dude i have a 79 D2, its a great first bike! reliable bottom end and easy to work on top so you learn a lot without having to go too deep into anything.
@mysticblade35 if your looking for unreliable gas guzzeling but cheap and retrro monster the z650 is good. they dont handle damp conditions well, require alot of maintenance/ tweaking and arn't very fast. but are a raw machine that is well appreciated by enthusiast. is your a newbie, start on something bullet proof like a bandit (gsf 600) or something like that.

Great bike, love that sound. Would this make a good starter bike, or is it too much for a newbie to handle? I'm 5'10", 190lbs, if that helps.
