  • My father worked at Rupp back in the day and knew Mickey Rupp personally...matter of fact, he probably made this machine!! Cheers!!

  • This sled brings back memories... Breaking arms, putting me in a concussion I am glad we blew up that piece of shit

  • sweet manitoban rupp

  • nice,id like to upload a vid of taking her out on a lake and giving it a REAL run

  • @joecobra1234 Hi Joe.........I plan on putting some miles on the Nitro this winter and I'll try my best to get a better video posted of it running a little bit faster. I really have to think about buying a helmet cam because this holding the camera with one hand and the bars with the other hand thing is pretty darn awkward.

  • @2500vtg get a gopro

  • Love those Rupps !!

  • Yep, Roger........they are incredibly fun sleds. Too bad they quit building them. I sure wish Rupp, Merc and John Deere had hung in there with the snowmobile business. Those were my three favorite brands of sleds.

  • @2500vtg

Winters like the one we're getting this year are why Rupp, Merc, John Deere and Kawasaki got out of snowmobiling. Times were different in the late 70s and early 80s. One or two lean winters pretty much did in many manufacturers...

  • nice job bro

  • @5477258 Thanks, buddy. I rode the Nitro on our clubs vintage run a couple weeks back and it ran like a charm. I had a passenger with me so I wasn't able to have max fun on it that day, but in one really smooth long stretch, I took it a wee bit past 80 before the lady friend was banging on my helmet to slow down. I'm certain I could have crested 90 mph there if I held it a little longer.

  • just wondering if the motor had reed valves? or just open intake ports. and your opinion on rotary valves, mostly built by rotax. i think they're junk and flood alot

  • @kriegdouch This sled does have a reed valve engine. I really have no experience with the Rotax rotary valved engines, However I know some people who love there R/V Ski Doo engines and they don't seem to have much problems. I can see no reason why a rotary valved motor should experience any more flooding issues than a reed valve or piston port design. If it's flooding, then there's an issue with the carbs or the ignition is weak and unable to fire the mixture or perhaps a compression problem.

  • @kriegdouch

the secret to keeping those rotary valve engines running is making sure the timing gear is set properly, they are great engines, but wont run worth crap if the gear is even one click off.

  • my uncle had a rupp nitro when i was a kid. i watched this sled do things that arent easy tasks even on modern machines.

  • im guessing rupp was manufactured in ohio. Dam i want a nitro. that thing is quick for it's age. I don't know what other snowmobile at the time was liquid cooled. it's just sad to see all these manufactures that seem far ahead of it's components stop production.

  • @kriegdouch Being a 77 model, this one was built by Arctic Cat. The VIN tag reads "Manufactured for Rupp Industries , Mansfield Ohio by Arctic Enterprises". So I'm assuming it was put together in Thief River Falls, MN. Yes, it's truly a shame that Rupp (and so many others) had to shut down their factories just when they were starting to build some truly outstanding sleds. I put about 75 miles on the Nitro last season and every mile had me grinning ear to ear. Thanks for your comment.

  • @2500vtg '76 nitro was not built by artic cat so the 77 engine are pretty much same as 76 but it improve the performance than 76. '77 nitro have 6 more hp than '76. On 1977 artic cat company help to build for them to keep the rupp going.

  • That engine PURRS! Very smooth sounding power plant. Great memories with those old Rupps,

  • Nice sled!! Oh the memories!! Arctic Cat first with aluminum chassis.

  • Nice sled!! Oh the memories!!

  • First production sled to have an aluminum tunnel.

  • @mccauleyprop Hmmm? Perhaps Rupp might have been the first manufacturer to use an aluminum tunnel....I'm not sure. But it certainly was not first used on this particular sledas I have seen loads of different makes and models with aluminum tunnels going back to the very early 70's and possibly even from the 60's.

  • @2500vtg

1966 the first rupp sled "sno sport" with aluminum tunnel. Rupp never make any steel tunnel.

Because they like aluminum due to lighter than steel.

  • Do you like this snowmobile??

  • Oh Yeah! What's not to like? It's fast and great fun to ride.

  • Well that great! I really like it. I just wondering if you like it. Rupp is a good company.

  • My Dad has a Alouette I think it is called a Snow Brute. It been sitting in the shop for about 15 years since the last time we used it. We also have a Old Coleman single cylinder about 250cc would be my guess.

The Coleman is such a ugly color Green. I bet you haven't heard to many ppl talk about a Coleman snowmachine before.

    :-)

  • I just chatted with mu dad. Its a 71 Skiroule SS 300.

  • I never got the Super Brute video made today cause it was too darn cold. I restored a 73 Skiroule RTX300 a few years back and am quite familiar with the green Skiroules which were a division of Coleman at the time. They made more than campstoves. For some silly reason, I sold my RTX a couple years back and have been regretting it ever since. I'll try to get the Alouette video up sometime later this week.

  • Great video!

Nice to see the older machines run as good as your does. Those Nitro's were darn fast machines back in 77.

  • Thanks Gerry. It does run pretty sweet for an old sled. Tomorrow I plan on firing up my 74 Alouette Super Brute 295 and taking it for a run. If all goes well, I should have a video of it posted by monday.

  • all ur sleds are mint o man there so nice really wish i could ride the one i restored over the summer :(

  • nice machine!
