haha yeah i think it may have come just a tad late...
thanks v much 4 the core music lesson though.although i dont lisetn 2 a lot of metal/hardcore/deathcore etc its all very interesting.i know a lot of people will only stick 2 the genres they listen 2 but u can only benefit gaining knowledge in other areas of music.
& yeah ive heard many a person say no music is new but each time a genre evolves & gets re worked its creating something new.nice 2 speak with someone on the same frequency.
Too right, in fact, I'm sure it favours the masses to have no talent.
Let me explain; why is it catchy? Because it's so simple and braindead. Why is it simple? Because if they wrote anything more complicated they would mess up on stage.
Catchiness has no bearing on the quality of the music anyway, only the passion and emotions put into a song make it any good.
And don't tell me it has any of that, just listen to the lyrics. Meaningless.
your a bunch on cocks. Ive met these guys just as they were getting signed in newquay in july 07. they are the nicest guys ever, had loads of time for me. your just a bunch of jelous pricks who probably have no band or even more likely cant even playing an instrument!!
dude, whethere those guys are jealous or not, and whether the tings tings are nice people and have lots of time, it still doesnt change the fact theyre pretty talentless.its just catchy pop. tomys' my first song writter - springs to mind. seriously, predujice aside, theyre very below average/medioca. and im not being nasty. just honest. if you think they have real talent, then im afraid my friend, there is no help for you or even any point in trying to reason. peace.
To - Tomdixn - If I don't play any instruments, what do you think my username is all about? karashi 'bass', I play bass, I'll send you a picture of my axe if you like?
In fact, I've had a 6 string electric and a drum kit too, I sold them due to my 'in-efficiency'. But I've played all 3 in various bands, one band was a bit like this, going down the 'please the masses' road, and I got out. I was playing drums in that band.
I have to disagree for the most part there. Its much easier to write 5 mins of meaningfull lyrics with a complex arrangement than 3 mins of music that people are going to want to listen to over and over again. Music that gets into your head. Music that comes on in the club and everyone responds in unison to the positive.
I'm going to have to disagree again, I've tried both ways. I've written stuff myself that's catchier than this AND less diluted, why don't I release it and become famous, rich? Because I don't like it, I don't like what I wrote.
I've tried writing complex music, I've tried writing clever breakdowns in difficult time-signatures. It's impossible, you can't write it, you have to jam with like-minded skilled instrument players and it takes days or weeks to get something down, but it sounds good!
im with u on this karashibass.just last night my girlfriend&i were talking about song writting.2write a meaningless catchy song really isnt a tricky task.2sit there&write something with lyrics that really take some understanding&complex time signatures is really something else!something that can change a persons perspective,eg neutral milk hotel.its like reading the sun or the guardian,it just depends how serious&involved u are in the news.i salute you4keepig your catchy songs under the bed :)
I actually wrote those songs as assignments in my first year of music GCSE, like 4-5 years ago, at the tender age of 14.
That subject bored the hell out of me, so I used to go off and play metal with the other lads and ended up nearly failing the course!
As far as being 'nice people' goes, I'm sure they are, not just because they're getting paid to be nice. I think you'll find that a lot of lower-pay metalcore/death metal/hardcore musicians are even nicer and more intelligent...
I'm sure they are indeed. My girlfriend works with quite a few guys that are in various metal bands and they're all very nice and inteligent people. I dont have a deep understanding of metal, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesnt some of the structure derive from classical music? Therefore requiring just a tad more intelect than "one two, i saw you, three four i'll sing something catchy for sure!"
Well, different genres of metal have different derivatives.
I'm particularly interested in deathcore and hardcore/metalcore (I know, core core core... Sounds stupid doesn't it?), which provides a looser structure with more flow.
I've got to say, my favourite band, Dillinger Escape Plan (metalcore), draws a lot of influence from Jazz, hence the time signatures, and a little from Blues.
Whereas a hardcore, bands such as Poison The Well, are actually a mixture of metal(core) and punk, hence the looser structure.
If you look at other forms of metal, Death, Thrash, Black etc, that's where you'll likely find a much tighter structure, derived from fairly recent orchestral music styles. I say recent as it's not until later pieces that darker music is written.
However, some people say that in this way, all music is a copy of something older, and that nothing 'new' is ever written. Be wary of these people, I call them 'elitists'.
"Why didn't you release it and become rich and famous?" Because it takes a lot of work and you are content to think you are "better" than pop. I don't buy your lame intellectual excuses. The point of catchy pop is that "everyone" likes it. However, only some hard working people can sell it, ie Ting Tings!!!
As you wish mate, trick is, all music needs to be sold on some level so it's no great feat.
I can see you're insinuating that I personally would not be able to 'sell' the pop, and you're right, because I just wouldn't be enjoying it.
Half the performance is remembering to enjoy yourself, and yes fyi I am speaking from experience. Thankfully I've never been in a position where I've had to enjoy playing pop music live. I'd have failed miserably.

I completely disagree. While I usually prefer polar artists, such as "The Strokes," "Belle & Sebastian," "Simon & Garfunkel..." I do, in fact, enjoy this.
A song does not need to be emotional or complex in order to be enjoyable, and, in my mind, music is made to bring pleasure. If this song makes people happy then it is doing it's job. It is ignorant and elitiest to say that a song is braindead simply because it is simple.
No music is "real music." Music is art: undefinable.
@whiterosesinmyeyes your comment and your NMH based screen name are very earnest and sensible but also typify the sesame-street utopian attitude that makes the new gen of indie feel like cheesy sunday school - lose the obvious oversimple homily son!
The Tings rock. Nuff said!!!

Great song. Best thing i've heard in ages.
Dead catchy and Katy has a great voice.

Musical talent, as in how well the instruments are played, isn't important
Whats important is writing good tunes and passion
They may not be super skilled at playing instruments but they have great tunes and energy

Pah to you!!
If a song is catchy with a good tune - surely it has the right to be popular??
The Ting Tings have talent, i dont care if you dont like their music.

it seems that you dont need any talent to be in a hyped up band these days

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Anyway, 'Youtube comments' really isn't the place for a full blown study on the history of 'core' related music and it's derivatives.
I fear this warning may have come too late!

I do agree, Music is an art form. I also humbly apologise for slagging this off as 'not real music', it is music on some level.
I actually just posted a comment here and it disappeared, which kind of gets on my nuts. :/
Perhaps it is elitist to slander music like this with the tag 'braindead', but, I will not consider it as anything else.
On the plus side, it IS live... >:D
