I am trying to get rid of a virus cookie I have ran security scans and it just remove infected files .. but the cookie comes back what should i do.. someone suggested that I turn off system restore and reboot and run an online scan.. what do U suggest. and how do i do this thanks please reply thank you
yes , whenever you get infected by a virus, it is advised to turn system restore off, and remove the virus, and afterwards turn it on. Because the virus could be saved inside the system restore's backup files
either it is disabled by the virus if you can't open it at all. If you can open it but can not successfully use the restore points, that means, your restore points are corrupted. You can't do anything except turn it off and then on again, thus deleting all the previous restore points
the virus can disable it. You need to repair it by manually editing registry. This is the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore] * DisableConfig = 0x00000001

it is possible that the system restore files are corrupt. Try to run the system file chekcer , that should repair damaged windows system files, and after that, use one of the free online virus removal sites, namely bitdefender, Eset and TrendMicro

For those who doesnt see "system restore" tab under system properties:
1. Click Start, Run and type regedit.exe and press Enter
2. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ SystemRestore
In the right-pane: * Delete the value DisableConfig * Delete the value DisableSR
3. Exit the Registry Editor.
Thumbs up? :)

probably the system restore backup files are corrupted. In that case you won't be able to successfully complete the system restore
