  • @Audinos I heard that Tillamook is getting some sirens. Would those be the Whelens from Umatilla? Our Civil Air Patrol squadron just brought a few speakers to Eugene to be installed on a Cessna 172 or 182 as part of the new warning system for the coast. Also, have you heard anything about the 10V in Neskowin that they just took down a few months ago?

  • @TheLegoboy1997 The last time I was in Neskowin, the 10V and a Model 2 were still there. As far as I know, there were no sirens anywhere in or around the city of Tillamook. Some of the small towns on the ocean had them: a Model 5 in Netarts, a Model 5 and a Model 2 in Pacific City, and a Sentry 3V8H in Oceanside. I don't know where the Umatilla sirens went, but the Tillamook valley is very prone to flooding and tsunamis.

  • those are thunderbolts!!!!!!! awesome!!!!when i was in nebraska i grew up on those things!!!!! then of course most got replaced by federal 2001s... i am in portland now and i cannot really believe what i am looking at...

  • @N617A Portland removed their siren system in the early 1960's when Oregon disbanded Civil Defense. It was one of the first states to do so. Portland originally had a network of Buell air horns from the 1930's, which were updated with dual-tone Decot and Chrysler sirens in the 1950's. The only siren I've seen left in the Metro area is an old fire station in West Linn that has a single-head Sterling on the roof.

  • @Audinos Other sirens in the Portland area that were removed in the last decade were a stainless steel Model 5 at the old Gresham fire station, and a Model 5 with a vertically-mounted Denver Duplex siren at the old city hall in Hillsboro. Near Hillsboro, there is still a functioning Model 5 used by the fire department in Cornelius and a Sentry 10V in Dundee. Many of the small towns south of Portland still have them.

  • @N617A Last month, Umatilla County's entire network of over fifty Whelen sirens was removed and sent to the Oregon coast for tsunami warning use, and in Columbia County there were numerous Thunderbolts, STH-10's, Model 5's, and at least one Allertor in the area of the old Trojan nuclear power plant. Most of those were sold, but there may still be a few forest-green Thunderbolts hiding in the trees near fire stations.

  • That good Hartford,Connecticut .Have siren sound

  • how far away is this from portland

  • @HomeSkillet489 About 300 road miles.

  • Nice! I had no idea that there were Thunderbolts in Oregon! I live in Lincoln City, and we have a Model 2, a Model 5, an STL-10, and a 2001. LUCKY!

  • @TheLegoboy1997 They also have a bunch of Model 2's and 5's that have never been installed.

  • @Droideka133 they are no longer made how it probly happened was get them from some other city that up graded the sirens

  • such an awesome sound, but only when its just a test

  • so scary!

  • these bad boys are going off right now in oregan.. god help the PACIFIC coast

  • Thunderbolts, I love them!

  • The reason why the tsunami sirens are here is because Oregon is preparing in case the Cascadia Subduction Zone ruptures.

  • Recorded from Rays parking lot.

  • Are these still in place?

  • @rca50a Yes. They were only installed a few years ago. They were surplus from Spokane, Washington.

  • @Audinos A few years ago????? I thought T-Bolts where put out of production. Im confused

  • @Droideka133 Do you know what "surplus" means?

  • @Audinos Truthfully no

  • @Droideka133 A surplus of something means having more than you need. When the military has used items they don't need, they sell them as military surplus. If the county of Spokane removed all their sirens and they aren't doing anything but taking up space in some warehouse, they are surplus sirens.

  • There's thunderbolts in Oregon?!?!?!?

  • @dillonbf , However, they sounded very different from the Hawaii thunderbolts sirens.

  • When does this get tested? I might go to Waldport in the summer...

  • ok thanks

  • oh i thought the siren came from COCFRD. (Centrel Oregon Coast Fire Rescue District). yomeky32, i too live across the bay and i can hear it just fine.

  • If they run the fire station in Waldport, they control the sirens. There is a small Whelen electronic siren on the roof of the fire station, but I think that is only used for fire calls, as it did not sound during this test.

  • You cant even here it from across the bay which is where I am for one week every year. So if there were a tsunami i would be screwed.

  • Thanks for your comment on my video, Audinos, but where is the siren in your video? I didn't see it...

  • It is three blocks away in the center of the photo. At 0:30 there is a group of people in the distance walking in front of it. Unfortunately it didn't rotate and was pointing the other way.

  • holy shit had no idea that oregon even had any thunderbolts, thats cool

  • There are still a few Thunderbolts in the St. Helens and Clatskanie areas left over from the Trojan nuke plant.

  • Ya! Oregon and Washington coasts are in some of the biggest threats for Tsunamis!

  • all tsunami sirens should sound like silent hill's. haha, btw I live in Portland, Oregon

  • Hey, I live in the area Portland area too!

  • woo! go portland!

  • What are the blowers, and what is the chopper? By the way, if I could rate this video, I would rate it a five star!

  • Have those malfunctions ever been reported?

  • I like the sound of sirens!

Let me get this straight - The siren you recorded in this video is the Tsunami Siren, and Waldport also has a Fire Siren. Is that correct?

  • There is a 2-cell Whelen on the fire station. I don't know if they use it anymore, but ten years ago it was a Model 5.

  • Thanks! What day of the week, at what time, do they test the sirens?

  • I believe that it is Mondays at noon, but this may have changed.

  • They are operated, I believe, by the city fire department. I live several hours away, and I'm sure in a town of 1,500 people, someone would know if a siren isn't working.

  • It wasn't. It was facing the opposite direction from the camera. The one a mile to my east (right) was rotating. They bought these from Spokane, Washington, when they dismantled their CD siren system.

  • Do you mean "where are the sirens?" Read the description.

  • WHERE'S THE SIRENS?
