I think Tom Jones has a great voice, likes him since his tv show way back. Know all his songs and have most of them on CD and listen to them often....but I must say, no one does this song better than Elvis, I heard Sinatra, Engelbert and others do it, no one comes close to Elvis
Girls from backvocal should stay closer side by side with a singer. So it was on the weird concert James Last in Moscow in 1972. I was greately impressed and couldn't suppress my tears. Vagif

Aqui fue una epoca en que tenia la voz un poco cascadilla de tanto cantar sin control y sin tecnica vocal. Por suerte para todos nosotros eso paso y ahora encima canta mucho mejor y podemos seguir disfrutando de su gran talento.
His voice was actually stronger at the end then it ever was. Written for Sinatra, but conquered by Elvis. Lived by Elvis. Those words paralleled his life. Long Live The King!
First of all, Tom Jones is a great singer and almost everything he sings is good. Sometimes he has some strange arrangements, but vocally he's always spot on. The English words were written by Anka for Sinatra yes, but because of Elvis' tremendous vocal performance, the musical arrangement of the song, it's very different than the others, and because Elvis sang this on his last tour when his health was failing, he had only 8 weeks to live, and still his voice never failed. His voice was actuall
@CuriosityRoads Sorry to insist, but Tom is a tenor with a thick timbre. Tenor or baritone refer to register, not timbre. So, I repeat, because of their registers, Sinatra is a baritone and Tom is a tenor. God bless Tom Jones, still I'm used to Sinatra's version, I find it more armonic. And about his register you'll see I'm not talking rubbish only by listening to some of Tom's albums, you'll find he's capable of singing some high C (no baritone in history ever sang a C5). Regards!
@alpe88 Not really true. Examples of baritones who have gone above the tenor high C in mixed voice include Chris Cornell, Axl Rose, Daniel Gildenlow and Matt Barlow. Even the operatic baritone Joseph Shore has gone as high as the high D (D5) in full voice. A strong mixed/belt voice will allow even a baritone to push himself into the fifth octave handily.
I could just as easily say that Tom is a baritone on the basis of him hitting a C#2 in the song "Nobody's Fault But Mine" from his new CD.
@CuriosityRoads I'll try to be as sincere as possible here on what I think about singing. I sing, I'm a dramatic tenor. But what does it mean one thing or another when defining one's register? I agree with you, he could easily be taken as a baritone singing tenor notes. It's all about collocation. You are no baritone or tenor at all, but you're singing in th position of a bariton or tenor. For instance Gildenlow sings in a mixed voice but using mostly a falsetto. (...)
@CuriosityRoads Same goes for Axl (though I wouldn't dare to compare him with Daniel). In my opinion, both Daniel and Axl should sing as tenors not as baritones, but they lack training. Tom is in complete different level, even in a higher level than Sinatra in my opinion. But what, how does he sing both low and high notes the way he does? By changing the position of the voice. That's sth you can do in pop or rock, but not in opera, for exmple. It makes the timbre sound too differently. (...)
@CuriosityRoads And, since I don't have much more to say here, I'll say that you usually train your voice depending on some fisical conditions. Your condition makes you more suitable for a baritone position or a tenor position. It also depends on the school and the teacher and whatever genre you want to sing. Anyway, I still agree with you. But let's agree about the fact that the topic is pretty much subjective and in that it depends very much on the way you understand singing. Regards!
A couple of years ago I was in Las Vegas attending a Conference, the main night of the confefrence, but in another auditorium, the great Tom Jones was givin one of his amazing shows... I never saw him... :(
He's not SINATRA but nevertheless a great artist... ilove this song... didnt knew this version...Jones is very sympatic for me... humerous... i dont like so much his "Pendant" Humperdinck though this man sang great too.. but he hasnt so much humor... at least i didnt recognized...
Sinatra's version, is good, Tom's is better, but Elvis beats them both. However, Tom shows more emotion in the way he sings it and that makes his performance the best as far as being as able to show deep emotion. In regards to the singing, there can be no doubt Elvis is the best.
Love Tom's singing very much! But for this song,I love Frank's version best!
