree. WAY too tall. What's the point? The diffs are still way down there and now the Jeep is extremely tippy with the rear coils. I think when a driver lacks skill he relies on his vehicle to compensate. Hence the giant XJ.
And going too fast ... the title says "rock crawler", not "rock driving like a moron". That's a good way for someone to get hurt.
wow. drama, drama, drama. i personally am very fond of the front and rear coil setup. i find it hard to believe that a leaf sprung vehicle could give a fella (or gal) more articulation.too many limiting factors. i scored 141 on my i.q. test, but not a damn' question involved xj suspension. so what do i know? and we all just seen this jeep climb up quite a mound. i guess the proof is in the pudding. hell, you've even got me thinking about leaves. one question though. why not leaves all round?
too all you guys that complain about having leafs in the front. Let me tell you something this is not a mud riding machine it is a rock climber, the leaf springs will allow more flex, you need more flex in the front than you do in the rear, you young punk kids think you know everything but our family has been rock climbing for over 40 years, it is an 88 jeep by the way. 1 Front tire can lift over 6 feet above the ground with the last 3 tires still touching thats how much flex this thing has.
Rock climbing for 40 years? Uhm was that even possible without fabricating the parts we take for granted? I mean I don't think coilovers existed back then let alone some kind of flexible joint like heim or johnny joint. If the leafs allow more flex why not put them in the rear too? Also why do pro rock buggies have coil overs and triangulated links instead of leaf springs?
Yeah well good job nearly running over your two buddies moron. Before complaining about us young punk kids and our coilovers, learn not to drive like one.
??? Every bit of research and the hundreds of hours I have into building my rig just became completely worthless. So I would have been better off to reverse engineer my rig and put it on leaves? So, airshox and dual triangulated 4 link are obsolete? So More flex in the front is preferable to a well balanced and stable suspension? I'm so behind the times. I'll make sure to take this knowledge to my next competition. Most of us aren't even 40 yet, much less have that much experience. I have faith.
@proresearch I agree, leafs are just as good as coils. Maybe better, you can do so much more with leafs, spring over, or spring under, shackles, blocks, shackle reversal, and then you got Revalver Shackles, and Z Box Shackles from Teraflex. Can't do that much cool stuff with coils. Anyway, what size lift and tires you got under that thing? Looks tall man. Looks like you got plenty of flex, right on man. Keep Jeepin!
you need all that crap to get leafs to even compare to a properly setup link setup. revolvers suck, blocks are horrible. if you have a soft enough leaf pack that flexes alot than you need anti-wrap bars. leafs can be made to work good, but a good 4 link or 3 link will alway out perform it.
@nextgenfighter1 chill partner. No need to get all crazy. I was jst saying a leaf set is just as good as a normal coil kit. Not 3 links and 4 links, obviously that would be better.
I'm not dissing on the owner of this jeep so nobody take this the wrong way i'm just stating a fact, first of all thats not a 98 cherokee you can tell from the body style, second of all that lift is really tall and kinda unsafe so i personally would exo cage it or something protect the driver, thats all im saying, again im not dissing the owner of that rig im sure its capable and all.
At first i thought the aspect ratio was messed up and the picture was scrunched together but when I saw a person to compare it I see that that jeep has waaaay too much lift. It needs an exo-cage desperately.
yea i dont know about fixing cars but my dad lets me drive his 2004 volvo xc90 with 14 inches of clearance and its capable of 1.90 ft. of water on holy jim trail and i rock crawled in it (kindof accedentily) and it did it fine , but it dosent have norm. suspension it has dtsc wich means dynamic stablization raction control and that means the wheels can move a few inches to help with mud, dirt, rocks, and anything else that it can do
the coils along with a four-link eliminate axle wrap completely, while the front, it not having as much a problem with axle wrap is cheaper to put the leafs on it. but still im with you, i would have just done coils at all 4 corners, it would be worth the money i think.
wwaaaaaaaaayy too tall. no stability. that thing needs to be lowered about 5 inches and cut to fit the tires.
interesting how it started life with links in the front and leafs in the rear and ended up just the reverse of that. a little backwards engineering there if you ask me.
now all you podunk southerners need to go to a real competition and see how many are lifted that high......NONE!! in fact, a jeep like mine (TJ) would probably only need 3 inches of total lift tototally spank that XJ
I think you are misunderstanding this. In the south, there are ACTUAL mud pits and ACTUAL rocks that require that type of lift. How many times have YOU had mud cover your hood as you try to get to a deer stand? When you kick Bambi in the mud down here, it takes a real truck (or Jeep) to get them out. What's the 'podunk' deal too? Just because you are jealous of our culture and our mudding reputation doesn't mean you have to hate on us. Suck it!
look up WERock and URock and all those competitions and look at how those are set up. non of them are nearly as uselessly tall as yours and will go everywhere and more that yours will go.
i know what mud is and ive been in hunting places you wouldnt be able to get to simply because youre too big. my Jeep soes great for what i use it for. ive been on the Rubicon several times in the condition its in right now. it only has 2" of lift and 33" BFG ATs with an OX locked Super 35. i dare you to come
lol im not jealous of backwards engineering and retarded spotters. i have 2" of lift and go over ACTUAL rocks on the Rubicon several times a year without any bypasses. get your head out of your ass so you can see what youre doing for a change.
what id do with that XJ is crush it and start over with a different Jeep. theres so much unnecessary crap on it that it would be too much time/work/money to get it right. shame. waste of a perfectly good Jeep.

what size tires r u running on that 88 cherokee
glamisboy23 2 years ago
wow. drama, drama, drama. i personally am very fond of the front and rear coil setup. i find it hard to believe that a leaf sprung vehicle could give a fella (or gal) more articulation.too many limiting factors. i scored 141 on my i.q. test, but not a damn' question involved xj suspension. so what do i know? and we all just seen this jeep climb up quite a mound. i guess the proof is in the pudding. hell, you've even got me thinking about leaves. one question though. why not leaves all round?
IAMNOS4A2 2 years ago
too all you guys that complain about having leafs in the front. Let me tell you something this is not a mud riding machine it is a rock climber, the leaf springs will allow more flex, you need more flex in the front than you do in the rear, you young punk kids think you know everything but our family has been rock climbing for over 40 years, it is an 88 jeep by the way. 1 Front tire can lift over 6 feet above the ground with the last 3 tires still touching thats how much flex this thing has.
proresearch 2 years ago 3
Rock climbing for 40 years? Uhm was that even possible without fabricating the parts we take for granted? I mean I don't think coilovers existed back then let alone some kind of flexible joint like heim or johnny joint. If the leafs allow more flex why not put them in the rear too? Also why do pro rock buggies have coil overs and triangulated links instead of leaf springs?
madzyzome 2 years ago
Yeah well good job nearly running over your two buddies moron. Before complaining about us young punk kids and our coilovers, learn not to drive like one.
slidinrides 2 years ago

@proresearch question; how do you change a tire on a truck with 6 feet of play?
clubxtra 1 year ago
@clubxtra you put the jack under the axle : )
hood7880 1 year ago
@proresearch I agree, leafs are just as good as coils. Maybe better, you can do so much more with leafs, spring over, or spring under, shackles, blocks, shackle reversal, and then you got Revalver Shackles, and Z Box Shackles from Teraflex. Can't do that much cool stuff with coils. Anyway, what size lift and tires you got under that thing? Looks tall man. Looks like you got plenty of flex, right on man. Keep Jeepin!
8DrugFreeBoy8 1 year ago
@8DrugFreeBoy8
you need all that crap to get leafs to even compare to a properly setup link setup. revolvers suck, blocks are horrible. if you have a soft enough leaf pack that flexes alot than you need anti-wrap bars. leafs can be made to work good, but a good 4 link or 3 link will alway out perform it.
nextgenfighter1 1 year ago
@nextgenfighter1 chill partner. No need to get all crazy. I was jst saying a leaf set is just as good as a normal coil kit. Not 3 links and 4 links, obviously that would be better.

cairnsguy22 3 years ago
needs lower gaers, smaller lift.and get rid of the tooth pics that hold your wheels on.

what leafs did you use?
scullyxscully 3 years ago
i used yjs on the front coil springs on the rear
tbrooks3829 3 years ago
I'm not dissing on the owner of this jeep so nobody take this the wrong way i'm just stating a fact, first of all thats not a 98 cherokee you can tell from the body style, second of all that lift is really tall and kinda unsafe so i personally would exo cage it or something protect the driver, thats all im saying, again im not dissing the owner of that rig im sure its capable and all.

Why leafs in the front and coils in the rear?
milehighmudduck 3 years ago
got up ok though didnt it all you knockers.
DouglasR8 3 years ago
At first i thought the aspect ratio was messed up and the picture was scrunched together but when I saw a person to compare it I see that that jeep has waaaay too much lift. It needs an exo-cage desperately.
Chuckschinfist 3 years ago
So, you put coils in the rear, and leafs in the front? WTF???
dragonwake13 3 years ago
yea i dont know about fixing cars but my dad lets me drive his 2004 volvo xc90 with 14 inches of clearance and its capable of 1.90 ft. of water on holy jim trail and i rock crawled in it (kindof accedentily) and it did it fine , but it dosent have norm. suspension it has dtsc wich means dynamic stablization raction control and that means the wheels can move a few inches to help with mud, dirt, rocks, and anything else that it can do
eviltoast765 3 years ago
Yeah? and how does that have to do with my original post?
BTW, you sound like you have no idea wtf you are talking about. 1.9ft? wtf dude?
dragonwake13 3 years ago
well, im 12, i eyed it, i have photos of it covered in mud, its a fun fun truck
eviltoast765 2 years ago
the coils along with a four-link eliminate axle wrap completely, while the front, it not having as much a problem with axle wrap is cheaper to put the leafs on it. but still im with you, i would have just done coils at all 4 corners, it would be worth the money i think.
hp40orbust 3 years ago
wwaaaaaaaaayy too tall. no stability. that thing needs to be lowered about 5 inches and cut to fit the tires.
interesting how it started life with links in the front and leafs in the rear and ended up just the reverse of that. a little backwards engineering there if you ask me.
now all you podunk southerners need to go to a real competition and see how many are lifted that high......NONE!! in fact, a jeep like mine (TJ) would probably only need 3 inches of total lift tototally spank that XJ
jeepster83 3 years ago
I think you are misunderstanding this. In the south, there are ACTUAL mud pits and ACTUAL rocks that require that type of lift. How many times have YOU had mud cover your hood as you try to get to a deer stand? When you kick Bambi in the mud down here, it takes a real truck (or Jeep) to get them out. What's the 'podunk' deal too? Just because you are jealous of our culture and our mudding reputation doesn't mean you have to hate on us. Suck it!
unicyclepro 3 years ago
look up WERock and URock and all those competitions and look at how those are set up. non of them are nearly as uselessly tall as yours and will go everywhere and more that yours will go.
i know what mud is and ive been in hunting places you wouldnt be able to get to simply because youre too big. my Jeep soes great for what i use it for. ive been on the Rubicon several times in the condition its in right now. it only has 2" of lift and 33" BFG ATs with an OX locked Super 35. i dare you to come
jeepster83 3 years ago
lol im not jealous of backwards engineering and retarded spotters. i have 2" of lift and go over ACTUAL rocks on the Rubicon several times a year without any bypasses. get your head out of your ass so you can see what youre doing for a change.
what id do with that XJ is crush it and start over with a different Jeep. theres so much unnecessary crap on it that it would be too much time/work/money to get it right. shame. waste of a perfectly good Jeep.
