I was very fortunate to get to work as an actor in a workshop last year with Dorothy Tristan and John Hancock, the writers/director of this movie, as they are attempting to turn it into a Broadway musical. With a ton of additional music composed by the amazingly talented John Fournier, who has added many more memorable tunes to the one you are listening to now.
my brother had a bit part in this movie... at around 5:04 if you look under "Guards" in the credits, you'll see his name, Michael Luciano... he's the one who shows compassion for Nick Nolte at the beginning after he attempts suicide, the one with the mustache.... anyway, yesterday i took my close friend to his sentencing.... this is his second time.... hopefully he'll be out in 6 months.... this is heartbreaking...
...maybe is because it gives me a piece of example of what life in the slammers is like for the many unfortunated who didn't have a good family lives; and for those who are going through such hard upbringings...
"I Wanna Go Home" adds a little emotion to all of this...just listen to the lyrics ---- oh my, such a haunting tune!!!
For me, I don't have a single family member spending any time in and out anywhere, not even an over-nighter county jail; but, this flick has always catches my heart for some unknown reason...
love this, have son who has been down over 25 years and for over almost that time I have been looking for this video. Don't know why but this is very comforting. Thanks Gramainthebed
@mrschriswalken I had the soundtrack to this movie, but there was no songs. It was all instrumental. THere was a couple cool tracks like the instrumental from the beginning of the movie. But mostly, it was very dissappointing.
its amazing how this song has stuck in everyones head for so long. I too saw this when I was about 15 and catch myself whistleing the tune every now and then! :-)
First saw this when I was 17, a great film. The music has stayed in my head for so many years. Some brilliant scenes in the film. Nolte's speech before the riot, William Forsythe's "You aint shit to me",stunning acting! Thanks for posting this

Yup, back in the day when she was like 20 or so and she was hired to write songs for movies. She's a great songwriter, for sure. :-)

Melissa Etheridge wrote this song before anyone really knew who she was. I don't think she even had a record deal when she wrote this song.
