  • Vidio is outstanding. sprPee knows no Scottish Gaelic? My grandfather, Robinson clan, selp of Gunn clan, knows his people spoke Caelic, all except the local tribes in Scotland. In the old days, these were fighting men and if they had no Romans, and later English to fight, they foght among themselves. Begone, Pee, you know not what you say.

  • It is foolish and wrong to mourn the death of these men, rather we should give thanks to God that such men ever lived-General george s patton.

  • lest we forget the sacrifices of the bravest people in the world, the people who have given their lives to ensure our freedom.

  • it a song, just a song, take from it what you will, to me it stirs the blood and raises the hair, but i'm scottish so have a closer link!

  • never knew scottish was.........more like this. I thought it would be a bit more like Gaeilge [Irish] but some words actually seem quite similar to English. I know Welsh is completely different but I'd always thought Gaeilge and Scottish would be pretty similar......

  • @IrishRu5T this isnt being sung in a scottish celtic language, the entire song is sung in english

  • @adambelfast1

There are 2 Scottish languages. Scottish Gaelic (close to Irish) and Lowland Scots (close to English). This is of course sung in the latter.

  • @ajoajoajoaj no such langauge as "scottish gaelic" or "lowland scots"(wtf) only Gaelic, and British English.

  • @sprPee Lake - Loch, Down - Doon, Ball - Baw, To - Tae, Going - Gawn. That is Scots language, it is recognised as a language by the Scottish government, United Kingdom and the European Union.

  • @sprPee " no such langauge as Scottish Gaelic" - What planet do you inhabit ? My family have spoke it for hundreds of years. Google returns 3,650,000 hit on it.

  • @adambelfast1 Scots is recognized as a language.

  • @truefalse no it fucking isnt.

  • @sprPee language in

    — Classified as a "traditional language" by the Scottish Government.

    — Classified as a "regional or minority language" under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, ratified by the United Kingdom in 2001. <-- Yes it is.

  • This is a Scottish song 100% its about a scottish solider who fought for his mate and died. I am a Scotsman and theres nothing than makes me more proud to be one. The problem with scotland is we get to tied up with religion etc but when we go to Scotland matches we are the BEST FANS IN THE WORLD FACT. So Rangers,Celtic,Aberdeen Hibs, hearts just remember that we are all brothers.

  • this isnt in english, its in scots, a dialect of english from scotland obvioulsy. scots gaelic is a different language. just to clear things up a wee bit for some folk.

  • @2001mrwiigamer lay me down in the cold cold ground where before many more have gone,

when they come i will stand my ground, stand my ground, ill not be affraid.

no more shal i see the sun for i fell to a german gun.

  • one of the greatest songs ive ever heard

  • They fight our Politicians wars, they place their lives on the line, they die in the name of bringing peace and democracy to Countries that have been under dictatorships and regimes that remove their civil liberties. HOW DARE anyone disrespect their commitment and sacrifice. This post was to honour the fallen - not to petty bicker about twaddle. The song is about a soldiers own death not about pseudo belief. He has died in the 1st WW and the tribute is now that have followed. Do not insult it.

  • 2 dislikes? I have so many vulgarities for the both of you but I will not disrespect this page.

  • This is a very good song. The quietest and gentlest songs have the greatest impact on our emotions I find.

  • Beautiful

  • epic

  • To all those who have gone before regardless of country or ethnicity, if you fought a good fight (flying passenger planes into skyscrapers doesn't count), I salute you. I spent 24 years in the military and mourn the death of any good man. For those how died, Salute.

  • a little drunk, sorry. "who died, Salute".

  • @madyoda69 Indeed, being a cowardly sonavo bitch flying a passenger plane into a n unguarded building killing thousands of civilians doesn't count...

  • @madyoda69 :o hay it take alot to fly a plain into a building >:( ........lol jk

  • i was in the gulf war it was a bad war

  • Who gives a FUCK wether ur ENGLISH AMERICAN OR SCOTTISH im all 3 and guess what WERE ALL THE SAME inside and out. this song is of our men and women who fell in battle. LOVE YE BROTHERS HUG YOUR MOTHERS AND LO REMEMBER THOSE BEFORE YOU WHO PUT FORTH THEIR LIVES FOR YOU WHO SIT HERE AND ARGUE. WE ARE ALL HUMAN. WE ARE ALL MEN. AND TOGETHER WE ARE HUMANITY. NOW SEND FORTH A PRAYER FOR YOUR LOVED ONES AND THE BRAVE SOULS WHO PROTECTED US ALL...

  • @shadowuser74 that makes you welsh

  • Two people are part of the NVA

  • This song reminds of my honorable ancestors who fought against the British and Italian colonial forces that wanted to enslave my people and exploit my lands. Rest In Heaven, you have served your religion, people and land well. They stood up to armies 10x their size with much more modern sophisticated weaponry. They are the true freedom fighters, they never invaded or did ANY acts of aggression in foreign countries thousands of miles away! Support Peace!

  • @SniperAce187 And what country is that?

  • @RazorCell7 , Dervish State (Greater Somalia). We survived the scramble for Africa, defeated the British four times, beated the Ethiopians countless times and done the most stiffest resistance ever seen against the Italians in the South and the French in the Northwest.

  • This is one powerful hymn...WOW!!!!!!

  • I'm a wee mick and fucking love this song I tip me cap to me Scottish brothers GOOD ON YA LADS!

  • All this talk about Scots and Brits... to bad it takes the 7 largest countrys in military power underneath America just to equal our strength!

  • @AssassinSteven WTF does that mean?

  • @AssassinSteven Well I'm glad I'm Scottish and not American, you're so obsessed with power it is unbelievable.

  • @ginge221191 I'm an American of Scottish descent, and proud of it :)

  • @historygenius I apologise if I've offended you :) just the previous guy has taken the America is better than everyone stance, it annoys me when it happens. I'm very proud to be Scottish!

  • @ginge221191 Nah, it's cool :) It must be pretty cool to be Scottish, I'm just an American who is aware that his ancestors many generations back emigrated from Scotland. PS, American's only as good as you make it for yourself :)

  • Cheers to the Ladies from Hell!

  • Im American, but Scots>Brits

  • its an irish song

  • @addzer2k9 no.

  • First time I heard this song it made me want to fight people at my highschool haha

  • They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. And in the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

  • @UsinMeFables Powerful words. Do you mind if I quote you later on?

  • I like how almost all of the comments on this song so far are people arguing about which military or SF is better. Especially funny is how half of ya'll seem to be pulling all of your facts straight out of your asses. But maybe thats just for me. Personally, I like this song because it brings to mind all of the hero's that have fought, and died for what they believed was right. God bless em'

  • @jamp44 i study history most of the men that fought in Vietnam didnt fight because they thought what they were doing was right many of them didnt even know why they were fighting

  • I like how no one ever mentions Geordies and other Northumbrians. Wor bonny lads have been just as brave as any of your so called `fearless` Scottish soldiers. You can hardly turn around and call us `English` can ye? I say Independence for Northumbria, and get rid of both you English and Scottish idiots. (Cam ye doon frae jockland o' owar frae Ingelaand ... an wu'll hev ye all. Prood o' me toon). Hardly `English` am I? And certainly nae Scot!

  • @floofynut fuckin love it lol, thats why scots have always loved the geordies.....

  • @floofynut

What ever mate. I don t think your balls are as big as you make them out to be! Your a guff and live with it. Come to Glasgow spout your mouth off ike that and you ll be in deep shit before you know it or go further up north where men are men and sheep are scared and they ll put you right in your place. ALBA Forever ballbag.

  • @MrFannybaas aye, haadaway an' shite, "mate". At the end of the day, ye "Scots" are allowed an identity, and are always respected, the world over, as are the "English". When do we lot in the middle ever get a mention? Howay doon tha Toon, and, we shall see who really is all mouth.

  • Thanks too all the armies, soldiers, and heros serving today, much love, and my prayers are with you as you keep our world safe.

  • This is the lament of a warrior. As I listen to it, I think of all the men that I and my comrades have left in our wake. I couldn't count them if I tried. But some of us made it, back home that is, and as I sit here and listen to this hymn, I recall the tribulations we faced, the tribulations that others like me are still facing. My time may be over, but this brings images of battle and the thunderous roar of our guns come back to me. Respect to the fighters who have sung this warriors lament.

  • it was in the first world war the germans called the scots ladies from hell not hitler.be proud of what ever country you come from but be dignified, a lot of good lads died on all sides.we're not politicians

  • What a gorgeous and melancholy tune, so heartbreaking. I've not a drop of Scottish blood in me, but I've always longed to visit and think it's the most beautiful country in the world. Thank you, all you soldiers of Scotland.

  • @dugham94 <:')

    i love being scottish

  • @dugham94 im an Irish man (sort of) my ancestors suffered greatly at the hands of the brittish, who through history were worse than the Nazis. im proud to be of Irish heritage, and to hold citezenship.

  • @dugham94 hahaha! That's just beautiful! You rock man!

  • @dugham94 I'd rather fight alongside a Brit, regardless of what specific country they're from. At the end of the day, we're all British. That was before Britain was formed and it's in the past. Also, calling the English inbred, please. That's South USA. I think you need to let go of the past and embrace the English as Brits alongside Scotland. Don't go all 'William Wallace' on the English because at the end of the day, we aren't like that any more. From a fellow BRIT, peace.

  • @dugham94 what century are u living in? thats rich talking about raping and pillaging englishmen, maybe you should look into scottish history slightly more and dont take too much from the holywood film braveheart, u really think theres a big difference in terms of fighting prowess between people from carlisle and lockerby for example? theres an imaginary border n 20 miles thats about it, im tottenham born n bread, my family come from glasgow, cant get more neutral then that

  • @dugham94 i have fought along side of a scotsman and i was very proud to do so, he saved my life twice and i am very happy to say that he is my friend and that me and him had made it out safe.

  • despite the fact that the entire time Scotland was being ridden by, yes the higher populous of England, but for some strange reason that sam populous are both lacking in the ability to apply brain power but also a populous that are for lack of a better word, blocks at everything, i may speak English but id soon cut my tongue out that bow down to English rule

  • you know i just have to say that i am a true patriot, i love my country and i love its people, over the centuries Scotland has built and empire that the English called their own, we have endeavored and persevered to bring about the development of some of the worlds most important technological and sociological advancements,

  • Just an American here thanking Scotland for all of its sacrifices to keep the free world safe.

  • Just think of it this way!!!!. If Scotland did get independence over the english we would could come down there and kick the shit clean out of you English cunts and take over you would probably call on the americans however i think the Americans would back the Scots instead of you pricks due to heart!!!!!

  • fFor such a small country...(such as japan)... we are the bravest people you will ever meet

  • This is a pure Scottish song made by Scottish heroes. Still sends a chills through my spine. Scottish soliders invented the SAS! the best elite fighting force in the world FEARLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For such a small minority the scots are the best.. Even when hitler fought us he called us the ladys from hell.

  • Fix Bayonets

  • This is an incredibly similar language to english o.o

  • @MasterTaters That's because Scots is really English mixed with Scottish Gaelic just enough so that it can be called a different language.

  • @historygenius no it's not. Scots language has many roots from the French and Gaelic and a bit of Latin

  • @cathmcl So does English!

  • Not sure, I've heard it it sung as "When they come, tell my mum, tell my mum, I'll not be afraid." And "Thoughts of home take me away to her, sweat and blood hide my veil of tears. My sweet dear, say a prayer for thee, close your eyes and remember me. Never more.... shall I see the sun, for my friend fell to anothers' gun."

At a military funeral. Most beutifull thing to see. Then a three shot volley went off.

  • God bless all soldiers, for only they know the price paid for our freedoms. Lest we forget.

    A.) My surname is Mackenzie

B.) All the ppl that were in WW2 should have respect

C.) "A fell to a German's gun" Thats alittle harsh...

    But I'll love it always...

  • is it written in ww2? line 12 it says "for i fell to a GERMAN's gun?"

  • @ichbinsmann Duh!

  • @shieldwolf49 Duh, yourself; it was written about the First World War - the writers GGF died defending a wounded friend during a bayonet battle on the Western Front. He was from Moray, which is in Scotland... which is in England, near Paris. :o)

  • Fuck Iraq and Afhganistan ,Have respect for the millions who died in WW2 ,Those were true soldiers All of them ,From every nation,Real Fucken men,

  • @jerry2guns yea they were , but thought you should know the song is about WWI not WW2

  • I would totally want this to be my funeral song, its sad and its perfect

  • what is playing in the background at the entire section where he's singing?

  • learn history you selfish asshole then we can talk. Scottish history isn't so 'colourfull'

  • Comment removed

  • @MrAdiable point made

  • your the asshole, if you knew anything about history you would kno the FACT and yes it is a fact, that the scots pretty much started the british army and have done incredible things in pretty much every conflict the british army has been in........not to mention they founded the sas the best force in the world, and before people say their not yes they re, they train the navy seals whihc are the states equivalent

  • too right. and dont forget mctavish in COD =] alba gu brath

  • @duggymc1990

Well SAS doesnt train seals, they have advisors at seal camps sure, but the Seals are not the equivalent to the SAS, the Special Operations Task Force is the Leader of all militaries, because it is a joint led task force, of the 4 countries allied til death... USA/England/France/Canada
