Timmy has more choices, prob a better dist; luther still comes in clearer and suprisingly bassier! Glad I just ordered my LD, but Timmy is def up there on the list!
@stilt37 May I quote you, Mr Braindead? "guitar. boobs "... Get the nipples out of your eyes and learn to read schematics ;-)
The Luther is surely a very close TS clone, maybe with small mods. The timmy is different, of course, but based on a very similar circuit design. I like both pedals, I built clones of the original TS808 and the Timmy. I prefer the Timmy, because it´s a bit more versatile.
@Linsenpuppe I wasn't remarking on the specs of the two pedals. I was commenting on your negativity. There is only so much any person or manufacturer can do to build upon the original overdrive effect.
I'm braindead because I love guitar and boobs? okay. lol The timmy is a great od, I personally prefer the Tim for the more pronounced low end. To each his own.
Well...I have played the Timmy, and I own a Luther. Both are great, but I dig the smoother vibe of the Luther. Just my opinion though. Both pedals would have a place on any board.
*like always, it depends on what other gear you're using, how all of your gear complements/works against each other, what sound you're looking for, how it feels, and what you're willing to pay.
wow, i think i might actually prefer the luther

Timmy's great, but I prefer the Luther. Doesn't clip as strongly on the milder settings

is it just me or does the Timmy sound stronger, more punch, or presence or something throughout this whole demonstration?

They both sound great. That's high praise for the Luther Drive as I consider the Tim/Timmy the best OD pedals on the market.

Luther is bit more sweeter(or smoother) then the slightly harsher timmy.

For my set up I would prefer the luther

TIMMY - more gain, treble has more transparency
LUTHER DRIVE - sounds bassier on chords, mids sound more transparent

woo, I just requested this Luther vs Tim on the new stack vid,,,,GMD already did it !!!
You rule Dr. Cool !!! The Luther is basic but really has major cow bell !!!
It is rumoured that anyone using the curly white cable of magic with the sad ring of destiny, wearing the boots of cooldom becomes the mythical GMD !
Crank it TEL man, you are the best !!!

Great videos. From this I prefer the Luther Drive, the Timmy sounds a bit fizzy to me in comparison.

It's hard to judge which is better without messing with the knobs myself, but from this vid, I think I prefer your Luther GMD. Good work!

Great shootout. My question is non-related, though. Who plays the song that is used in the end?

Luther isn't as gainy but its hard to get over how much warmer it is. Luther > Timmy

the timmy has more gain and the luther is warmer

i used a timmy with a luther for a while... its not a "one or the other" shoot out that should have been done.
can you do a stacking shoot out?
