@deniskaru No it was all done manually - I have had filming experience for many years but I think what made it really easy to do the focus was using a bigger monitor; I had a 10" LCD monitor mounted on top of the camera which gave me a big enough image to see what i was doing very clearly.
hello,nice video!!i'm gonna buy 550d with 50mm 1.8 lens!!could you suggest me a second lens with good image quality,a little zoom and good for videos between 250-400 euros?i like canon 10-22mm and 17-40mm but they are so expensive!!sigma has good lenses??how about 10-22mm?
your second lens really depends on how you wanna use it - generally a zoom lens would be ideal so it can cover pretty much everything (e.g. 70-200) - but seems you are more interested in wide angle lenses - then i suggest you look into tamron lenses - sigma is ok too - i think tamron has better wide lenses - quality wise they are not that much different from canon, it's just harder to sell them
since you are planning to a buy a 50mm lens - 28-75 seems more logical since it will cover a wider range - you need to see if you'll be happy with a medium wide look or you wanna have the widest look possible.
tnx - Canon ef 50mm f1.8 mk2 is one of the cheapest prime lenses in the market and being f1.8 obviously does a way better job than the kit lens (f3.5) in low light. Considering the price (arround £100) i think it's really great especially for video. (the only downside is 50mm becomes 80mm on a crop sensor so the framing of the close objects could be a bit limited )
Did you use follow focus? If not, how long did it take you to learn to change focus manually so smoothly and precisly?

Nice vid. How was working with the 50mm? I only have the kit lens and it doesn't do well in low light

What I really loved about this was the fade outs and the smooth panning...did you use the ole rubber band trick? great stuff !!!
