  • i watched 90% of this video until i realized that tootsie pops' initials are t.p. i kept thinking he was referring to toilet paper so i was really confused... :P

  • i dont know about over there but had i rcieved a "tootsie pop" in australia in the mail or at work or in the little deserted island thing infront of my house i'd think 'there is some guy trying to drug us'

but then i'd see the note take the "tootsie pops" and just die in my room a little bit...

  • Guys. guys. My psych teacher got positive pranked on the other day!! He told us at school and I was all "I know the people who started that!!! french the llama!!" And then he thought I was weird...

  • "Can I have a six inch on wheat?"

  • @yogsfan002 Certainly not a nerdfighter.

  • @yogsfan002 Who would want to do that?

  • Has anyone noticed that on rare ocasions John's Puff begins to look like a pho-hawk

ooooh Puff will you ever cease changing

  • When I was a kid I used to prank my neighbors by TP'ing them with leftover ribbons after giftwrapping at Christmastime. I thought it was a crazy rebellious thing to do at the time, because I grew up in a household that was EXTREMELY against TP'ing (thanks mom :D). I've been +Pranking for years!! And this video just got me back into it. :D

  • The tootsie pop prank is an awesome idea, but, don't you think that people still go by the general rule "don't take candy from a stranger?"

  • @ScreechSmashProducts Except on Halloween. Usually I go by the "If the package is undamaged, I am totally going for it."

  • I was about to click the link on his face when he screamed, "AAAAAAAGH!" I then proceeded to jump out of my chair, positive I had hurt him.

  • this was uplodaded on my birthday. awesome.

  • @emileeelouise

    Happy Belated Birthday!

  • @emileeelouise We almost share the same birthday! My birthday in on the 16th of September! But happy belated birthday!! DFTBA!!

  • Hard to do this exact prank in NY where all of the homes (in my area) are apartments. Must find other ways, help?

  • @CakeBeneathTheIcing Taping to the door, or sticking in front of door, or next to it, Tape individual tootsiepops to mailboxes, or just go up to random people and give them candy. Which in NY I dont think is a good idea.

  • I love the idea of positive pranking, but I think that tootsie pops contain chocolate. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but is it safe to leave chocolate in reach of dogs?

  • Um what's a tootsie pop? I'm English and I don't think we have them here.

  • @swordfish1929 Just a lollipop

  • @swordfish1929 A lollipop containing a tootsie roll (chocolate)

  • I started a group of friends that leave positive post-it notes around public places, in an attempt to adapt graffiti into a non-damaging, world-suck-reducing method of spreading joy. Check it out by googling Found Salutations! DFTBA! :)

  • Planting candy near bushes, might as well dress up as pedobear :D

  • The consequences will never be the same!!! Yes! Every now and then I forget how made of awesome you guys are and unlike most adults you know what stuff like that means!

  • I love the name J Scribble.

  • Does trick-or-treating, but pretending to be the Doctor and then running away before they can give me candy count as positive pranking? 2/3 people that got soniced (yes, that is what my friend and I called it) seemed to be amused...

  • You know, TPing the island is pretty awesome, but if I just found that somewhere, I probably wouldn't trust those Tootsie Pops...

  • Does anyone else think its weird that he's decresing world suck by giving away something people will suck.

  • 2010 john: unknowingly practicing his singing for TFIOS

  • @rainestoblame signing...

  • It's illegal to put stuff in mail boxes?! What if you want to hand deliver invitations or something to people in your neighbourhood? Sometimes America makes my head hurt.

  • @SeahorseyPrincess You put them in the newspaper box, wedge with the flag thing, put in a bag and hang it of the front, wedge it in their door. Or the good ole fashioned knock on their door and give it to them. The law is because the mail box technically belongs to the US Postal Service, hence why its a felony to damage them.

  • 1:09 "i signed all SIXTY copies of it..." John from 2010, you're in for a rude awakening if you think sixty is a lot of sheets of paper to sign.

  • all 60 copies?????

when i heard that i couldn't help thinking 'that's nothing..... wait 'till you have to sign 150,000 copies of The Fault In Our Stars' :S

  • WOW! You signed ALL 60 COPIES!?!?

  • John, positive pranking is an awesome idea although I must say that I would definetely not eat whatever I am given unless I know the person i got positive pranked by.

  • ...but what if someone had gone to target right after that desperately needing/craving tootsie pops? Poor hypothetical person...

  • I WANT THAT SIGNED PAPER!!!!!

... Even though I pre-ordered A Fault In Our Stars.

  • Signed AAAALLL 60 of them. Oh Past John, if only you knew what you were doing for 8 hours a day now.

  • @TwoKindsOfLeft that's awesome!! :D best teacher ever!

  • Oh my god. My college professor for a digital arts class I am taking linked the whole class to this video. Epic win.

  • I saw the video post about fortune cookies and now want to make some of my own with funny, positive, inspirational sayings and deliver them around my area... They will be called "fortunate cookies"

  • Exactly one year of vlogbrothers videos left in my quest to see them all in order! =D

  • @VolunteerNerdfighter One year and 11 days left for me :) Have you finished yet?

  • @eretrece I'm up to March of 2011. I think I've actually caught up to the time that I subscribed, but I'm not entirely sure; I'm going to watch the rest anyway. It's just taking me a while now since school started back; I got through most of the videos over summer. Good luck to you! =)

  • @VolunteerNerdfighter Thanks. I guess watching their videos twice won't do you any harm ;) So good luck to you as well !

  • @eretrece It certainly won't. ;D

    Have fun, and DFTBA!

  • So this past summer, several interns did several "postiive pranks" including suckers, jello, funny (yet very nerdy) jokes, riddles, candy, "I <3 U" on 12 post-its, and chocolate :). There were at least 10 in all :). It was awesome!

  • This video was posted on my birthday last year! 8O Since I will not be celebrating on my actual day of birth (it's in the middle of the week, college sucks) I think I may take this time to think of a way to positively prank my classmates. 8D It'd be a way to spread the love, rid the world of suck, and make others happy. <3

  • I'm not a violent person, but death to World Suck!

  • HAHAHAHAHA. John, in the future you won't think signing 60 copies of something is a big deal.

  • You had to put J-scribble on many sheets of paper?? Man, I bet you'd never want to do that again.

  • Yeah, I have to go make some positive pranking plans :)

  • 1:47 that's pretty much what I have always imagined Q looking like as he ran from people's houses the night of his adventures with Margo

  • the "sighing all 60" seems relatively dull now next to the tfios signing

  • Putting stuff into people's mailboxes is illegal? My neighborhood does it all the time when they want to advertise babysitting and neighborhood picnics and stuff...so maybe only in certain places??

  • "and then signed all 60 copies of it.." Such a small number. Little did he know how much signing was in his future.

  • My friend's punishment on my collab channell for not making a video is to positive prank 3 people or positive call 10 people

  • i just got positive pranked :)

  • Whoopie cushion people by putting whoopie pies in there chairs

  • Oh my gosh! You signed all 60!? :)

  • I believe the end of the note transcript in the dooblydoo should read

    "Best Wishes,

    J-Scribble"

  • '...taped a note to their bush...'

    Titter.

  • "and signed ALL SIXTY COPIES OF IT"

    little did he know...

  • Definitely doing this the day before Halloween to my friend's dorm doors.

  • The funny yet sad thing is, is that some of those people were probibly like my parents and were all like "Those toosie pops are poisined! Don't ever eat candy a random staranger gives you! nag nag nag..."

  • Now I must find pranks and nice-ify them X3

  • Man, I have to do this :3

  • It took me a minute and a half to realize that TP is the intitials of tootsie pops.

  • What did the people at target say when you bought a mountain of tootsie pops? xD

Im gonna try and get my friends to do something like this with me sometime.

  • keep pressing 9

  • "THE CONSEQUENCES WILL NEVER BE THE SAME"

I'm dead. I love you, John Green. ahdisogfuisgfgf.

  • John, What's a six inch on wheat? That's not a legitimate Subway order

  • @samnuva Haha. I worked at Subway and believe me, the employees appreciate you only giving one part of their order at a time. Bread comes first. =)

  • "The consequences will NEVER be the same!" Hahah don't you just love him?

  • "And our pranking will heal the world-OW!!!!!!"

  • "here these are for you, they're a gift. also, can i have a six inch on wheat?" lol, J Scribble, you're awesome!

  • JAY scribble

haha for some reason that made me laugh [:

  • "Hello target, I'm going to need all of your tootsie pops." I fell over laughing.

  • My friends and I are planning to make thousands of tiny origami hats, and we are going to stick them on the turning part of people's locks. And the hats will have uplifting and inspiring quotes on them, and all 1200 people at my school must get one. I just need to learn how to make the hats xD

AND I AM EXTREMELY EXCITED ABOUT THIS IDEA!

  • @thebookworm05 that sounds fantastic :) I used to make little origami boats and things with little messages on the and leave them in classrooms, but I had to stop because a) I started writing really long messages b) I found that they got binned. This might have been linked, so if you want any idea, it's probably to keep the messages short, something like "you're very pretty" or "you are loved" or "your dreams will come true" or something like that. Best of luck! x

  • "Panic! Panic! If these people find out that I'm trying to give them Tootsie pops, the consequences will never be the same!"

  • "oh hello target imma need all your twinky's" made me lol so much

  • Totally buying a bunch of tootsie pops and positive pranking the open lockers and backpacks people leave on benches at school. :D

  • you know puting anything in a mail box is a federal offence. you can go to jail for that

  • "The consequences will never be the same."

That made my month hearing John Green say that. Good to know he keeps on top of internet memes.

  • Cadbury egging people's houses

  • @floocoo I want a Cadbury egg! They're so tasty and we don't have them in Germany :(

  • @floocoo Or Faberge egging. XD

  • How was running like that when your rib was still messed up?

  • I wanna click on your face but you keep moving!

  • wow. i wonder what they would have thought if there was a thirty something year old leaving candy at their door.

  • @urfaceisausername Man, he's already thirty?

  • J-scribble.

  • I think I would be reluctant to eat a lolli that had been stuck in the ground.

  • But John, people can't click the click if it's on paper.

  • My pal Erin and I made slips of paper that looked like parking tickets on peoples cars, but when you read them they all had nice sayings or quotes :)

  • I want to go Tootsie Pop my city's subdivisions' lonely islands. :D

  • J- scribble.

    ha. niiiice.

  • I didn't even realize you had written Looking for Alaska! I just read it a few months ago and loved it!

  • I still need to get on this. I have a whole neighborhood I could positively prank.

  • check out "improv everywhere" (a youtube channel) for some AWESOME positive prank experiments. ALL their videos are basically videos of flash mobs with a good purpose

  • I'm doing this for National Alaska Day, except I'll be putting M&M fun sized bags into the slots of random lockers at my school.

  • "It's illegal to put stuff in mail boxes. in the US." You know what this means?? This makes the USPS a crimal opertation. 80

  • That is an amazing idea.

  • Instead of egging someone's house by throwing eggs, you give them easter eggs/Cadbury Creme Eggs. And, if you want, you can egg people themselves by throwing eggs at them and seeing how many they can catch.

  • Watching this, I was thinking about how it would make my day if I was at work and someone handed me a bag of Tootsie Pops, and I don't even like those that much. I'd give most of them away, and that would make other people happy, which is cool by me. And then I thought about how it would be one of those really odd, cool things if I walked by an empty, barren space, where Tootsie Pops were just sticking out of the ground.

  • That is not a positive variation of teepeeing someones yard, its is a variation of forking their yard (when you stick hundreds of plastic forks in their yard and all they can do is pull them up).

  • This totally explains all the tootsie pops stuck in the ground on campus. Indiana University Nerdfighters, where are you guys?

  • Knock down all the mailboxes on a block and then buy everybody a nicer one.

  • @DaDewd vandalism with a GOOD (but expensive) purpose- interesting idea!!!!!

  • 1:37 and pause....that is all

  • how did you got hurt? looks painfull.

  • The consequences will never be the same.

Wonder how many people get the reference.

  • My four-year-old grandson trick-or-treated a house this Halloween and the resident didn't have any candy, so he gave her a KitKat (her favorite). He NFTBA! :D

  • I sneaked into my friends house and messed his entire room up,with mentos.

  • do u get arrested for 1:14

  • "decrease world suck" best quote ever

  • @jairoller4life It's not really one specific quote. Hank and John Green (the people in this channel, John's the one in the video.) at some point in 2007 mentioned the decreasing of worldsuck, and since then it has become a common phrase, as well as a common goal, for the Green Brothers as well as most, if not all of the Nerdfighters. Nerdfighters are people who instead of being made of bones and skin and tissue, are made entirely out of awesome. If you want to become a Nerdfighter, you are one.

  • @jairoller4life I want to thumb your comment but there's 69 likes.

  • @jairoller4life Actually, it is "Increase Nerd Fighters"

  • I'm an RA (Resident Assistant) at my university and we have to do an activity or service project with the people on my floor every month. This month for Halloween I used the TP idea. I wrote a note and taped suckers to their wall. I also included a bowl of red suckers placed on the drinking fountain and labeled it the "blood bath". They loved it! +1,000,000 for Nerdfighteria! :)

  • me and my buddy are going trick or treating tonight and we're going to ring on people's doors, and if they don't answer we will 'trick' people into thinking that we've posted something nasty through the door when actually, we've posted chocolates and a cute note XD

  • so... pranking for those of chaotic good alignment?

  • I hope you dont mind that when I go TP'ing I'm going to Ctrl C + Ctrl V your note and replace your name with mine. ^_^

  • I really really want him to visit the Tootsie pop garden and see how the ant colony is thriving.

  • i just got an idea from dan brown's new video! :D go to a highly populated place with a FREE HUGS sign, and instead of being a pick-pocket {which he wasn't/isn't} leave a dollar or something in their pocket! :D

  • "These are for you. They're a gift. It's just Tootsie Pops. And can I have a six-inch on wheat?" I love you, John.

  • @spatchjr haha I actually did that in a park near where I used to live. I put "smile, you're beautiful" in some random places other than the floor, like places people would never have thought to see that written there.

  • Awesome!!!!! I want to do thissssss!

  • I know you probably won't see this...but thanks Jon. I have implemented this in the residence halls I work in. With the tragedies all around us it is good to be able to point out the positives in order to lower the level of world suck! Thank you so much for the great idea, it has been a huge success, and I think some students are really starting to get it. Hoping even this little bit can help to prevent tragedies like what happened at Rutgers. Thanks again!!

  • These guys are travelling across Canada in the winter trying to do nice things

    travelkindness . ca

    DFTBA

  • I have a positive pranking story! My friend and I once printed and cut out 40 phrases, some of them quotes, that encouraged tolerance, especailly toward gays and lesbians, We then hid them all over our little city, in books, bike locks, videos at the video store, etc. We would have done more but we were only two people. : ) It was fun.

  • What /is/ a Tootsie Pop?

  • @lilyloonyluna A tootsie pop is a lollipop with some chocolate taffy stuff in the middle 8D

Cheery is my favorite flavor, in case you were wondering. (you probably weren't wondering, though :D )

  • @silverarrows13 I was... :)

  • ME AND MY FRIENDS ARE DOING THIS ON SATURDAY! :D YAY! GO VLOGBROTHERES! :D

  • Holy shit you're awesome. XD

  • I know that Target! That's the Nora target...MY target gahhh...it really freaks me out when you go places I know...please stop doing that.

  • Our neighborhood does some positive pranking around Halloween. Our neighbors ding dong ditch, but they leave a little bag of candy and a note from 'a ghost' to take that candy and fill it with something else and give it to another neighbor. It's cute and the kid get really excited.

  • you should TP the island again, but put the tootsie pops in the shape of the word Nerdfighter =]

  • My apartment mates and I just Ding Dong ditched a house of boys on campus and they were SO IMPRESSED. They've sworn to get positive prank revenge on us soon. We think this could go on all year. I think you boys inspired a new school tradition! :)

  • You could 'E.G.G' people. . . Eagerly Give Gifts! DFTBA!

  • shaving cream take shaving cream and other stuff to a nursing home and give people facials and beauty treatments

  • My mom and I frequently do Drive-By Fruitings, which is where we leave fruit on people's cars in parking lots. It's quite fun

  • I've always been a positive pranker. For example just the other day I saw a bowl of cooking apples outside someone's gate and a sign saying 'please take some apples.'

I wrote a note saying 'Hi there, I don't want to take your apples but I just would like to let you know I'm thankful for the option! So thank you. If I were in need of apples I would be very grateful to you right now. Have a great day.'

  • I was informed (while leaving rent for my landlord in an envelope in their mailbox) that you must have a stamp on anything you put in a mailbox, even if it isn't going through the post office...So...next time you go tping...make sure to buy stamps too!

  • John, as the lawyer of a victim of your inhumane shenanigans it is my misfortune to inform you that you dun goof'd by leaving your signature on the letters left with your still being tested for what is potentially drugs.

the internet police have been informed and your anonymity revoked by methods of back tracing.

  • LITTERER!

  • I am in tears of laughter right now, you just made my day :)

  • My friends and I always love shouting encouraging or complimentary things out of our car windows. For example, when we see somebody jogging we say, "keep up the good work" or "you go girl you burn off that chocolate bar from yesterday" or when we see a guy wearing a nice shirt we say, "orange is so your color" or "looking good in the hood" ha one of my favorite things to do

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA, watching you run with panic made my day.

  • A group of us in Calgary had a "Sneak a Zucchini on Your Neighbors Porch" day. It was fantastic

  • you guys are amazing how have i not found you before today!?

  • @enyfink Welcome to Nerdfightaria!!

  • Some of my friends and I TP'd our high school's ~tree area by the parking lots with DumDums a couple years ago. No one thought it was cool; they were just like 'lamest senior prank ever'. Obviously all of them forgot to be awesome ):

  • "The consequences will never be the same" - I didn't notice this in here the first time around . . . SOMEONE CALL THE CYBER POLICE ON ME. I DUN GOOFED.

  • I WAS GOING TO SUSCRIBE BUT IT SAID THAT I WAS ALREADY SUSCRIBED

  • I'm going out tomorrow and putting compliments on random pages of books.

  • its so wierd watching a vlog in a parkinglot, at a target, that i shop at!

  • i just finished Looking for Alaska.. i was probly the best book i have read in a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time..... i havnt read the rest of your books yet but Hoolywood is filled with jackasses...just saying :)

  • this reminds me of ghosting. which is where you leave candy and a note in different peoples houses. and then they do the same. until every house in the neighborhood and outside of the neighborhood has a ghost on their door symbolizing they have been ghosted.

  • @wotchersarah Awesome! We should start a club!

  • googly eye your city
