  • since when did you use the atari coins sound? and the sounds like a sid.

  • Excellent video, I liked how you intercut scenes from the movie with the game levels. I would say both versions have there good points but a really great Krull game has yet to be made. Thanks for the strategy on the arcade version as I couldn't get past the first stage. :D

  • Cool looking movie and game, i'll have to check them both out eventually.

  • Gotta say i didn`t knew the game or the movie!

Being the Sci-Fi freak that i am,i`m eager to watch this classic now!

Thanks for sharing Mr. Pio :D !

    Awesome work as always!

    Cheers!

  • Great video John, Krull is a really cool video thats for sure! I will have to pick up the 2600 game as it would be a great deal more difficult to grab an arcade copy. Anyways quite interesting video, take care!

  • @RNRgammer Thanks.... Killing the Beast in the Atari version will forever remain a mystery.

  • Excellent video! Never seen the arcade version before, that looks pretty great, and that pinball adaptation would've been great, too bad it wasn't released. I've never played the 2600 version, but it looks awesome, the graphics in the spider web stage are excellent. I like how you fight a gingerbread man at the end, too. :) I could be mistaken, but I seem to remember it being a reasonably big title for Atari, and they promoted it a decent amount in their Atari Age magazine.

  • @niceandgames Ahhh Atari Age Magazine, I loved getting those in the mail when I was a kid.

They atually did some cool visuals on the 2600 version, even those the Beast does look a little gingerbread man-like.

  • @MAMECADE Yeah, looking like a gingerbread man is a good thing in my book. I should get out my Atari Age magazines, might be fun to have a look through them again. :)

  • @BlazonWrath Yep, I was especially impressed with the Atari game. It had little nuances that really shine, like the Princess weaves when a Slayer gets too close to her and when she walks her dress sways. Very impressive design for the Atari 2600.

  • The Atari game looks pretty good. I'll probably get that one of these days.

  • @WillisFilms1 Once you understand what you have to do its pretty cool.

  • Great review. I love how you showed the parts of the movie that relate to the game.

The Atari version looks awesome! Not too expensive on eBay either.

  • @vintagevideogamegeek Thank you. It was a fun video, but I totally procrastinated on it. It should have been posted a week earlier. Shame on me. The Atari game is a lot of fun, I recommend it.

  • I didnt even know that came out for the 2600. Looks fun as hell though.

  • @Zzyyxxyyxx It is once you know what you're doing.

  • 9:31

    11 out of 5 Glaives.

  • @CaptainFussenpepper Awesome. Thanks.

  • Awesome review John one of your best ones yet! And you brought back some great memories for me of this classic movie from my youth. : )

  • @jboypacman Awww, that's awesome John. Thanks for the really kind compliment. I was procrastinating on this video for a while. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Krull the movie is absolute class :o) Great review :o)

  • @RetroGamerVX RGVX, I didn't even know you watched my videos. Thank you sir.

  • Fantastic review!

    Way to go mate!

  • @alex76gr Thank you very much!

  • @alex76gr Thank you for the kind words.

  • really good in-depth review.

  • @controllerthrowers Thank you very much Sir.

  • I havent seen that movie in some time...great flick...

seems I should pick up the 2600 version of the game too. ^_^

    good review.

  • @BigDaddyDarth Without a doubt. Great Atari game.

  • WOW Krull is Awesome and i haven't seen it in years probably not since i was 6 or 7 or something like that lol! and i never knew they made video games about it. From the looks of these games they look pretty decent. I love the comparisons you selected from the film to the games that was a very nice touch and i agree the atari 2600 boss ending was alot more challenging and fun. Excellent Episode.

  • I remember renting this movie on Video2000 back in the early 80s. Didn't know the arcade game was that good. Really excellent game in my opinion!

Wow the Atari 2600 game really stands out in its own right. The graphics are actually very well done in this version. I don't believe I own this game and it has in fact just appeared on my wish list!

    Well done review!

  • @markvergeer Hi Mark, I don't recall what Video2000 is. Hmmm was it something in the States as well?

I'm very glad this video showed you some interesting stuff. Krull on the Atari is one of those games that if you just plugged it in you wouldn't know what the heck is going on, but once you know the ground rules it's a lot of fun.

BTW, you guys and the GC are insane.

  • @MAMECADE Video2000 was a video tape format promoted by Magnavox/Philips and used tapes that had two sides so it had a lot of time on a tape. For a time it was even more popular than Betamax over here in the Netherlands. Still VHS won it in the end despite the fact that it was an inferior technique.

Yeah the GC does strange things to the keepers doesn't it? LOL

  • @xTHExSTIGx Thank you Stig. Get some beer, rent Krull and play some Krull video games. That sounds like a winning combination to me!

  • "The Glaive can not kill the beast, only the flame of love between the princess and princess can destroy him" - The beast is a bigoted WestBorough church member and only sweet lesbian action can destroy him :D What an awesome premise for a game!

  • @Quimbyrbg Indeed!!!! Oddly enough, KRULL was one of the few 80's movies without gratuitous T&A.

  • Cool!

  • @IMMORTALONE19 Thank you very much for the comment!

  • @MAMECADE You're welcome! :)

  • Not forgetting Ken Marshall from Star Trek DS9 (with less hair!) in the lead role!

  • @rawhide2803 Ah yes. Not quite as dashing as he once was. Growing old sucks!

  • I've seen this movie on TV for the first time when I made holidays in Berlin some years ago.

You will get tons of views for this video, believe me. ;)

  • @Highretrogamelord89 I ran across your KRULL video during my research for this video. KRULL in German must sound cool.

  • another obscure machine i pumped 1000 quarters in.

  • @eightbitclick I rarely saw a KRULL machine back in the arcades. And I haven't seen one now in ages.

  • Great video, you put a lot of effort in it. Thanks a lot.

At around 5:34 is it supposed to say "The Princess and Princess"?

  • @RottenRroses No. it's supposed to say Prince and Princess, and I've corrected that now. But boy wouldn't that have been a thrilling plot twist!

  • @MAMECADE I suppose I've found another one. 9:26 in the middle paragraph: "but the it would have".

  • atari game was better

  • @holdmyballsforasec Yep, that's what I concluded at the end of the video as well.

  • Fantastic Krull feature, MAMECADE style. I didn't know Liam Neeson was in Krull. :)

  • @narox It was really early in Neeson's career. He has a pretty good death scene.

  • rep the weapon from krull
