Note to anyone watching; when you press SYNC, the software 'links' both tracks together meaning that when you press play on the cued track it will be perfectly beat matched (99% of the time) to the one play. Also meaning when you press play it will jump to where the software thinks you should have pressed it. When you move the cue point, this link is broken and needs doing again; hence this guy having to use pitch adjustments. Make the cue point, then sync.
I've been djing for over 12 years in clubs now, first it was vinyl and then cds. Now I go out and play all over the place and I think at least 50% of the djs that play before me or after me use some kind of software to match up the beats. In all the time I've seen people using software not once have I seen a member of the crowd come and complain that the mixing is perfect. The majority of people in a crowd don't give a shit, they just want to rave it up.
I don't think I've ever had "fun" beatmatching. I get enjoyment from selecting which track to play next, how to transition to it, and what effects to use.
@NateBiggity ok. Here´s my recommendation: the feeling of being doing all that shit in the mixer, is uncomparable to not doing it really. It´s hard to learn at first, but the feeling of satisfaction when you´ve done that, is really great. You are a dj because you love music! Come on, show love to the music. Make it feel you like you feel it, you´ve got to coddle the mixer. I know it sounds dumb, but just try it in your home, alone or whatever and you´ll see ;)
good tutorial. i've had a midi controller for a while now but just recently got serious about practicing. been mixing or trying to without centering that line. this will definitely make things easier. thanks :)
i have this software. and i just run it using turntables and external mixer i never use sync. i like doing the pitch work manually and getting a tight mix that way. FUCK SYNC!
this is y i call it craptor. i kno bunch of other dj software have sync button, but this is the only one that tries 2 get every1 to use it. i am a man of manual beatmatching and pitch sliders, even on midi controllers. this takes all the skill, and fun out of mixing imo
@mitachu Yea, this vid looks like someone who just discovered the sync button in traktor and suddenly became a dj with enough skill to teach beatmatching and mixing :P
DJing thee days isn't about beat matching. I've gone from analog to digital and have started using beat match, it gives me more time to experiment with the mix. All the crowd really care about is the music you play and the emotions you show. Beat match gives you more time to have fun with the filters and get 4 tracks going at the same time.
@whatcholookinat you cant work the dancefloors without being groovy but at the same time innovation is key, i live remix but no software for me in the end if you cant beatmatch your ears dont develop
pushing sync is how u beat match on traktor. super lame to use this. use serato and some tables. i had no idea how easy this program was to beat match. its not supposed to be easy. thanks alot traktor, ur the reason we have so many terrible djs. abelton or scratch only
If youre going to press sync when mixin, you might as well throw all youre gear away. You will never learn that way, you gotta have that ear for music. Peace
Big thanks for the video, it's really helped! I've been having some trouble getting the hang of this...just a quick question for you though, is this only possible with track with similar BPMs? I mean if you try and sync a track with a BPM of 100 to a track with a bpm of 250 it wouldn't work would it?
Yeah, the original song distorts too much with that big difference in BPM. About +/-15 BPM still sounds acceptable. But of course you can create intresting remixes if you change the BPM more.
@DutchiesDelight The only reason it would have been off is due to the crossfader settings in options. If you had this set with enough play yes it would still sync them.
i dont have cue and cup

Real dj's can beatmatch without screen where the bpm on it is..
this is fake..

its a crossfader ;) but this actually isnt the real beatmatching, this is syncing, so you let the machine beatmatch for you, not do it yourself
its hard, I just tried it myself, as a beginner I admit, in VDJ... :p

LittleLabourMester 2 years ago
No, I Pressed sync with 2 tracks with a difference of arround 30 bpm and it still was off by 3 bpm.
But 30 is a big difference, for house you are usually arround 120-130 bpm.
So it will only work 100% if you have tracks within a range of 15 bpm.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
