  • What a messy and illogical explanation of the Earth's evolution. Shame on Nat.Geo. for producing this fantastical piece of hot garbage. Then the stupid narrator goes on to say, "If you're confused, Join the club, even the earth is confused!" Can you be less educational? Lets make a video that doesn't make sense because we have no idea how to explain Earth's evolution so being national geographic they will buy it. If it's on TV it's the word of the gods! This is why humanity fails.

  • @DelusionDestroyer Lol had a bad day or something?

  • For all you people commenting about the big bang theory- if the big bang theory was true we wouldn't be here in this moment in time. What scientists say is that there is no beginning nor end to the universe due to it being created out of nothing. For example, if I wanted to give my friend a present but in order for me to do that somebody needed to tap me on the shoulder, if there were infinite amounts of people behind me tapping each other the tap would never get to me. See what I mean?

  • @MsBrokenWindows nope.. You're just a bad troll. Go away now.

  • @abcdefghujklmnopqrus Awkward moment when you can't reply so you insult me in any way you can, nice going there. Note the sarcasm.

  • @MsBrokenWindows For you maybe. I'm just pointing out the obvious. I honestly don't care how some idiot on the internet views me.

  • I think I have proven wrong The Big Bang Theroy ... If the big bang started the universe? then nothing could possibly exist...

  • @Hunter54811 The Big Bang Theory is nonsense, what scientists are saying is that something was created out of nothing. For example, if I wanted to bake a cake I need ingredients right? But, if it's what they're saying is true. Apparently, it's possible for me to back a cake right here right now out of absolutely nothing. Obviously not.

  • @MsBrokenWindows no, they are saying that the universe was created by a rapidly expanding, hot, dense state which is our universe, we cooled off because of the expansion, and continue to expand as a universe.... how about you read up about the big bang theory first

  • @leafs3113 Yes, but in order for that to happen the universe was created out of nothing? That pathetic statement got you nowhere. 'Theory' doesn't mean it's real, look it up.

  • @MsBrokenWindows yes, god is also a theory, which makes him not real as well, until proven true, which he never has been, except in the delusional minds of people like you... and the big bang theory actually has evidence... so your pathetic comeback got you nowhere... and actually in the case of the big bang theory, it actually means to try and understand the causes of nature and the universe... like I said, search it up before you start talking....

  • @leafs3113 God is not a theory- there is also proof, not from pathetic people like scientists. Comeback? What are you, 12? How about you look up some religions and get back to me. For the record, I'm not talking; I'm typing. Learn some English before you lecture me about science. You make any further communication with me and I won't reply, I have no intention of speaking to idiots such as yourself. Goodbye.

  • @MsBrokenWindows hahaha, okay, I guess god is 100% proven real now lol... try a theory, and I have looked up religions, that's why I don't have one anymore... you're still talking, people like you start nit picking like that when they know they're wrong, why did you capitalize english? learn it before you lecture me on it.... you have no intention of answering because I'm right and you're wrong, yet another thing people do when they know they're wrong.... more like MsBrokenArgument....

  • @MsBrokenWindows Those like you keep saying that "science says the universe is created out of nothing" (which isn't what it says) and yet that is exactly what you are promoting when you promote God's creation - he spoke the universe into being, thus he made it from nothing that was there to begin with. Arguing against a non-material genesis is counterproductive to your own points of view.

  • U MOTHER FUCKING SAD PRICKS

  • no-one knows and probably never will know how the universe was created.

  • @tonyyoung1000 i do its cald god created the universe theres your anser right there im no genius im just religious

  • @nothingbetterr2do and there's your problem.. Religious people tend to shun the scientific no matter how RIGHT it may be because they're too proud to admit that their deity never exists..

  • @abcdefghujklmnopqrus name an example i can prove it wrong

  • @nothingbetterr2do An example of what? That there is no scientific evidence of any sort of god making us and that there's an immense amount of evidence to suggest that we EVOLVED over the period of a long time? You mean that kind of example? :p

  • @abcdefghujklmnopqrus yea we evolved from cavemen o.k. prove hoe my uncle survived a sawed off shotgun shot 4 or 3 times in the chest and 1 in the back of the head anser god was watching over him that day that was the only anser as well infact the docter said the only thing we could do is pray

  • @nothingbetterr2do You prove that it actually happened then we'll go from there, k? I don't expect to hear from you anymore because you can't actually prove that it happened. good day. :)

  • @nothingbetterr2do if god was looking over him, it would never of happened :/

  • @nothingbetterr2do 1) it could have been bird-shot, not meant for killing humans. ppl have taken shots to the head directly and survived.

    2) lucky, just be glad he's alive and not argue why.

    3) argue about god in some other video please.

  • @tonyyoung1000 You can be easily proven wrong.

  • @MsBrokenWindows prove it then!!

  • Here's something that gets be about this video. How did all that chaos, gravity-driven collisions, crushing, banging, forming, etc turn into the quiet, subtle, green and blue planet we have now? The only 2 answers that come to my mind are A. We got lucky we lived when we did during the "quiet" bit of this chaotic process and all the debris is, oddly, gone or B. It didn't happen this way. Just my humble 2 cents.

  • @moguy200979 "Theoretical models of the Sun's development suggest that 3.8 to 2.5 billion years ago the Sun was only about 75% as bright as it is today. Such a weak star would not have been able to sustain liquid water on the Earth's surface, and thus life should not have been able to develop. However, the geological record demonstrates that the Earth has remained at a fairly constant temperature throughout its history, and that the young Earth was somewhat warmer than it is today." Wiki

  • @moguy200979 And one last bit to chew on: Science seriously suggests, that out of all that (that this video suggests happened) over billions of years you just randomly get intelligent life with brains, skin for protection for multiple surroundings, eyes to see, can heal, can reproduce over and over year after year and all the other wonderful things we're capable of? Something doesn't add up here. I like the saying "Blueprints cannot write themselves." Your thoughts?

  • @moguy200979 yes so that means that a supernatural magical being that *apperently* was bored enough one day said hey fuck I feel like creating life and decided too create bactirial and watch it evolve for literally billions and millions of years this is what your hinting at right ? why is it that everything has to be magic and *mysterious* about how the universe works ?

  • @91markster Nope that still doesn't answer my question.. What are YOUR thoughts on what happened??

  • @moguy200979 MY thoughts are on what my research and studies have taught me but you seem to be skeptical about how basic biology works and seem to think that theres a *greater* power out there Iam interested on what YOU think

  • @moguy200979 There was definitely liquid water on the surface by 3.8 Ga.

  • @moguy200979 or 3 god created us after this

  • I disagree that the Earth is 3.2 Billion years old -_- There is no way that Earth is that old. Maybe other Civilizations in the Universe know what the real age is :)

  • @james65508 why not?

  • @LeGuyIncognito I just don't believe it.

  • @james65508 But you agree with the fact that it's damn old? Well one can't say how old it really is.

  • tanx for helpin me with my college work :D

  • 93 dislike from bible fan.

  • In the case of Himalayas, transcontinental flows caused the Indian continent (formerly separated by a sea) to combine with the Eurasian continent. Where they meet is the Himalayan mountain range, also known as a "continental convergence zone." Extreme pressures have not allowed the continents to overlap, but have distorted the low density rock and caused it to rotate upward.

  • coooooooool

  • god disliked this

  • سبحان الخالق

  • @abdouech1 الدين الخاص بك يجعلني الضحك

  • whats the point doing research for this, when all we could say is, god did it or god meant it to be that way....

  • @valtonen77 Now that's a Good Point. lol- The funny thing is that @ 01:17 "they" don't know When or How plates formed and the narrorator Inevitably Follows up with the preverbiable "Possibly". Go FIgure.

  • Yeah, me neither. I still can't work it out in my mind, how the field is generated but I'll keep studying... it is very interesting though.!!! :-D

  • Why is information contradicting eachother?

  • fat people are dumb

  • @KKingstoneRR Totally!

  • "I don't understand this, but it is a lie because, uhhh. JESUS!"

  • bullshit

  • If radioactive decay is a heat source, why don't we see more radioactive material in magma. If you take a metal magnet and heat it anywhere near melting, the magnetic field goes away. If the iron core is molten or close to it, how can it retain a magnetic field?

  • @Landotter1 First off, we do see a lot of radioactive material in magma, when you take volcanic ash and put it under an electron microscope, you see pitting, which results from radioactive elements decaying out of the ash sample (This has also been noted on fresh samples as the material decays). Further, take molten iron and allow it to flow in any given direction, you get a light magnetic field. Further, Nature just published an article about how the cores rotation generates the field>

  • @danschaoticmind Will said magnetic field occur if there is no magnetic field present to start with. iron will react to any magnetic field so since the earth has one, Does this experiment work in the absence of any magnetic field? I'll do further research on the field. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!!! :-)

  • @Landotter1 "Will said field occur is no mag field present?" Possibly. The notion here is that moving iron (Fluid heat) will form its own field. However, I doubt that there was no magnetic field to begin with. The sun has its own magnetic field as well as did the early moon and mars (Venus still has its). Again, this is as far as I know and I readily acknowledge geodynamos are not my field of expertise.

  • @Landotter1 Thus, it's not "Retaining" a magnetic field, it is creating one by the action of molten metal on the move at a rate different than the earths rotational velocity.

Hope this answers those questions of yours.

  • @Landotter1 Radioactive decay is the decay of radioactive elements and their half life..so in other words the radioactive elements decay into a more stable state hence the decrease in radioactive elements. The outer core is liquid due to super high temperatures however it is rotating (fast) and a moving charge creates a magnetic field.

  • LOL! Go to 3:05 and wait and listen if she say's What the hell xD

  • @DinoThunderable HAHAHAHA i was just going to comment. it sounds so out of place for an educational film.

  • Cool.

  • If Earth's core is said to be solid, why is it molten?

  • @heartlessvietboy it's melted metal, but the pressure is so high that it's all crushed into a solid

  • @heartlessvietboy

The inner core is solid due to the pressure. It is surrounded by a liquid core, the mantle is not liquid. The mantle is the consistency of red-hot steel, malleable, but far from molten.

  • @heartlessvietboy only the inner core is solid (high pressure) and the outer core is liquid (high temp but lower pressure) also the mantle is solid but elastic

  • "That's what we know....or what we think we know." Mmmm....catchy!

  • "A question remains, What the hell is driving them? Hell, apparently." lol, funny in a NatGeo video..... XD

  • Arrgghh why can't Americans pronounce the 'c' in "arctic". It's not difficult... arc...tic. Try saying it. Easy wasn't it?

  • @PutItAway101 OMG! YOUR SO RIGHT ! XD . I say it both way's.

  • I used to create planets like earth but, then i an arrow to the knee

  • @MonstaInTheDark i used to make arrow to the knee jokes like you. then i took a life to the face.

  • @MonstaInTheDark *shoots another arrow* lol

  • Sexy.! Jk

  • My university Physics professor said he became interested in Physics because he wanted to know how God put the universe together. He said everyday this belief was reinforced by discoveries. I also believe this and I suspect there are many Christians who have got it wrong. Not because the Bible is wrong but because they have misinterpreted through pride and arrogance. Read Job to see that God asks Job where were YOU when I laid the foundations of the world?

  • @exenrontexas Read Job to find how "God" is a petty tyrant. Read your post to find out how you're filled with pride and arrogance of your own.

  • @dmmaggi God is God and nothing, nothing at all, that you say or do can change that. You sound like Job's so-called friends who told him to curse God and die. Now I think that you may still have a chance to turn it around IF you repent and turn to HIM for forgivenness and that is NOT pride or arrogance but the simple facts.

  • @exenrontexas You're an arrogant ass. A total and complete arrogant ass.

  • @dmmaggi Do you hear that knock at your door? That is your parents and teachers who have come to confiscate your computer to prevent you from embarrassing them further. ANSWER IT.

  • @exenrontexas

I can't control what others are embarrassed about. You, however, can control what you do. Try not to embarrass yourself with your foolish arrogance. No one is picking up what you're putting down.

  • @dmmaggi You can control the embarrassment that YOU cause and YOU experience with your foolish statements on youtuve and if my statements are not picked up then neither are yours. I suggest you work at your maturity, little boy.

  • @exenrontexas Geez. Not sounding terribly Christian right now are you? What happened to "turn the other cheek"?

  • @dmmaggi All of the other reindeer used to laugh & call him names.

  • it's true continental drift is a lie. if it were true mountains would be where the coasts are because the land would have been push up at that point

  • @pseudoschema

    1. Continents and plates continue to drift after mountains have been formed.

    2. The depth of oceanic water has NOTHING to do with plate tectonics BUT effects our "view" of it.

    3. Science isn't your thing.

  • We all only a fraction of the space system...

    And where is my popcorn?)

  • Fucking religious nutters get everywhere! Stick to your videos about god if all you're gonna do is provoke people on scientific videos! Backward fucks!

  • If God does not exist, who or what controls this gigantic mess...?

  • Her voice is wonderful!!! She sounds like she is trying to be sexy!

  • people wake up such thing dont exsist GOD maked the WORLD

  • ponage

  • Christyz Clazzzz IS RAW dawG

    :)

  • I love her voice and she does sound sexy when she says hell-:)

  • what show is this from?

  • Considering the shark is over 400 million years old and us humans are what 2500 years old according to the bible, I think we can rule god out as the creator...

  • I love the way she says hell, its sexy

  • What Nat Geo documentary was this clip taken from????

  • Sorry I just happen to stumble upon this interesting video while watching the music video to "Without You" by David Guetta ft. Usher! =o)

  • @desimonium Good for you

  • How can you say this was the way earth was formed ?? This is a theory nothing but. And there's not even a way to get scientific proof unless you go back in time.

  • @MadCrazyGamer Are you serious? Again with the "Only a theory" bullshit...

  • @EurofighterVsRaptor dude shut up. unless you have a time machine and go back in time you cant prove this what really happened? or what scientists actually say?? dude people have the rights to believe what they want to and have the rights to there own opinion, just like you do and scientists think the big bang theory created us HAHAHAHAA! a big bang?? HAHAHAHA!

  • @MadCrazyGamer It's blatantly obvious you're playing the religious nut job antagonist bit.. That's ok.. You can believe in whatever whack-pot ideas you want.. but I'll believe in what I want to believe and it's just so happens in this case I'm correct. Also, can you propose an alternative theory to the formation of our and so many other planets?

  • @EurofighterVsRaptor No i cant :) and i dont care. now can you gimme scientific proof that this was what happened?? ....??? and ohh btw ... your saying you dont believe in god??

  • @MadCrazyGamer There is scientific evidence but I don't know about it as it is not my field.. You could take this video as evidence if you wish.. And no I do not believe in God. But if you do then it is still no reason to dismiss the scientific side to it.. some people consider science as trying to understand the workings of God, But no, I'm an Atheist.

  • @EurofighterVsRaptor Gravity is also a theory, do you question that?

  • @3DrewG

Gravity is a fact. We have a theory to explain it.

  • @MadCrazyGamer Yes its a theory but it can be supported by evidence and thus it makes the theory a realistic option. The proof is that we know that asteroids and smaller things collide regularly with the earth still to this day. Taking that fact and expanding it over a couple of billion years you get a snow ball effect. That's how you would say the earth was formed, and its also a way of presenting facts in to the thesis.

  • @AronjonathanEugene Can you stop it! just because either posted something wrong does not mean a huge argument should have started! It almost fills up most of the comments page.

  • I like it very much!

  • First time i hear this on national geographic 3:06 :P ? What the HELL is driving 'em

  • Has the Earth stopped accretion of spatial particulates and masses? (even in a small way) If so when & why has it stopped suddenly? What's the proof? If it hasn't stopped it means only one thing. The earth is still under construction & slowly gathering mass. It's never going to stop.

  • @nayanmalig Do you see it happening? Of course Earth receives a daily amount of dust and minor meteorites, but compared with its bulk mass, this is tiny. Besides, the atmosphear also looses particles towards outer space, so the mass of Earth is more or less balanced at the moment.

  • @JorgeGines The earth is billions of years old & it really has not stopped gathering mass. there's no reason to stop. some say the gathering mass is "negligible".

but "negligible" x millions & billions of years = MUST be big.

seems that scientists think up too much conclusions based on current evidence. Personally I think humans still do not have the vision, science & technology that can answer such big questions like how & when the universe, matter, stars, planets came into being.

  • did the narrator just cuss?

  • son cilcos naturales que tienen un periodo de conclución son eminestes y las generaciones presentes tienen algo para su llegada

  • Love the narration.

  • can someone please tell me where can I buy this whole episodes of this exect videos in dvd, I dont want to rent, just buy the dvd

  • @ssung52488 look up nat geo on the net , and which documentary this is , I think you might find this documentary on the net where you can buy , But i don't really know , sorry :(

  • There is no subduction.... Pangea theory is flawed to the point of disbelief.

  • swag

  • @heartlessvietboy, it has a core but is completely surrounded by gases

  • Is Jupiter a gas planet or a solid core planet?

  • '' if you're confused, join the club '' (;

  • ? usa ne coast was joined to chillie? lol this woman sums up plate tectonics as a whole, no logic, no evidence, no sence, no other observed evidence on other planets etc. unlike EE theory wich has all of these. there are wolves that hunt for truth and sheep that blindly follow because its more comforting to be told things and more exepting to go along with the crowd

  • I AGREE! .This is not philosophy or theology class and arguing with christians who run to worship an old appliance left in the weather which rusts in the image of jesus connot be rationalized. The best thing to do is be passive, let them go and have 'faith' in that life will breed them out. After all, egypt and the roman empires religion disappeared to the evolution of religion and so to will monotheism. (yes, the empire wasn't originally christian, it was pagen which worship natural gods.)

  • .... yay, i love how my science teahcer makes us watch this stuff at school...

  • don't be racism

  • This is all speculation and hardly proven, what is fact that the earth looks as if it is growing and this explains the land masses better this is just misinformation taught as fact

  • so how life began after earth was formed?

  • all of you are dumb......this video is about plate tectonics. The people that used this as a way to argue are foolish. Go make a video with your point of views and make video responses or comments on that. Because the people who are actually intellectuals don't want to see your petty squabbles.

  • What I like about this video is the healthy amount of self skepticism. Too many scientific documentaries uses absolute terms to describe theories that's based on very sketchy evidence. Not that those theories are necessarily wrong, quite often they're good attempts to make sense of what little we know, but to state them as if they're as certain as facts is to overestimate our actual knowledge.

  • what a load of rubbish. images like these remind me of the struggle copernicus had in the middle ages.

the earth is expanding and contracting. the "tectonic plates" are the earths weakest points/rips. i do agree that magma is released, however its not due to tectonic plate movement. its due to "pressure", hence the expansion/stretching of the sea floor.

for once i would like to see a 3d simulation and not cut away. they dont show because they know its not possible!

  • Every time Chuck Norris Sneeze, The Plates Move!

  • Moje planeta...díky za video.

  • Wrong! Next I'm sure you will tell us the earth is flat. Question: what takes up more space, one atom of a given nuclide or its decay products? Here's another, how does an adiabatic sphere transfer heat from the inside to the outside? Does your math model agree with empirical data? Loser!

  • Wrong!

  • Lots of "belief" here, but no "science"....

  • haha , this narrator actually makes this fun !

  • You can't show this in 2D - you have to model it around a globe to get it right.

  • I belive in jesuse but I also belive in this...wtf...

  • This video would be a lot better without the "what the hell is driving them?" comment... I'm a teacher and that one sentence makes this video unusable in a science classroom. Just something to think about when making educational videos. Make them kid appropriate.

  • fake. The earth was created in six days by JESUS.

  • @aussersein fuck jesus, he didnt exist

  • @skeatesy1 and someone needs to go 2nd kings on yo ass!! grrrrrrrrrrr love she bear

  • @skeatesy1 fuk off

  • If, California and Australia were connected, and the oldest part of the Pacific is only 180 million years old, and the pacific is spreading,

then the maps of Pangaea are wrong.

The continents are much older, than any of the ocean floors,

i wonder, if they all fit on a smaller globe, This would then, make sense.

Continents can't drift, they are being spread apart by new widening oceans floors!

    WOW! Earth grows!

    watch?v=oJfBSc6e7QQ

  • @rongrite The expanding Earth theory does raise an awful lot of questions, and explains nothing new.

    - where does the extra material come from?

    - why does this mysterious material accretion only happen in planets and not, say, in space?

    - why do we not measure this growth in diameter today, but we do measure continental drift, and we DO observe subduction?

    - how do you explain fossil distribution, which is consistent with plate tectonics but not with "static" continents which split apart?

  • I thought Uranium was a man made element. How could this be inside of magma? not buying this....

  • I JUST HAVE TO KNO THIS FOR BIOLOGY LOL xD DUNNo if i believe it :P

  • it's amazing video

  • Guys...its 2011..chuck norris jokes are SO PLAYED OUT.

  • Ha ha lol PEOPLE this is a lie its not sience in 1st place you have to image that it happened you cant test it lol, and they call it sience its a religione. Yes thats how they think it happened but really it has not lol...Pangea theory is bunch of crap they dont say that they make Africall nearly as small as u.s.A and i see some descrimination is this theory so called basically a lie. DO YOU REALLY BELIVE YOU CAME FROM A ROCK??? LOL such a stuped theory to began with.

  • @yuri1s its called Science . its not afraid to search for truth, its not afraid to look for new discoveries, its not afraid to admit that new evidence can be found or that as new things are found some other things science didnt have a full understanding of may be changed. its not afraid to say we are all just the same people if you go back far enough. and telling me Science is religion lol Thats like not collecting stamps is a hobby or Not smoking is a habit. Science is Not BIAS but REAL

  • @yuri1s and no i dont think i came from a rock i would be a tool if i thought science said that. and if you cant understand basic science and wish to debate it remember there are hunders of different fields Science all that have studied to became what they are all working in there own fields and by bringing all there work together can paint a pretty good picture of what we know . with religion there is no working together its one religion vs another and people speaking the same crap over & over

  • @yuri1s

Do you enjoy embarrassing yourself? Do you get a kick out of people laughing at your comment - whether serious or not?

But I'd find an alternative for Hovind's incoherent ramblings.

  • @yuri1s WTF are you trying to say? No one can understand you mister nutjob creationist man.

  • Fact: Chuck Norris' soul is the one creating a magnetic field that shields our planet from the solar winds from the sun.

  • 0:58 Except deadly cosmic wind doesn't come from the sun.

  • Proper stuff ! I like the narrator :P

Also, I think every little human being born on this rock should undergo some scientific class for a broad view of logical and physical reality :)

    Spoc inc. hell yeah !

  • 4:45-4:58 cex...close enough

  • to all this...wheres equestria?

  • First destructive solar flare was recorded in 1859. Telegraph poles were on fire and telegraph network were down. After careful study, next event was already foreseen with 90% life wipe out but Scientists coded the actual date in Religious way to prevent people from panicking (late 19th century). Michael the Archangel was the key where he defeated Satan and save the Earth from burning in Hell. 2012 - 1859 = 153.

Search 153 that relates "Michael the Archangel" in Google. You'll be surprised.
