Many implications have been made to prevent sexual abuse of children in the Catholic Church and the majority of Priests are good men that don't do such things. Just because you only hear about the one priest that sexually abuses a child while there are hundreds of priests that don't but do great work in their Parish Communities. It's true that the sexual abuse crisis is a problem but that doesn't mean that parents should feel any sort guilt for bringing their child to church.

Just because you only hear about the one priest that sexually abuses a child while there are hundreds of priests that don't but do great work in their Parish Communities. I have no particular criticism of the Catholic Church. Isn't 4000 in the US alone enough to be alarmed? Or do you just work off percentages and say we are all sinners. Until the CC requires its priests and members to report sex crimes to civil authorities instead of processing under cannon law we will always have an organization that operates above the law. Until the CC makes its internal investigations transparent we have an organization that claims moral high ground yet falls way short of its charge.

You go to a doctor psychiatrist or any other decent civil authority and they are obliged under law to report the offenses to the law. What does this say about the Catholic Church? Punishments remain both nominal & unlikely, & any defrocking must be ordered or confirmed by the Pope himself, even when the guilty priest has asked for laicization. In cases where the accused priest has admitted to his crimes & has accepted to live a life of prayer & penitence the CDF will merely restrict his ministry, allowing a confessed child sex addict to continue in the church.

@vitolucabratsi 1) Cannon law procedures remain intolerably slow because all allegations must be reported to the CDF, which can order trial in Rome or thll the local bishop to proceed to a cannon law trial himself. The 'investigator' is another priest with no forensic experience or resources. The investigation is conducted clandestinely, with all parties and witnesses sworn to keep the 'pontifical secret' The witnesses and the evidence collected by the promoter of justice need never be made....

-The New York Time (even less of a friend) estimate that 1.8% of priest ordained between 1950 and 2001 have face any abuse-related charges.

@vitolucabratsi Through cannon law, and the resulting procedures that keep reporting of child sex crimes from civil authorities it is no wonder the percentage of reported offenders are low.
Regardless of what reports are available, friends of the Church or otherwise. The documented facts remain and are quite possibly, only a fraction of the crimes that have been committed.
It is beyond question & at the cost of its moral integrity, the CC will do anything to avoid civil process of crimes.

if you knew that the catholic priests were molesters, why would you even go to that church? even if you don't leave the child with the priest you're still associating you and your child with a child molest
