Nice, accurate playing; but reaching for the maximum tonal power has little to do with the French musical aesthetic of the time. Two factors which may have prompted Siegfried's observation about excess "sustain" are the acoustic where it was recorded and the heavy stringing, especially of the basses. Plus doucement, s'il vous plait!
OH I loved this piece the acoustics where superb as you could here the music as sweet as a bell and even the lute players breath. This Baroque Piece is especially beautiful as the second movement is so Gaelic it could be played by a Pipe Band and would sound wonderful. Classical Guitar Society of N Ireland.
Nice playing . I did not think much of this piece looking at manuscript ,as i got my copy from notation composer for classical guitar. Its nothing like this music with more ornaments . well done a medal to you.
I like the sustain. I am fortunate in not having heard this piece before now in a way to prejudice me one way or another. I am very envious of the way the lute can deliver bass like that. I'm a guitarist and I have to tune down to do it messing up the fingering I'm used to. So, I will say Tres Belle, Monsieur. Une interpretation excelente!
As far as I know, lutenists tune their bass strings to the key that they're playing in - i.e. they'd have a tonic, subdominant and dominant (??) bass string. Though can anyone confirm this?
beautiful playing - however the instrument has a sustain, rather new for me, the typical periode instruments i know up to now, have bassstrings sounding not so "endless", as a piano with permanently used sustain-pedal.
maybe i´m completely wrong, and it´s only a question of personnal taste, however, the recordings of lislevand, monthelet, and even amateurs like daniel ("kidneycutter") sound much better. with very kind regards - Siegfried
The music is very nice and the cinematography is supremely ridiculous.

Indiscutiblemente uno de los mejores laudistas contemporaneos, inmediatamente se siente el poder de un trabajo tan profesional y profundo.

The tuning of the basses is diatonic and it changes after the key the piece must be performed.(for d minor b flat, d major f & c sharp etc.)
a 13 courses ARCHLUTE tuning (from low to high strings) is:
low G ,low A, low B, C, D, E, F, G, c, f, a', d', g' .
there are different tunings between THEORBO, BAROQUE LUTE ,RENAISSANCE LUTE.

@DuoContinuo Its the echo or resonance from the grotto; this instrument has no sustain.

@sixwingsram es posible que las cuerdas sean entorchadas en metal?
Tengo la sensación de que tienen más tensión que las de un laud convencional.
