United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) figures reveal that a quarter of U.S. cereals grown in 2009 went to biofuel, turning cheap food into expensive fuel. This pushes up food prices and damages the environment, yet U.S. President, Barack Obama, promised continued investment in advanced biofuels in his recent State of the Union address. Higher food prices means more little kids dead in third world nations. I don't want to kill little kids so you can feel good about yourself.
@GrandArchitect3D For your information, Rep. Collin Peterson of MN has mentioned as much as 2 years ago that switchgrass is intended to replace corn and other crops as a better source for biofuel, and will grow perennially, thus inexpensively, and will produce up to 7 times as much energy per acre. As for little kids starving in Africa, that has much more to do with Monsanto and other corporate policies trying make it necessary for Africans to BUY seed rather than grow their own seed.
@GrandArchitect3D And that should tell you something about government priorities. BTW: You should look into switchgrass and biofuels. Like it or not, knowledge is power.
@GrandArchitect3D So, before you examine it, even, you'd rather not believe it? One thing that is now well known, sugar cane packs more energy than corn, which is why Brazil has had a successful economy based on ethanol, and more recently has also found oil off their coast, so they are clearly surging ahead of most of the world on energy. You see, not all ethanol sources are equal. You could look it up, if you bothered to...
@GrandArchitect3D You think excess food in the US will simply be sent to 3rd world countries? I don't think you quite understand the situation fully, those of us in the 1st world have enough food. The problem is that dumping it all in developing nations will destroy any chance of a self sustaining agriculture industry by flooding the market with free food. Its a self-perpetuating cycle. The key is to help build sustainable industry and growth, using aid only when we have to.

Obama will be a one term president. That's not a bad thing since many of his detractors in Washington will never reach one term.
