Gore gave up the presidency because in the end he was convinced by others that the Iraq war was inevitable and that the next two administrations was not going to suit him. He was told that he could have the environment movement and the Nobel Prize...which fit gore like a glove...all the man wanted was to be a hero. It was his gift for turning over so readily.
