@mannooshy You'll need a remote that can take interval photos. You can find them quite cheap unoriginal models on Ebay, I just got one from there myself, so I'm gonna start trying this out :)
You use any kind of noise reduction? I mean you could use Long exposure noise reduction and high ISO speed noise reduction. Since you have a high ISO speed and a long exposure.
Very cool, I'm looking at a Nikon with an intervalometer to do some videos like this, though our night sky isn't as clear as yours. Are you using the battery or are you using Nikon's external power adapter?
@Harles99 Thank you for the reply. I love this video but I read some really bad reviews about the Satechi TR - M and I was just wondering if you would recommend it or not or it there's anything you could tell me. Thanks, Allan.
@AllanGeeRusky I would recommend it, I haven't had any problems with it. It might not have the same build quality as Nikon or Canons remotes but it wont brake unless you really abuse it. Battery life is excellent too. I accidentally left it on for three weeks straight and it was still on counting down lol.
@DefKast I use quicktime pro to put all the images together into a time lapse sequence, then i import that into final cut pro. do a google search for Timescapes fourm, theres plenty of info there for all types of editing software.
Is it possible to see the milky way galaxy from Nothern Florida? Please reply, thanks. AMAZING video by the way. Words can't explain the beauty of this.
@Harles99 I know you have been asked this question a million times and I would just like to apologize ahead of time but which remote did you use for this time lapse?
how do you decide on the delay between pix and how long for each photo's shutter speed? If there are city lights where I live, can I bump my ISO lower? Nikon for the win
Excellent work there Harles99. And thanks for including the photo data. Can't wait to see your work after you start shooting RAW. I shoot RAW, myself. But nothing like this yet.
That's profoundly prejudiced of you to judge people who live in cities like that. In big cities there are people of all sorts, those who believe and those who don't. You are so wrong to judge people like that.
Hi! I'm about to try time lapse on my d90, I live in Japan and don't know what kind of intervalometer to buy. Can you please give some advice? And what format is better, jpeg or raw? And can a 16GB SD can handle it? Thanks and godbless.
RAW vs JPG. Look at this way, JPG is comparable to having a 5x7 print in your photo album. RAW is comparable to having the negative that the print was processed from. There's a lot more information in a RAW image, which means there's a lot more you can do with that photo. If you absolutely do not wish to spend time processing photos on a computer, then JPG is for you. With JPG the camera does all the processing for you. With RAW, its like developing your own film yourself.
Hi i have a Nikon d 90 with a 18 mm f/3.5 I have to shot for 25 sec? and then leave the sensor resting for 1 min? can you give me the software to control the camera?
Beautiful, simply beautiful. I've been attempting to do this in 2 remote areas now in the Philippines but for a high iso the foreground stands out too much and I could never get a clear shot of the milky way.. it's just too dark or too much light pollution :( (I wonder if it's even visible here in Ph) How did you keep the trees dark in your shots?
@1c0a0ro0n0t0eporscp1 i'm sure this difference between what is semi pro and expert is smaller these days. d7000 is all we want. visit... freedslr . co m remove spaces and take a chance to bring home completely new Nikon D7000
How come that at 25 sec exposures you don't get star trails? Is it because of the wide lens you use? As far as I know star trails appear at around 15 sec.
Awsome and inspiring work my friend. thank you. I am new to the MD90 and SLR phography in general. I am trying to figure out how to do this. I have a tripod now but suppose I will need a remote? Thanks.
Watching this you really get a sense of just how much our planet is moving through space. I've never seen the milky way with my own eyes because of light pollution. I think if people saw this with their own eyes they'd have much more respect for our planet and the cosmos.
Very nice video, I'm really jealous of the dark sky sight you are fortunate to have. Check out my attempt in time lapse. Relatively same settings as you have but as good as it will ever get in the polluted city of Cincinnati... Keep the videos coming!
nice time lapse ! just a quick question , i have a nikon D 90 , but it doesn't take an interval time shots , so did you use something externally ?

How do you do the time lapse at night? If it's dark, the camera won't focus and then it won't let you take the photograph.
AllanGeeRusky 10 months ago
@AllanGeeRusky The camera was set in manual mode. I also set my lens to manual focus and focus to infinity, this will allow you to shoot at night.
