@bensolloway that's all you mac users can say isn't it? you can't claim that macs are more powerful because they are not, you can't claim they have the latest and most cutting edge hardware because they most obviously do not, you can't say they are cheap because they certainly aren't, so all you can say is that you are rich? How low and pathetic. And by the way, my PC is an unlocked i7-970x overclocked on a state-of-the-art Asus board with 3 HD monitors, and it cost me USD2,800.
@ImperialArmour You really seem to have an issue with Apple? I bought a 2nd hand macbook to run a music program. I simply wouldn't trust a windows run laptop to take out and play live.

LINUX FTW.
I thought GSM had something to do with the carrier? Darn! I said this to someone on here... NO i look real stupid.
If you are going to steal anything from anyone, please make sure you can make millions off of it. As you mentioned, apple stole from Nokia and made millions! hahahahh
I see, so it's ok for apple to steal but not microsoft.
The so called innovative apple who uses other people's ideas and call's them apple's innovation,eg the mouse and touchscreen phones to name a few.
Taken from wikipedia "Nokia was one of the key developers of GSM, The world's first commercial GSM call was made on July 1, 1991 in Helsinki, Finland over a Nokia-supplied network"
hey apple soldier i just recently purchased a 27 inch i mac and i started to watch ur vids and i like the way u say things im waiting for the switch to apple as soon as my mac gets here. How did u get ur self in the corner and have it watch what ur doing please comment back TY
@yankeboy007 He was using a screen capture program called screenflow. Hope you enjoy the mac which i' m sure you will i switched 1 year ago one the date.
alexwilsonvids are a retard .. LINUX does just work out of teh box epecially the NEW 2009- 2010 releases. have u tried linuxmint 8? kubuntu 9.10? Give linux mint 8 a TRY and tell me it doesnt work out of teh box!!! it worked out of teh box on all machines i installed it on. including new laptops.
Also, by saying that Apple uses computer parts, it means that it is using PC parts. Stop trying to make the Mac out to be something different than it really is. If I go and take OSX off of my Mac, and put Windows on it, would that make it a PC? SO in a nutshell, Macs ARE PCs.
Displayport wasn't created by Apple. VESA made it, and released it back in 2006. What Apple did was adopt it, and make a Mini-DP connector. Sure, it was a smart thing. But I'd rather see that they had chosen HDMI. Apple has not helped make DP the standard. First, it is not the standard for computers and accessories. HDMI and DVI is till the king. And I have not seen any non-Apple products using Mini-DP. My Dell U2410 LCD has Displayport input. But thats not a Mini-DP.
It's ok for Apple to make a deal with Xerox but not ok for Microsoft to buy QDOS?
And GPL isn't the only type of Open source license. Yes in this case Microsoft was wrong. But is Apple giving credit to the developers for the code their using from BSD? No, that's the point of open source. You can do with it what you want.
No. That's like saying SUN copied off of Microsoft because their OS is also run on Intel processors as well as SPARC.
First off, Microsoft didn't invent the idea of supporting Intel. IBM, who was Microsoft's client in the 80's, used Intel and microsoft HAD TO develop their OS for that platform that IBM was using.
Secondly, OSX is based off on NeXTstep, which was already compatible with intel among other platforms.
It means the source code for an application is freely available. For anyone to use, fix, study, modify or do as they please with. Firefox is probably the best known example. The opposite of open source is proprietary closed source software. BTW open source software is different to freeware.
Google 'General Public License' and/or 'Free Open Source Software' that will tell you about pretty much everything you need to know.
I like how everyone downranked my comment explaining how everything Apple is actually "innovative" about, was adopted and expanded upon, and that they're no different than Microsoft.
2 - the display port is not a standard on pcs, it is on apple comps! duh =S dvi/hdmi is a standard pretty much
3 - haha! all phones look like iphone? moto droid looks like iphone? hero looks like iphone? x10 looks like iphone??? you should check your vision! that 27" imac display is blinding you....
4 - ther is a difference between an appl machine and a pc - the O fucking S! some ppl like windows, some hate win so much that they will spenda
5 - a mercedes costs a hell lot more than a focus! get some better analogies!
6 - apple dont use pc parts. pcs and mac use same hardware! get it now? @ 11:36 - than why is a mac pro logic board better than a pc board? same technology, same brand....why is it better?
19:23 - omfg! what are you talking about? apple switched to intel cos xbox was using power pc chips? THAT is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard! poor ibm couldnt keep up =,( lolololol
Perhaps he was in a hurry to make this video, and didn't have time to take his coat off. Maybe his heating broke down. Possibly he just likes wearing it. Could be anything.
Yah it just pisses me off that every other phone company makes their phones look exactly like an iPhone with the same fucking interface as an iphone with the finger scrolly thingy.
I think it's good that other phone manufacturers are taking inspiration and ideas from the iPhone's UI. It's called competition.
Apple will have to innovate and make the iPhone even better to stay ahead. Especially given the price they charge for the thing compared to other touch-screen phones.
IMO the iPhone is hideously overpriced for what it is now. Far cheaper just to buy an iPod Touch, plus a cheap mobile phone for the phone calls one might need to make and receive.
all this video is showing how much of a apple fanboy eric really is. he has shares in apple for fucks sake. he has no idea what he is talking about. about the only thing i like about apple is there ipods but even then there are better mp3 players on the market
First of all, iPods are media players, except for the shuffle which is the only music-only player. And second, you don't have a fucking single clue of what you're talking about.
the iphone may have been inovative but they left so much out and now they are just getting left behind. take 1 look at the htc hd2 to see that the iphone is being left behind
iPhone behind? WTF are you talking about? All the competition is nothing but a bunch of iPhone wannabes, how can ANY smartphone be better than the iPhone without an App store?
Bla bla bla bla. The App Store is the one and only with thousands of applications for pretty much everything, other apps stores haven't got nearly 1% of that, and they'll never be able to get nearly as much apps as the App Store. And don't forget that gaming companies like CAPCOM, UBISOFT and EA are already on the works for new games. So sorry but no one can really compete with the App Store.
I am well aware of how many apps are available for the iPhone and iPod Touch. To be perfectly honest I reckon 95% of them are trivial crap. Plus Apple is imposing some serious limitations on the applications. I mean, what good is Skype if it only works on WiFi and not 3G? NO multitasking.
More seriously though a smart-phone which does NOT allow me to tether it to my laptop, or the carrier charges me much extra for tethering capabilities. As is the case with the iPhone. Is a serious problem.
For one thing I regularly call friends in Hong Kong from the UK. All UK mobile carriers charge around £1.50(GBP) a minute for this. With Skype it's FREE, even from my Nokia phone on 3G.
Apple has a specific exclusion which prohibits iPhone applications from doing VOIP over the 3G. This is why iPhone VOIP applications such as Skype and Fring are WiFi only. I do believe this was originally done to keep AT&T happy.
>For one thing I regularly call friends in Hong Kong from the UK.
Use Jaja. That's what I do when I want to call Hong Kong or the Phillipines. save a lot of cash. Skype would be better, of course.
you're right, Apple obviously made a lot of concessions to keep At&t happy. I still wonder WHY... I understand at first, but screw At&t now. People have proven that they would buy the iPhone at unsubsidized prices...
Just now I counted no less than 35 snow globe apps for the iPhone in the App Store. How many friggin' snow globes does one need for heaven's sake? Trivial crap indeed.
Sure there is some good stuff as well from the likes of Capcom, Ubisoft and EA. but it's very much in the minority.
The plethora of snow globe apps is nothing, there is hundreds of equally useless gun simulators. Need I mention flashlight apps?
It highlights a problem though. It seems that any idiot can download the free SDK, quickly cobble something together no matter how useless or unimaginative it might be, and send it off to Apple for the App Store.
It also makes the good stuff much harder to find, with the App Store how its currently run. This could actually frighten good developers away from it.
Hide the developers away from it? Are the developers scared because there are tons of crap for desktop OSes? It's the same thing, search for video editor on google and you get a few good apps and a lot of awful apps, search for a specific apps on the App Store and you get the same results, but on the App Store there are ratings, which do make things much easier.
Just pointing out, those thousands upon thousands of apps, probably a good 60-75% are just worthless or trivial shit. Why flood the app store with tons of BS which basically hide the really good apps?
There's no hiding of the good apps, the recommended/most liked apps are easy to find as they're shown in the App Store. And well, there are such things as ratings you know.
An application will only make it to the recommended and most liked if people can find it in the first place. Again apps will get rated only if potential buyers can find them.
Ever heard of the phrase 'oversaturated market'? If not Google it. Well that's exactly how the App Store is now.
I remember the 'I am Rich' one costing almost 1000 bucks.. LOL It was the one which kicked off the whole useless app thing. There was also the much publicised and quickly withdrawn 'Baby Shaker' app/game.
I want an app which does VOIP or streams video over 3G, or even runs in the background. There is NOT an app for that.
That's because even 9 year old boys can make their iPhone apps, which is great. And of course there'll be crap, yet there are a lot of good apps, utilities and games, which still surpass by a lot the ones found in the other App store-wannabes.
Yes there is a lot of great applications and games, but they're mostly buried by all the shit written by the 9 year olds.
Unless your application is on the front page or near the front page of the App Store, hardly anyone is going to find your app. This will scare some good developers away, who may not want to spend the time and money developing good apps and games. They'll develop for something else. Like Android or Symbian or WindowsMobile, where their apps are more likely to be seen.
Having to go searching and digging is making things harder for the potential customers. Remember people are lazy by habit. If it's not easy they tend not to do it. If a developer is making a totally new and innovative game, how are people going to search for that game if they don't know what to search for?
Desktop apps are somewhat different, because there are many places to buy them from, both brick'n'mortar stores and online.
Yea, god forbid all the snobby pre-teens who own an iPhone cant live without their Sims 3.
I got a Blackberry for work, and even those there's an appstore for that as well, with games and apps and all kinds of other shit, I oddly do not require those things. All I need it for is to function as a phone, and check my work mail. And oddly, I can survive without the functionality of a "media player" or games.
That's why your stupid BlackBerry will remain nothing but a phone while the iPhone is the future of mobile computing AND phoning. And BlackBerry's Apps Store? Can't even be compared to Apple's, sorry.
And you think that's a positive thing? The more, the better. The more options you have, the better. Nokia hahahhaha. As good as it might be, it's not nearly as good as the iPhone. With its Symbian OS and it's pathetic available apps, both the bundled and the available ones. I'm sorry, but no iPhone in the market is a portable computer like the iPhone, they're all stupidphones.
Who cares about the bloody App Store? You know my thoughts on that now.
Yeh the Symbian OS phone I use does many things the iPhone can't do. Like run GPS sat-nav in background as standard with all maps already included. This proved extremely useful on a recent trip to Hong Kong. VOIP over 3G again running background. Streamed video and radio over 3G. Not to mention fantastic battery life and a real keyboard.
BTW I've got an iPhone 3G. It's sat in the draw not used. It belonged to my brother.
Well the app store is useless to me, unless it has the apps I actually need or work the way I want.
I need turn by turn GPS sat-nav for Hong Kong and Guangdong province China with maps stored on the phone and not in the cloud. The Nokia can do it. Is there an app for that?
I need the VOIP app to be always running in the background, so I can always always receive incoming Skype calls regardless of what the phone is doing.
Never got on with the virtual keyboards. Guess I'm old skool.
-I'm sure "there's an app for that", maybe G-Map would be fine?
-I think you could get something similar with Push notifications, and I think that works with fring - which supports skype.
-I guess so. I needed just a week to get used to the virtual keyboard. By much prefer my Mac's, yet I don't see much of a difference with a physical one.
I checked G-map it's UK, Europe and USA. Nothing for Asia. Same with TomTom.
I'm sure push notifications would just sent a message through telling me I had a missed call and there is a voice message waiting for me. I want the VOIP app to actually ring, and be able to speak instantly to the person. That's how I like things.
Difference between a virtual keyboard and a real one for me. I can always use a real one without even looking at it. Not so with on-screen, there been no feeling to it.
Ok, I guess Nokia's GPS is better when it comes to Asia. Probably because the iP. Asian market is still relat. new
The push notification can carry a sound, and it can ask you if you want to go and accept the call or just dismiss the message (I'm talking theorically, I don't use Fring so IDK)
Yeah I understand the point of the non-looking thing. But still, I think it's not very comfortable even with a physical keyboard. Maybe an voice-to-text software would be better. There's an app for that. :)
BTW I've really haven't got anything against Apple itself. I'm using a Macbook Pro to write these comments, plus there is another Mac in the house.
It's just that some of their products I find are not suitable for my uses. I would never consider buying an Apple TV, as I see it as only been a media extender for iTunes.
HAHAHHAA Android better? And let's not even mention Windows Mobile. It's a failure. Read articles everywhere, even Microsoft itself admits it, it's a fucking failure.
Android can multi-task well and I has this super awesome feature called freedom, The iphone has to jail break bullshit to get freedom. Windows mobile 6.5 is not a failure, cite this articles now.
I will take the risk of malware, I have been lucky with Windows, I think I can have the same luck with the android. Why do people run a web browser, email client, and Word document, and listen to music at the same time? if you say its an awesome super computer it needs to multi-task at least at the level of Windows Me. I like to run 3 or 4 apps at once. Skype, web, steam, and notepad.
Skype no, Fring yes, I believe (with push notifications). They are not really open at the same time, but you can switch to them quickly and they have directly access to what you were doing.
Way to misrepresent what the articles say. Windows Mobile 6.5 is not a failure, they stated it failed to be as much of an innovation as past versions, meaning, it was more of an update or service pack than a brand new version.
'The iPhone will be the future of mobile computing', well that's your opinion @emperordarius. The iPhone may well suit your needs, but it does NOT suit the needs of everyone. It is NOT the Jesus phone by any means.
Apple have imposed far too many restrictions on it. Which prevent it been truly useful by people such as myself. Now an unlocked jailbroken iPhone, that could possibly be useful to me. As it loses most of the crippling Apple have imposed on it.
It's not my opinion, Apple surely will improve it's defects with time, and with it's gigantic success there's no place for just opinions.
Jailbreaking is stupid. It may completely ruin the user interface and bring nothing but trouble. The app store should be less strict, but jailbreaking is definitely a no-go. Unlocking is another thing though.
yes true @mukatuna but did not you here. You must be a terrorist or drug dealer to want a jail broke IPHONE. At leastthat is what Apple lobbyists have been trying to convince some groups so they will make it a crime to do so.
The problem with most of the Ipod / Iphone products is not the hardware. It is that Apple is against true innovation and development.
@TheShowThatSUX I found that totally laughable when I heard that Apple thought that anyone jailbreaking an iPhone is a terrorist or is into organised crime.
Of course any real terrorists or troublemakers just use cheap throwaway pre-paid phones. Why they're commonly called 'burner phones', they get burned after use.
I don't really care who's app store is dominant right now. If it don't offer the applications I need, then it's really quite useless to me.
I don't need a choice of 35 snow globe apps, or hundreds of gun simulators, or dozens of flashlights(apps which turn the screen white) or anything else which is equally trite.
Now, the App store doesn't ONLY have those things dude. There are plenty of other apps in the App Store as well.
One can make the SAME argument of any popular platform.
Look, You think Windows needs 5000 minesweeper games? Nope. Does the abundance of minesweeper games mean that windows only has minesweeper and nothing else? Nope. Should I complain about 5000 minesweeper games being on the platform when there are thousands of other programs that aren't minesweeper? Nope.
Unfortunately the iPhone App Store does not offer the things I need. Which is:
Turn-by-turn sat-nav with maps on the phone for Hong Kong and southern China, for some upcoming work and vacation I'm doing. Is there an app for that? Not that I've found.
Skype which can always be running in the background on the phone, ready to receive incoming Skype calls. Apparently Fring can do this, but have my doubts. Is there an app for that?
BTW I do have an iPhone, it's sat in the draw here not used.
How about Tom Tom hong kong? Southern china? No luck other than some maps from Treascovery.
Hey, if Skype can't run in the background all the time, that's not really Apple's fault. there's a lot of behind the scenes BS going on with Apple's partners, you know.
I've seen iPhone TomTom for Hong Kong, but I need Guangdong province and surrounding areas as well.
The Nokia E71 I currently use, and will be using for this trip already has turn-by-turn sat-nav, plus the required maps I've already downloaded free from Nokia's website. I'm travelling as light as I can, hence the need to only be carrying the one device plus a laptop.
The analogy with Windows is somewhat different. In that there is not a single sole app store offering dozens and hundreds of exactly the same shallow triviality.
Plus with Windows there is no enforcement and censoring on about what apps are allowed to do, unlike the iPhone.
So with Windows yes there are thousands of Minesweeper games, but at the same time I can always find a good choice of apps which suits my needs.
I know a registered iPhone developer. He wanted to develop a Basic interpreter for the iPhone. To create a free app which would simulate the sort of Basic one finds on a Commodore64 or TRS80. Not particularly useful, but of interest to retro geeks such as myself.
Apple refused it as software development is not allowed to happen on the device. He released it in the end crippled and only functioning as a calculator. This stinks!
The crippled calculator called SmartCalc which would have been a IMO much more interesting retro-Basic interpreter. Can be enabled to it's full functionality by jailbreaking the iPhone and amending one of app's files via SSH. This is all thanks to Apple's censoring App Store 'Gestapo'.
an app to emulate BASIC used in commodore and tandy? Yeah, I wonder why it got rejected....
Apple could possibly get sued over something like that. That's probably why they rejected it. There could be other reasons. Like Apple rejected a bunch of games because it was possible for the devs to get the user's phone number through the app.
I didn't actually say 'emulate'. I just said simulate the sort of late 70s early 80s 8-bit Basic one finds in that type of computer. Gave those two as an example, so people might know what I'm talking about.
There is no copyright infringement going on here, no copyrighted ROMs from those computers are been used. The old Basic language itself is not subject to any IP issues, there is no formal specifications or copyright on it. The developer actually sent me Apple's reasons for refusing it.
The exact wording for the refusal of MatrixBasic was:-
'We do not allow another Platform can download/install their self programs.' In other words an application is not allowed to create other programs, even if those very simple programs are only running within the application itself, such as is the case of MatrixBasic.
That was the reason for the app's refusal into the App Store, and it's subsequent release as a crippled calculator.
Oh, that makes sense. Looks like they don't like the open-ended nature of the app. I know that your friend ad good intentions, but the open ended nature of software like that could have all kinds of unintended, unauthorized uses in Apple's view.
Kinda like when they rejected all those Unity games. The dev COULD potentially gather user phone numbers and data through a feature of Unity. That doesn't mean they will, just they could.
so what your saying is that the iphone is a pos without the app store. straight out of the box the iphone is nothing. there are so many phones on the market that can do more than it straight out of the box
Around 16:10, where you claimed Microsoft just buys and uses as their own. Thats the exact same fucking thing Apple did. They both bought licenses for GUI from Xerox. They both bought out smaller companies and claimed the tech as their own or adopted it into their OS (Apple SHAKE for example, was made by a company called Nothing Real back in 1997, then bought by Apple in 2002). Yet you claim that SHAKE is Apple made software. You have no fucking clue.
Why Innovate on the Display Port when you can use the best port for displays ever High Definition Multimedia Interface or HDMI and it can be used on portable laptops and desktops.
When Apple gave Microsoft a Mac back in the 80's and Bill Gates personally wanted Apple to license the software to outside manufactures so that Mac would become the new standard also keep in mind that Microsoft's Interface Manager was being developed 2 years before the Mac was given to Bill Gates also Interface manager was later renamed Windows just before it was released.
Now after saying that how can Microsoft copy or steal ideas from the Mac when 2 years before they even seen a Mac they
Apple doesn't own the Power PC chips IBM and Motorola do so the 360 uses Motorola and IBM parts.
Apple does use PC parts the Hard Drives you use are not special made they are either Western Digital or Seagate Hard Drives the only special made Hardware Apple get's is the Chipset (Motherboard) so get over it Emeek.
He didn't say windows pc parts he said pc parts! apple does use pc parts because it makes personal computers, pc parts are components put together to make a personal computer. SO YES APPLE DOES USE PC PARTS!! "A personal computer is a computer that is used by one person at a time in a business, a school, or at home. The abbreviation PC is also used"

windows pc parts and mac parts are the same, mac don't make their own hardware they source it from other manufactures just like windows does.
the only difference between a mac and a windows pc is the operating system not the hardware.
the car analogy is ridiculous because most car manufactures make their own parts the don't source them from else where.
talking about windows stealing how about apple stealing nokia GSM, UMTS, and WiFi technology for their iphone.
do you think apple wears a halo?
benjy288 2 years ago
Apple stealing Nokia's GSM UMTS and wi fi?
I thought GSM had something to do with the carrier? Darn! I said this to someone on here... NO i look real stupid.
If you are going to steal anything from anyone, please make sure you can make millions off of it. As you mentioned, apple stole from Nokia and made millions! hahahahh
jackies35 2 years ago
I see, so it's ok for apple to steal but not microsoft.
The so called innovative apple who uses other people's ideas and call's them apple's innovation,eg the mouse and touchscreen phones to name a few.
Taken from wikipedia "Nokia was one of the key developers of GSM, The world's first commercial GSM call was made on July 1, 1991 in Helsinki, Finland over a Nokia-supplied network"

Also, by saying that Apple uses computer parts, it means that it is using PC parts. Stop trying to make the Mac out to be something different than it really is. If I go and take OSX off of my Mac, and put Windows on it, would that make it a PC? SO in a nutshell, Macs ARE PCs.

Don't you have to program an OS to run on a certain type of CPU?
spiceylawnmower 2 years ago
You have to code your OS to work on certain types of processors.
sc0pl355 2 years ago
So couldn't you say Apple copied Microsoft by changing their coding to also be Intel based?
spiceylawnmower 2 years ago
Secondly, OSX is based off on NeXTstep, which was already compatible with intel among other platforms.
sc0pl355 2 years ago
They didn't change, OSX always had support for x86 arch, they just didn't release it until a few years back.

what is open source?
Ameeran5 2 years ago
Software were the source code is open for everybody to modify or use :)
TheGreatStash1994 2 years ago
It means the source code for an application is freely available. For anyone to use, fix, study, modify or do as they please with. Firefox is probably the best known example. The opposite of open source is proprietary closed source software. BTW open source software is different to freeware.
Google 'General Public License' and/or 'Free Open Source Software' that will tell you about pretty much everything you need to know.

manicjupiterflute 2 years ago
I think it's good that other phone manufacturers are taking inspiration and ideas from the iPhone's UI. It's called competition.
Apple will have to innovate and make the iPhone even better to stay ahead. Especially given the price they charge for the thing compared to other touch-screen phones.
IMO the iPhone is hideously overpriced for what it is now. Far cheaper just to buy an iPod Touch, plus a cheap mobile phone for the phone calls one might need to make and receive.

dirtygore 2 years ago
iPhone behind? WTF are you talking about? All the competition is nothing but a bunch of iPhone wannabes, how can ANY smartphone be better than the iPhone without an App store?
emperordarius 2 years ago
Do you forget that the iPhone had NO applications apart from what it came with for a whole year, and NO 'app store' again for a whole year.
App stores for phones have been around for a long time, ever heard of Handango?
mukatuna 2 years ago
Bla bla bla bla. The App Store is the one and only with thousands of applications for pretty much everything, other apps stores haven't got nearly 1% of that, and they'll never be able to get nearly as much apps as the App Store. And don't forget that gaming companies like CAPCOM, UBISOFT and EA are already on the works for new games. So sorry but no one can really compete with the App Store.
emperordarius 2 years ago
I am well aware of how many apps are available for the iPhone and iPod Touch. To be perfectly honest I reckon 95% of them are trivial crap. Plus Apple is imposing some serious limitations on the applications. I mean, what good is Skype if it only works on WiFi and not 3G? NO multitasking.
More seriously though a smart-phone which does NOT allow me to tether it to my laptop, or the carrier charges me much extra for tethering capabilities. As is the case with the iPhone. Is a serious problem.
mukatuna 2 years ago
Because why would you need Skype if you have a phone? Apple didn't do that, Skype did that.
ShinobixNinja 2 years ago
Why would I need Skype in a phone?
For one thing I regularly call friends in Hong Kong from the UK. All UK mobile carriers charge around £1.50(GBP) a minute for this. With Skype it's FREE, even from my Nokia phone on 3G.
Apple has a specific exclusion which prohibits iPhone applications from doing VOIP over the 3G. This is why iPhone VOIP applications such as Skype and Fring are WiFi only. I do believe this was originally done to keep AT&T happy.
mukatuna 2 years ago
Hello? There's another thing called iPod Touch, which can only use WiFi as it is a microcomputer and not a phone. What about that?
emperordarius 2 years ago
>For one thing I regularly call friends in Hong Kong from the UK.
Use Jaja. That's what I do when I want to call Hong Kong or the Phillipines. save a lot of cash. Skype would be better, of course.
you're right, Apple obviously made a lot of concessions to keep At&t happy. I still wonder WHY... I understand at first, but screw At&t now. People have proven that they would buy the iPhone at unsubsidized prices...
sc0pl355 2 years ago
Philippines, I mean... But yeah, use Jaja. It's really cheap.

Just now I counted no less than 35 snow globe apps for the iPhone in the App Store. How many friggin' snow globes does one need for heaven's sake? Trivial crap indeed.
Sure there is some good stuff as well from the likes of Capcom, Ubisoft and EA. but it's very much in the minority.
mukatuna 2 years ago
LOL, snow globe apps. Thats more useful than the Sims 3 on iPhone.
kaosum2 2 years ago
The plethora of snow globe apps is nothing, there is hundreds of equally useless gun simulators. Need I mention flashlight apps?
It highlights a problem though. It seems that any idiot can download the free SDK, quickly cobble something together no matter how useless or unimaginative it might be, and send it off to Apple for the App Store.
It also makes the good stuff much harder to find, with the App Store how its currently run. This could actually frighten good developers away from it.
mukatuna 2 years ago
Hide the developers away from it? Are the developers scared because there are tons of crap for desktop OSes? It's the same thing, search for video editor on google and you get a few good apps and a lot of awful apps, search for a specific apps on the App Store and you get the same results, but on the App Store there are ratings, which do make things much easier.
emperordarius 2 years ago
Oh also dont forget the app "I am Rich". Costs $999.99 to buy, and does not a god damn thing.
kaosum2 2 years ago
....and it has been removed, so?
emperordarius 2 years ago
Just pointing out, those thousands upon thousands of apps, probably a good 60-75% are just worthless or trivial shit. Why flood the app store with tons of BS which basically hide the really good apps?
kaosum2 2 years ago
There's no hiding of the good apps, the recommended/most liked apps are easy to find as they're shown in the App Store. And well, there are such things as ratings you know.
emperordarius 2 years ago
An application will only make it to the recommended and most liked if people can find it in the first place. Again apps will get rated only if potential buyers can find them.
Ever heard of the phrase 'oversaturated market'? If not Google it. Well that's exactly how the App Store is now.
mukatuna 2 years ago
For those who cant remember, over saturated market is what caused the video game crash of 1983 as well :)
kaosum2 2 years ago
I remember the 'I am Rich' one costing almost 1000 bucks.. LOL It was the one which kicked off the whole useless app thing. There was also the much publicised and quickly withdrawn 'Baby Shaker' app/game.
I want an app which does VOIP or streams video over 3G, or even runs in the background. There is NOT an app for that.
mukatuna 2 years ago
That's because even 9 year old boys can make their iPhone apps, which is great. And of course there'll be crap, yet there are a lot of good apps, utilities and games, which still surpass by a lot the ones found in the other App store-wannabes.
emperordarius 2 years ago
Yes there is a lot of great applications and games, but they're mostly buried by all the shit written by the 9 year olds.
Unless your application is on the front page or near the front page of the App Store, hardly anyone is going to find your app. This will scare some good developers away, who may not want to spend the time and money developing good apps and games. They'll develop for something else. Like Android or Symbian or WindowsMobile, where their apps are more likely to be seen.
mukatuna 2 years ago
They are not buried by anything, you just need to search and try the app. Again, it's the same with Desktop OS apps.
emperordarius 2 years ago
Having to go searching and digging is making things harder for the potential customers. Remember people are lazy by habit. If it's not easy they tend not to do it. If a developer is making a totally new and innovative game, how are people going to search for that game if they don't know what to search for?
Desktop apps are somewhat different, because there are many places to buy them from, both brick'n'mortar stores and online.
mukatuna 2 years ago
If there's a new game, they take a look at the news,
Desktop apps are not different, since you basically use one and only one search engine to find them - Google.
emperordarius 2 years ago
App store sucks, Steam is like 10x better for games.
XXASCII808XX 2 years ago
Yea, god forbid all the snobby pre-teens who own an iPhone cant live without their Sims 3.
I got a Blackberry for work, and even those there's an appstore for that as well, with games and apps and all kinds of other shit, I oddly do not require those things. All I need it for is to function as a phone, and check my work mail. And oddly, I can survive without the functionality of a "media player" or games.
kaosum2 2 years ago
That's why your stupid BlackBerry will remain nothing but a phone while the iPhone is the future of mobile computing AND phoning. And BlackBerry's Apps Store? Can't even be compared to Apple's, sorry.
emperordarius 2 years ago
Yeh.. there is probably only ONE snow globe app on the Blackberry app store, and ONE is plenty enough. Same with Nokia's Ovi store.
BTW my choice of smart-phone been the Nokia E71. Which can do many useful things for me, most of which the iPhone can't.
mukatuna 2 years ago
And you think that's a positive thing? The more, the better. The more options you have, the better. Nokia hahahhaha. As good as it might be, it's not nearly as good as the iPhone. With its Symbian OS and it's pathetic available apps, both the bundled and the available ones. I'm sorry, but no iPhone in the market is a portable computer like the iPhone, they're all stupidphones.
emperordarius 2 years ago
Who cares about the bloody App Store? You know my thoughts on that now.
Yeh the Symbian OS phone I use does many things the iPhone can't do. Like run GPS sat-nav in background as standard with all maps already included. This proved extremely useful on a recent trip to Hong Kong. VOIP over 3G again running background. Streamed video and radio over 3G. Not to mention fantastic battery life and a real keyboard.
BTW I've got an iPhone 3G. It's sat in the draw not used. It belonged to my brother.
mukatuna 2 years ago
Without the app store, a smartphone is like an OS with very very few apps. Less than Linux.
You can get as many GPS apps as you want from the APP Store.
You can VOIP over 3G, WiFi or GPRS with Fring.
Radio streaming with Wunder Radio, over 3G.
iPhone's battery life is awesome if you turn off unneeded services.
A real keyboard is just cumbersone, distorts design. Virtual keyboard is far superior.
PS: About that 3G, would you like to send it to me via mail?
emperordarius 2 years ago
Linux has more applications than the iPhone app store, poor analogy.
XXASCII808XX 2 years ago
My bad, I meant that: App Store = Windows (nr of app) while the others are like Linux, nr of apps of course.
emperordarius 2 years ago
yeah but the iPhone isn't a computer operationg system!!!!
xelentoliver 2 years ago
It's a Mobile Operating System, I expect more from an Os that is called "innovative", android is much superior to it.
XXASCII808XX 2 years ago
The only thing at which Android is better is the porn app store LOL. And it's not like it's that useful
emperordarius 2 years ago
Well the app store is useless to me, unless it has the apps I actually need or work the way I want.
I need turn by turn GPS sat-nav for Hong Kong and Guangdong province China with maps stored on the phone and not in the cloud. The Nokia can do it. Is there an app for that?
I need the VOIP app to be always running in the background, so I can always always receive incoming Skype calls regardless of what the phone is doing.
Never got on with the virtual keyboards. Guess I'm old skool.
mukatuna 2 years ago
-I'm sure "there's an app for that", maybe G-Map would be fine?
-I think you could get something similar with Push notifications, and I think that works with fring - which supports skype.
-I guess so. I needed just a week to get used to the virtual keyboard. By much prefer my Mac's, yet I don't see much of a difference with a physical one.
emperordarius 2 years ago
I checked G-map it's UK, Europe and USA. Nothing for Asia. Same with TomTom.
I'm sure push notifications would just sent a message through telling me I had a missed call and there is a voice message waiting for me. I want the VOIP app to actually ring, and be able to speak instantly to the person. That's how I like things.
Difference between a virtual keyboard and a real one for me. I can always use a real one without even looking at it. Not so with on-screen, there been no feeling to it.
mukatuna 2 years ago
Ok, I guess Nokia's GPS is better when it comes to Asia. Probably because the iP. Asian market is still relat. new
The push notification can carry a sound, and it can ask you if you want to go and accept the call or just dismiss the message (I'm talking theorically, I don't use Fring so IDK)
Yeah I understand the point of the non-looking thing. But still, I think it's not very comfortable even with a physical keyboard. Maybe an voice-to-text software would be better. There's an app for that. :)
emperordarius 2 years ago
Well about the 3G.. possibly.. It's locked to O2 UK, and it worked last time I checked, but currently don't have an O2 SIM to try it with.
mukatuna 2 years ago
Nah, just joking. You should sell it online.
emperordarius 2 years ago
Not sure about selling the iPhone.. I think the girlfriend might be after it when the contract runs out on the Samsung she's currently using.
mukatuna 2 years ago
BTW I've really haven't got anything against Apple itself. I'm using a Macbook Pro to write these comments, plus there is another Mac in the house.
It's just that some of their products I find are not suitable for my uses. I would never consider buying an Apple TV, as I see it as only been a media extender for iTunes.
mukatuna 2 years ago
I think that the Apple TV will get more important in the future, when TVs will probably run using the internet.
As for right now, it's a nice way to view the shows you like on a TV without actually having to pay for cable TV.

emperordarius 2 years ago
Android can multi-task well and I has this super awesome feature called freedom, The iphone has to jail break bullshit to get freedom. Windows mobile 6.5 is not a failure, cite this articles now.
probably just a mac fail troll nom nom nom.
XXASCII808XX 2 years ago
Freedom? You mean run crappy apps, make your phone vulnerable to malware and make it look like Obama's asshole? Hahahha!
The only problem is the App Store, which is still too strict. The situation is changing and will change even more in the future.
iPhone has partial multitasking, full is getting near. Why multitask with a ridiculous nr of apps anyway.
Google "Windows mobile failure". Look for "Ballmer we screwed up windows mobile" too. Look on articles on website like CNET or ZDNET. It's full
emperordarius 2 years ago
I will take the risk of malware, I have been lucky with Windows, I think I can have the same luck with the android. Why do people run a web browser, email client, and Word document, and listen to music at the same time? if you say its an awesome super computer it needs to multi-task at least at the level of Windows Me. I like to run 3 or 4 apps at once. Skype, web, steam, and notepad.
XXASCII808XX 2 years ago
I mean awesome mobile computer, not supercomputer =D
XXASCII808XX 2 years ago

XXASCII808XX 2 years ago
Skype no, Fring yes, I believe (with push notifications). They are not really open at the same time, but you can switch to them quickly and they have directly access to what you were doing.
emperordarius 2 years ago
Way to misrepresent what the articles say. Windows Mobile 6.5 is not a failure, they stated it failed to be as much of an innovation as past versions, meaning, it was more of an update or service pack than a brand new version.
kaosum2 2 years ago
No lol, Windows Mobile IS a failure. From its features to its market share.
emperordarius 2 years ago
snipurl com / tnj44
Yea, WM is a failure, only did 300% better than the iPhone according to that site....should have been at least 400% better.
kaosum2 2 years ago
'The iPhone will be the future of mobile computing', well that's your opinion @emperordarius. The iPhone may well suit your needs, but it does NOT suit the needs of everyone. It is NOT the Jesus phone by any means.
Apple have imposed far too many restrictions on it. Which prevent it been truly useful by people such as myself. Now an unlocked jailbroken iPhone, that could possibly be useful to me. As it loses most of the crippling Apple have imposed on it.
mukatuna 2 years ago
It's not my opinion, Apple surely will improve it's defects with time, and with it's gigantic success there's no place for just opinions.
Jailbreaking is stupid. It may completely ruin the user interface and bring nothing but trouble. The app store should be less strict, but jailbreaking is definitely a no-go. Unlocking is another thing though.
emperordarius 2 years ago
yes true @mukatuna but did not you here.
TheShowThatSUX 2 years ago
@TheShowThatSUX I found that totally laughable when I heard that Apple thought that anyone jailbreaking an iPhone is a terrorist or is into organised crime.
Of course any real terrorists or troublemakers just use cheap throwaway pre-paid phones. Why they're commonly called 'burner phones', they get burned after use.
mukatuna 2 years ago
@mukatuna lol. I don't think they truly belied it. It was just the spin to try and get jailbreaking considered a crime.
TheShowThatSUX 2 years ago
Sorry, but it can, and I just did compare it.
kaosum2 2 years ago
yeah, App stores have been around for a long time...
Who's app store is dominant right now?
sc0pl355 2 years ago
I don't really care who's app store is dominant right now. If it don't offer the applications I need, then it's really quite useless to me.
I don't need a choice of 35 snow globe apps, or hundreds of gun simulators, or dozens of flashlights(apps which turn the screen white) or anything else which is equally trite.
mukatuna 2 years ago
Now, the App store doesn't ONLY have those things dude. There are plenty of other apps in the App Store as well.
One can make the SAME argument of any popular platform.
Look, You think Windows needs 5000 minesweeper games? Nope. Does the abundance of minesweeper games mean that windows only has minesweeper and nothing else? Nope. Should I complain about 5000 minesweeper games being on the platform when there are thousands of other programs that aren't minesweeper? Nope.
sc0pl355 2 years ago
Unfortunately the iPhone App Store does not offer the things I need. Which is:
Turn-by-turn sat-nav with maps on the phone for Hong Kong and southern China, for some upcoming work and vacation I'm doing. Is there an app for that? Not that I've found.
Skype which can always be running in the background on the phone, ready to receive incoming Skype calls. Apparently Fring can do this, but have my doubts. Is there an app for that?
BTW I do have an iPhone, it's sat in the draw here not used.
mukatuna 2 years ago
How about Tom Tom hong kong? Southern china? No luck other than some maps from Treascovery.
Hey, if Skype can't run in the background all the time, that's not really Apple's fault. there's a lot of behind the scenes BS going on with Apple's partners, you know.
sc0pl355 2 years ago
I've seen iPhone TomTom for Hong Kong, but I need Guangdong province and surrounding areas as well.
The Nokia E71 I currently use, and will be using for this trip already has turn-by-turn sat-nav, plus the required maps I've already downloaded free from Nokia's website. I'm travelling as light as I can, hence the need to only be carrying the one device plus a laptop.
mukatuna 2 years ago
... continued..

This stinks!

...continued.

I understand how you may feel, but perhaps they simply didn't like the open ended aspect of the app? Just a guess.

an app to emulate BASIC used in commodore and tandy?

The developer actually sent me Apple's reasons for refusing it.

...contined..

That doesn't mean they will, just they could.
sc0pl355 2 years ago
Oh, ok, I thought you were saying...
Well, the thing is, perhaps the open-ended nature of the app caused them to reject it.

so what your saying is that the iphone is a pos without the app store. straight out of the box the iphone is nothing. there are so many phones on the market that can do more than it straight out of the box

Why Innovate on the Display Port when you can use the best port for displays ever High Definition Multimedia Interface or HDMI and it can be used on portable laptops and desktops.

were developing Interface Manager later named Windows I will upload the video where I got this info.

Now after saying that how can Microsoft copy or steal ideas from the Mac when 2 years before they even seen a Mac they
Caboose2321 2 years ago
Oh just wait, they will find a reason for MS copying from Apple.

Caboose2321 2 years ago
He didn't say windows pc parts he said pc parts! apple does use pc parts because it makes personal computers, pc parts are components put together to make a personal computer. SO YES APPLE DOES USE PC PARTS!! "A personal computer is a computer that is used by one person at a time in a business, a school, or at home. The abbreviation PC is also used"
Like all cars use the internal combustion engine!
