My dad was in Colombo at this time, he was tamil. He told me that he was in his garage and the sinhalese people were yelling in sinhala, '' where are you! we're gonna burn you!'' Luckily, they left. 2 days later, my dad went inside the house to check what is left, everything he had was looted, tv's....photoalbums burned.... e.t.c. I am so lucky to be alive right now. My dad made it back to Jaffna and took the flight to Canada for a better life. never forget 83, if you were a Sri Lankan tamil
being a sinhalese... i 'm really sad about our history....we admit that we didnt properly treat tamils....but however ..evry sihlaese didnot act like this(nly5%).....most of these sihnalese came to rescue tamils..
for example....my grandparents kept a tamil family under their protection for about two months....
it's time for us to forget about our past.....it is time for us to ask pardon and to forgive others.....it's our duty to look after tamil people in Sri Lanka and now we are doing it....

@sjcrox99 How can we forget the past when not a single perpetrator was brought to justice and the governement and media does everything to obscure and hide these events while they hunt down and prosecute the few victims who took up arms (not that I support the LTTE) and splash their terrorist acts all over the news in order to villafy an already victimised community? And its not just the past, the injustices and atrocities continued happening well up to 2009 but never made the headlines
This is totally deface of what had happened. This was all state sponsored by J R JAYAWARDENA and his gang of criminals.Only a handful of thugs involved in this and not the majority sinhalese.
@lionbuddies lol tamils have a way of multiplying everything by 10...when they mean 1000 you must know its 100..only about 300 has died they say 3000 but lot of shops were burned..
This is very very sad, this is the worst thing that Sinhalese has done, killing innocent Tamil people just because LTTE killed 13 Sinhalese soldiers in Jaffna, I am half Sinhalese and half Muslim and as half Sinhalese, I am deeply ashamed of what these rogues did. May the Tamils who died in this massacre, rip.
all the fools tht think the LTTE were created out of nowhere...think again...our leader created his army on the basis of the peaceful efforts of our elders...the Vaddukkodai Referendum was administered and because of the violent racist sinhala gov, we were forced to pik up arms!!! Look at wht they did to our people!!! We will gain TAMIL EELAM where our TAMIL PEOPLE will be appreciated for the precious nation we are...
If anyone paid dearly for the 1983 riots it was the Sinhalese. The economy was hit, tourism declined, some hotels even today cannot recover the losses accumulated. The LTTE which was a small party like "Sinhala Urumaya" grew into a large army.
The 1983 was such a blessing to the LTTE that they begged for more. But the Sinhala people did not repeat their mistake. The Sinhala people have already suffered for the sins of 1983.
@josephperera Im sorry but I disagree. Their has not been a single prosecution to this day, and the persecution, injustices and crimes against humanity didnt end with Black July. Their are reports of rapes, sexual torture, abductions and murders being commited against Tamil rights activists and random civilians under the pretext of 'fighting terrorism'. And while LTTE crimes make headlines accross the country, governement and nationalist crimes go unpunished and unheard of.
Once upon a time, there was a Terrorist organization called LTTE. Leader was an uneducated "Big Fat Pig" called Fuckakaran. He started a "Big Fuck" called PEELAM in Sri Lanka, in 1983 killing 13 soldiers. He killed lots of peole.
Great King Mahinda pushed a Cyanide capsule in his ass & Fucked him up 2 the throat...
