Hello, you play this song beautifully. I'm trying to learn it. Would you consider posting a quick lesson. I just can't pick up the picking pattern. Even just the first couple measures would be a huge help. Either way, rock on.
Macyn- I just discovered you while looking for (hopefully) Leo playing "The Fisherman". All I have to say is WOW! Impressive playing! I've been jumping around listening to some of your 34 (so far) postings. You are a delight.
I just started taking finger style guitar classes at UWM, it's quite a change from picks. I like your version, it's very similar to how Josh plays it.
Macyn - I love your playing...and you seem so relaxed and playful during all of it. You have a real gift. I hope it brings you happiness and pleasure all of your life. Thank you.
I have a few questions and a request. First, do you know Kottke's song Junebug? He plays it on the twelve-string guitar and I was also wondering do you know whether or not he had to raise the action to play slide on that? My request is for you to play the aforementioned Junebug on the twelve-string if you have one.
Higher action isn't as important when using a slide on a twelve-string because it has more string tension to support the slide. I use a heavy slide (cut from a plumbing fixture) on a six-string with normal action. You just have to be a little more light-handed to avoid rapping the frets. I don't have a twelve-string. If (or when) I get one, I'll try to learn Junebug and post it.
Does that book give tab...I play this now by just figuring it out but always had trouble with that first part. Do you slow it down? How to master this?
very nice, i tried it also on my side, because with this song 35 years ago began my interest for leo kottke, keep on picking and best wishes from germany
Hi Macyn, Glad to see you post again! Other new songs are great too. Long time Leo fan myself and it's great to see young people playing his songs. You are progressing quite nicely and I'm sure you have proud parents. Remain true to yourself and keep that sweet smile. God bless.
Wonderful! I first heard this around 1970 on Leo's "My Feet are Smiling" LP and I still can't play it!
You go girl! :]

This video was recorded acoustically (unplugged), although the guitar is equipped with a Fishman Ellipse Blend pick-up.

That book does provide the tab. Try playing the first part slow for a while until it starts to feel comfortable. Then try speeding it up.

Maybe Running from Home..
you are cute

I don't mean to sound like a stereotypical guy, but I am just SO surprised to see a woman playing Kottke! And doing it SO well!
You're almost there. Just keep practicing to the metronome, and you'll get to the speed that was on the "6 & 12 string guitar" album.
PS:
Another "guy thing to say", but you're very cute...You don't have a facebook do you? :)
