@NumbskuIl you need to choose in bios setup so the first thing bios will do is boot from you CD drive ..if u r lazy to change it then just press F10 F11 or F12 on bios for chooseing what device you want to boot first
@TheShufflingBoy when i selected the BIOS setup i noticed the boot sequence ( is that where you should go) i see you can change the order so should the order be? cd/dvd drive then the internal hdd? and then what?
This helped me out tremendously .. I upgraded an older pc to windows 7, and the video card couldn't handle it. The resolution was all messed up.. I tried to reinstall xp, and it said I couldn't cause the current version was newer.. Thanks a trillion
help me please i dont have any cd i downloaded windows 7 from internet and it was good for a vile until it started to ask for genuine windows and now i have troubble with my pc can wun it normaly only in safe mode so i need help to return it to xp.
Every time I try to boot up from the disk, I end up to the point where it says, "Press enter to set up Windows XP" but when I do, I get the blue screen of death. Help?
@Supaluigi62 you need to go into bios b4 you try install, make sure your hdd config is set to IDE not SATA, or I believe depends of what SP you can have it on AHCI
Outstanding tutorial, this was the only helpful one I found which helped me to exactly what it is meant to...install XP over shitty 7. Thanks very much for taking the time to put this together!
a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
if this is the first time youve seen this stop screen restart you compute. remove any newly installed harddrives or harddrive controllers. check your hrddrive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.tun chkdsk /f to check for hard drive corrouption and then restartyour computer
@MrAshmed12 once again go to bios and set your hdd config to IDE not SATA, depends on what service pack you have you can do AHCI. Like my crosshair IV formula board can set certain SATA ports to raid while i can have IDE, AHCI on the remaining or vice versa just so i can specifically like it states in my manual for that purpose is to install legacy OS's
@MONYARM1 That really was a simple setup of Win XP! No downgrading involved! I did that all the time and that just gave me blue error screen! My HDD is healthy my VGA and Memory as well! Is there anymore ways you could help me? Thank you!

Hello , nice tutorial..I will instal Win xp for 2hours..But can i ask you?How do you do that mouse..When you click it will do some Red circle.. Thx.. ;)
The title is wrong, it should be "How to install XP" it is clearly not downgrading. When u are installing XP from a blank harddisk, can u call it as "Upgrading" ?
Sorry for the tons of comments but... Why does the installer assume that my C drive is corrupted? I also get a different boot screen, it asks me to convert my partition to NTFS or just go on without changes... I tried BOTH options and it says that setup cannot go on because my C drive is corrupted. That's impossible because I'm currently typing this comment...
this is not downgrading, this is formatting the hard drive so every bit of data is deleted and installing a fresh copy of XP, downgrading is entirely different.
Part 2/2: If your BIOS does not have the option to change SATA operations mode, and after trying to find the correct SATA drivers has failed on your end, you can still do something about the situation rather than being forced to keep on using Vista Crap or Windows Slowpoke 7. You can try Linux, give Ubuntu a try (ubuntu . com) and see, first using the "Live CD/DVD" mode (running linux before a real install) to test out Video/Audio/Wifi/Ethernet functionality, then if all well install for real.
For those users complaining that they either get a Blue Screen of Death or the "No Hard Drive found" error during XP setup, do the following: 1) go to manufacturer's website and see if they have the SATA drivers for your model, if not, go to driverpacks . net and download XP drivers for "Mass Storage Controllers" and slip stream them all and try again. If that fails, then check to see if you can disable SATA operations on your BIOS (eg. enabling IDE or Compatibility or PATA mode/emulation, etc)
Ever since the problems with Windows Vista and how Microsoft changed Vista's name to Windows 7 later on to dump the name of Vista due to bad publicity, I have decided to keep on using Windows XP, while I dual boot to Linux too (Ubuntu . com) as my current phase plan since for me, Linux sounds like a better upgrade, on Linux you can forget about viruses, trojans, etc since its open source, any vulnerabilities founds are patched real quick by the Open Source Developing Community worldwide.
when i do this, instead of getting a "welcome to setup" screen i get an error saying "windows needed to shut down your computer to prevent damage." i don't know what to do and i tried everything to downgrade to XP. please help! :(
@cshabtai27 That means that your Windows XP CD Setup program was unable to find the SATA drivers for your SATA controller which is attatched to your local hard drive. You will need to search for the correct SATA drivers for XP and slip stream them to your XP CD and burn a new CD. Good Pointer: go to driverpacks . net and download the Mass Storage Controller drivers for XP, slipstream all to your XP CD, burn a new XP CD, retry setup and most likely you will succeed this time.
when i do this, instead of getting a "welcome to setup" screen i get an error saying "windows needed to shut down your computer to prevent damage." i don't know what to do and i tried everything to downgrade to XP. please help! :(
Hey very nice tutorial, it's like self-explanatory :D, I just installed Windows 7 Professional, but all the games I had on XP I can't play them now :( that's my reason for downgrading it to XP, but I don't have the XP disc, where I can get it or download it? I'll burn it into a DVD/CD and then use it...

The title is wrong, it should be "How to install XP" it is clearly not downgrading. When u are installing XP from a blank harddisk, can u call it as "Upgrading" ?

@narf03
At the beginning you can see the VM was running Vista.

@PIKACHU49386

I also have a question, can I install using a USB device? I don't have a disc drive on my netbook...
PIKACHU49386 1 year ago
I'm downgrading because XP is older and more compatible than Windows 7, and it will also help performance because 7 requires higher specs.
I'm also on a netbook and I've been an XP user for a LONG time and I personally would prefer it!

after that i get to windows setup is starting on that gray bar i get the blue screen of death
Theunknownavenger100 1 year ago
this is not downgrading, this is formatting the hard drive so every bit of data is deleted and installing a fresh copy of XP, downgrading is entirely different.

@yafilmDOTcom I agree, If it doesn't work, use Ubuntu, it's a linux distro, and it is very reliable.

cshabtai27 1 year ago
@cshabtai27 That means that your Windows XP CD Setup program was unable to find the SATA drivers for your SATA controller which is attatched to your local hard drive. You will need to search for the correct SATA drivers for XP and slip stream them to your XP CD and burn a new CD. Good Pointer: go to driverpacks . net and download the Mass Storage Controller drivers for XP, slipstream all to your XP CD, burn a new XP CD, retry setup and most likely you will succeed this time.

What is the difference between installing and upgrading?
I have win7 and I want to make it to Win XP, is that downgrading or installing?
Thank you very much.
