I always like Fischer the Chess Player. But Fischer the human being leaves a lot to be desired. His political judgement was appalling. Ferdinand & Imelda Marcos. FFS Bobby what were you thinking consorting with those scumbags?
@melissacarterTS you are entitled to your opinion as i am ,oh , and by the way the reality i live and enjoy is very real , i am not confussed about myself or the world or the people i hold in the highest esteem, thankyou
ah, yes, the dear monarch and his stately bride, resplendant in the trappings of their office, high atop the writhing heap of wretched, anguished poverty, issue of their rank despotism.
Yes, I believe also he was the greatest Chessplayer of all time. People just didn't understand him. No one is of fault and I don't blame him a bit for what he did at times. I hope you are in a better place now Bobby. I will always miss you.
Marcos is the best...during his time International Events are held in Philippines (eg Thrilla in Manila, Chess Olympiad, Ms. Universe Pageant, etc.)...Filipinos then are viewed as respectable citizens...Marcos is a man with a VISION...
Remember Einsteins words. GREAT MINDS HAVE ALWAYS ENCOUNTERED OPPOSITION/RESISTANCE FROM MEDIOCRE ONES!!, i think those that defame or ridicule this guy need to remember this, i for one will defend him and his honour as best i can , r.i.p Bobby i hope you are happy now where ever you are
i have watched this over and over and over , i am just so sad people couldnt understand this guy , i remember him when i was a kid in 1972, he was outspoken yes a fighter yes a genius yes maybe confussed about the world , and to be honest who isnt, i think people dissapointed him, and who among us hasnt felt that. I am sorry how people treated you Bobby, i really am ,take care where you are now my lost friend, i hope its better where you are now . R.I.P you will always be superiour :(
Bobby was a true maverick. ... and he will always remain an enigma on certain levels. in some ways it seems to come down to this: he could never quite conqueor his own fears, ... or his considerably suppressed ego. he also, (rightly or wrongly) was convinced "the Jews, the KGB, and the American Government was out to "GET' him." ! his was a case of genius and neurosis out of control.
Beautiful pictures. This is the way I like to see Bobby Fischer. I can't believe these pictures ended up in a flea market! It's like noone cares about a great chess player of the past. Thank god these pics were saved for all of us to enjoy. The music along with the pics make this video both sad and beautiful. I didn't know Bobby had a daughter with a filipina. I'm going to have to look that up now. Thx for the pics and info.
Fischer has a filipina daughter and now fighting for her fathers fortune at the icelandic court, atty sammy estimo and grandmaster torre impedes Bobby Fischer to become a Filipino Citizen considering that it was in the Philippines where his American Passport was stripped..Fischer wants to go to manila through Japan to become a Filipino and live with his Family...but unfortunately he was jailed in japan..
Gosh! I think this is the first time I've seen Bobby Fischer dating from his reign as world champion, excluding of course pictures taken in 1972, immediately after he won the title.
Great. Youtube is amazing. I couldn´t stop crying thinking about Fischer and my Phillipine girlfriend. Two persons I respect. I am not sure of the reputation of Marcos though. Later on, of course, Fischer was a big fan of Saddam Hussein.
am a big fan of Saddam 2. You have to be carefull with the western media, i have lived in the middle east for 11 years, and so far 13 years in Europe, so am pretty balanced and i have seen both sides of the story. miss bobby fischer
The Philippine people are keen on their chess XD Good on em. If you had never heard of him, looking at these you wouldn't guess how interesting his life actually was. This is great, thanks for posting.
Thanks for sharing these. They're very poignant in that 1973 everyone thought the rest of the decade would be the era of Bobby Fischer. He was a chess god by this time. Looking at these pics now it's sad that his reign was so short and that there would be troubling times ahead.
Thanks for identifying Florencio Campomanes. I was wondering who the person was that seen with Bobby in many of the pics. It appears he was the personal host for Bobby during his stay. I do not know who the other people are, other than Ferdinand and Imelda. If anyone can identify them, It would be nice to know. Thanks.
I have had these albums for about 8 years now. I thought it would be nice to post them, now that there is Youtube, to show some pics of him that I believe have never been seen publicly, since these were pictures personally given from the Marcos family to Bobby. I thought it was nice to see some pictures of him apart from playing chess.
It was very nice to see these pictures and I wanted to thank you for posting them. Discovering these in a flea market must have been the most amazing feeling.
@nirocal That means that you are one of those Jew rat bastards who stole his stuff! He went on the radio several times demanding it all back! Why didn't you at least contact him about all the stolen stuff you bought?!
It was actually kinda sad to a man of his stature have some of his lifelong collection just sitting in boxes in a swap meet. There were others items there, including manuals, a few chess sets and chess timers, etc. I didn't get them at the time because I couldn't prove provenance that they belonged to Bobby , but in retrospect I wish I had gotten them anyway.
KalleFlax: I think Kasparov is now the strongest player of all time. But Fischer didn't have the Russian chess machine behind him - he did it all on his own - which is probably the greatest achievement of any sportsman in the history of any sport. Bobby was awesome, but many believe that Kasparov is the strongest player in the history of the game. But then again if Capablanca or even Paul Morphy were both around now they may have proved to be even stronger than both Fischer and Kasparov.
Who knows, Perhaps Alekhine today would prove to the greatest. What's great about this video is that we see Bobby happy! After that's said and done, Bobby was a flawed genius, like George Best, and in snooker, Ronnie O Sullivan. All three, amazing sportsmen who have elevated their sport to a level that just leaves you breathless with awe and wonder.
Kalleflax. We will never know. Like in any sport It's impossible to tell who would have won from different era's - with the exception of Usian Bolt in athletics of course - but remember Fischer regarded Morphy the most accurate player that ever lived. Perhaps Morphy would have beaten both Kasparov and Fischer? And the same applies to Capablanca and his great talent? But there is no doubt that Fischer was a terrific player.
