My dad was in Colombo at this time, he was tamil. He told me that he was in his garage and the sinhalese people were yelling in sinhala, '' where are you! we're gonna burn you!'' Luckily, they left. 2 days later, my dad went inside the house to check what is left, everything he had was looted, tv's....photoalbums burned.... e.t.c. I am so lucky to be alive right now. My dad made it back to Jaffna and took the flight to Canada for a better life. never forget 83, if you were a Sri Lankan tamil

for example....my grandparents kept a tamil family under their protection for about two months....

If anyone paid dearly for the 1983 riots it was the Sinhalese. The economy was hit, tourism declined, some hotels even today cannot recover the losses accumulated. The LTTE which was a small party like "Sinhala Urumaya" grew into a large army.

The 1983 was such a blessing to the LTTE that they begged for more. But the Sinhala people did not repeat their mistake. The Sinhala people have already suffered for the sins of 1983.

@josephperera Im sorry but I disagree. Their has not been a single prosecution to this day, and the persecution, injustices and crimes against humanity didnt end with Black July. Their are reports of rapes, sexual torture, abductions and murders being commited against Tamil rights activists and random civilians under the pretext of 'fighting terrorism'. And while LTTE crimes make headlines accross the country, governement and nationalist crimes go unpunished and unheard of.
