Of coz, there is possibilities that Cerana can be used for commercial production. But this take a lot of time & need resources for R&D. So far, local institutions had not done enough on this part.
Cerana has not benefitted from the selective breeding improvements mellifera has. But there is no reason why selective breeding of Cerana won't produce commercially viable bees. After all it would be better in the longrun for local wildlife if Cerana were used instead of Mellifera.

Cerana is much more aggresive, and lower in productivity. Nobody able to rear Dorsata so far, so they remain to live on trees
