Thank you. I am coming with a friend soon, and I am scared to carry cash. Should I deposit to a bank in CR when I arrive ? Obviously, I don't want to carry it all around on my person. Can you give me some input please ?
@johnrn94 You could just use ATM's if you want. Try to take out as much as you can, since their are fees. Are you scared because you think you'll be robbed or you're just scared of losing your money? The likelihood of being robbed is very minimal. Keep the money in a 'safe' at the hotel,,,most have some sort of security box or a manager that can keep it....and just carry what you'll need for the days activities.... And watch as much of our stuff as you can....lot's of INFO. have fun
WOW WISH I HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE I WENT--- MIGHT OF SAVED SOME MONEY IN THE BEATLE ---- I THINK THOSE GUYS ARE CHARGING WAY TOO MUCH FOR THOSE IMPERIALS LOL
I have heard that many Latin American countries consider getting a tip an insult...does this not apply to Costa Rica and surrounding countries? Maybe what I heard was for somewhere else...it would be good to know!!!
You guys make the best videos about Costa Rica...I have been learning a LOT! ;D
@BennyBenedikt You're WELCOME. funny, we almost pulled this video because the exchange rate was getting out of hand a few months ago...like 590 colones to 1 American dollar. Now the video is close to being exact......
Thanx....the only thing about this one is the RATE keeps changing.....right now, it's like 565 colones equal a dollar.....and just a few weeks ago it was even higher, almost 590. 3 months..should be a good time..
Somehow I got stuck with a ripped $20 US with tape on it - NOBODY would touch it. Not even a bank, or the folks taking my $26 at the airport as I left the country. Just remember that although they take US dollars, they treat ripped ones like they have swine.
You're right. They also look at $20's $50's and $100's as if they're counterfeit anyway, so I'm sure if it's ripped they just automatically think it's 'sketchy'....
TIP : for someone looking for old costa rican money, you can check out the local pawn shops, older coins & bills are collectables, the 5 cent coins are used in local artisan art and used in jewlry making.
there was some idiot selling one for $900. anyways i dont know i dont want to be ripping people off by giving them it because its not in the best shape.
There is no 50 Costa Rican dollar any more.... there is a 50 colone coin and it's less than 50 US cents... if you have an old 50 colone bill they are selling for around $100 US dollars (depending on the wear and tear).
Sadly they don't like currency from other countries other then the U.S. dollar. You would have to find a money exchange place to transfer your money into Colones. The ATMs around Costa Rica will give you the option of taking out Colones or U.S. dollars, but nothing else.
