..I used to have one of those bk in the 80s, however mine had "what I thought" a leather sheet.. but it turned out to be hard preassured paper that looked like leather when it was painted black lol
However.. the one good thing that came out of it was infact the lead weights for fishing with the holes in them, as you put the line through the hole then lock it by putting a tiny wooden stick in the hole wich makes them reusable and adjustable and dont need pliers to fasten em, so thumbs on that.:)
Ive own one of these, have since I was a kid. Under stress the threads for the nut that hold the blade on can start to strip and although it didn't fully let go the blade started wobbling pretty bad. Removed it, filed it down, re-threaded it to a smaller size with a new nut with a washer under it. It's usable but still not a good knife. Also blade is hard to sharpen and doesn't hold an edge long. I keep it around for sentimental reasons. It's still better than a pointy stick....
I get what you're saying, but this knife will save your ass in a survival situation. better than nothin. It's not all about paracord and "tactical" uses. It's what do with it, it is all about your knowledge, no matter how expenisve or badass your tactical knife is it wont do the job, you must use your knowledge and sublimate it to practice. Though i agree with you at the can opener part, that one is obviously a big FAIL.
i got the same knife and my knife came with a plastic cover for the tip of the knife so it won't come through the sheath. Maybe u could use that when u go camping??
I had this knife and I got it as a child. But you were right about it being weak in the can opener part of the blade. I took it in my hands and bent it right in half no problem. In a survival situation would you really want something like this to save your life. It's more of a knife for children than anything for when they are camping
i have come across this knife and believe that it is an ok knife that needs more respect . if you just add a few modifications i believe it would do good out in the wild
request for Public Service Announcement for Cutlerylover if you have a video camera please make a video , jeff smiths hacked channel if you were a sub to him help spread the word so youtube acknowledges this crime
i got the same thing for 5$, do you have any recommendations on how to make the handle and blade sturdier. i wouldnt have to use the inside of the knife at all, so many a cement inside? let me know! thanks :)
Just in time for the holidays, Canadian Tire has these on sale for $5, the original price was $30. $5 may be still a bit too much, but I can't imagine paying $30 for this, highway robbery as they say.
Loosen up guys. Those who had one learned: some made a leather sheath, some used the compass, some sharpened, some opened pop bottles . . . . then they went to the PX and added some features and later bought the Air Force knife and now drool over the latest steel wonders!
my friend has one of these, but it wasnt cheap, its a licensed Ka-Bar actually, iit's a full tan Bowie, the sheath was made out of leather and stamped SOG or something the sheath was so damn old that the leather broke right off. that was a good knife compared to this tho.
@MrMittensKillsUsAll Beer where have you been...third world countries still have old Pepsi and Coke bottles There is nothing like cold Coke after 3 days in the bush.
Thats exactly the kind of knife my dad owned in the 80's It is junk. Note: You can remove just the ring from the compass and take out the little glass globe, keeping the contents safe inside the handle.
frankly, i love hollow handled knives, but not for use as a knife. when i come across one, i'll buy it, take it home, unscrew the bottom, and discard everything inside. once i've done that, i'll take an old broom handle, or a similar pole, and fasten the knife to it. once it's secure, it makes it a great throwing spear.
I have one of these knives I don't know where you got yours but mine from long ago came with a small plastic bottle to hold all the fishing stuff in. It's not that bad of a knife if you bring it camping it can be a knife you can beat the hell out of and not care. The stone is so-so if you use mineral oil it sharpens things. It's really cheap but it was fun back in the day when Rambo first came out to have his knife. I still have the knife after all these years and it hasn't broke yet so it must
This knife is not focused on real campers or hunters. It's a raw imitation of the Rambo Knife, but can work to star teaching a kid in the art of the wilderness. Remember, good quality cost, but last for ever.
I think the "water" inside of the "compass" is the "coolant" they used to "cut" the "metal" because it smells just like wd-40 at least mine did!!!!!!!!
Wow alot of comments are like. Quote "I will buy this just to make fun of it!" bitch please I bet u have that knife I saw this knife today and said o hell no this looks suspicious and bought a different knife that is kind of dull. also nice video this could save people money before the become a victim to this knife! Thumbs up
are knifes made in taiwan still good knifes because i got a knife made in taiwan the is half double sided that is just steet with paracord for a handle but really sharp and really strong PLZ REPLY
Lol, I had two of these knives as a kid. They are complete junk, BUT, I will say I did take it camping and as a 9 year old kid I got to use all the things in the handle and they all did work for at least a short time. I used the cable saw to cut fire wood and a long branch to use as a fishing pole. I used the hooks, line and sinkers and actually caught fish. Again, they are junk knives but for a childs first try at survival, under supervision, they arent bad for the cost
This knife reminds me of bad keyboard songs from the '80's. So many people bought these pieces of shit that it's amazing that Taiwan didn't take over the world... and yeah, I had one, LOL!!! It was a piece of shit, the compass didn't work, the sheath was crap, and everything in the handle was crap including the compass (which never worked). :)

@thenegev77 I was actually refering to the video that came out in the eightys i already own an ontario sp1 which is about the same but im saving for a TOPS Bravo 51. In no way was i being serious
I got one of them when i was 8 i don't remember what ever happened to it but yeah it was and still is a piece of garbage but when i first got it i remember thinking i was bad ass LOL
I have one of these. Good for jobs in the garden that need a knife I don't care about chipping or scratching lol. Hate the handles through, bad grip and just slip around in my hand. Had to put ome rubber on it.
This brings back so many memories. I remember seeing the infomercials as a kid and my brother and me saving our money so we could "call now to receive a special gift."
Even without knowing much about knives, we soon figured out it was crap. Only thing the knife was good for was bruising. We did have a little fun sawing tree limbs with the wire saw, though.
Man, I wish I knew where that thing was. Very crappy, but we thought we were cool.
i have the same knife, and that stone is a sharpener. i only use it for that knife. it makes the blade sharper on that one, but ruins alll of my other knifes
also another thing about this knock off knife is that any false leather wanna b material or actual leathe in humid conditions it sweats and makes the blade rust just a fyi
I bought one of these when I was a kid. I tried to go bushwacking with it, making shelters, fishing poles, cutting up sticks for firewood. It was a good thing I didn't spend a lot of money on it, as it was not good steel. Tried to use the saw, but I discovered it wasn't good for sawing notches. The survival kit in the handle was terrible. Buck makes a decent knife out of 420 stainless, the "119 special", and you can get it at Canadian Tire or Walmart for about $50. Better deal...
inside its a paperclip instead of a wire saw.. wtf... so i replaced the shit with my own survival kit
the compass is still there but seriously when in your life are you going to carry this knife in public and bang bitches across the head with it?.. sheath is LEATHER now not VYNIL the straps are more secure (version i got) and the knife metal is black
any ways y u need a bottle opener in the middle of no where i mean make belive ur in the middle of the jungle only with this knife no bottles around stupid knife hu right]
I had one of those when i was a kid and i hated it even then. But i did find a use for the stone,i broke the tip on my sykes-fairburne in the army and use the stone to make a new tip on it.But thats the only good use i got from anything on that knife.I'm not a fan of survivalknifes in general,i like to keep my knife and survivalkit separate.Actually i got a spare knife in the kit.
Vidal i found this is this the video thats ur and joes secrate video oh and i dont think its a good knife i bought cause it was very cheap and i didnt know that ur freind had a glock knife or a kabar or that i thought it was better also its a diffrent knife
hahaha my friend has this knife and he thinks its the best knife out there! He thinks that this knife is better than my other friends glock 81 and ka-bar
I nearly laughed myself to tears when you said that the compass is something you'd expect to find on your grandfather's dashboard. My grandpa and I used to take long cross country trips and the thing I remember the most about the drive is that huge water filled globe compass on his dash. But yeah, crap knife. I got myself a Ka-Bar Becker BK9. Aside from a sleight problem with the grip bolts loosening, the thing is a dream.
@GearBuyersGuide hey man ill give u my address send that knife to me..ill take it..give it to me..i use cheap knives for deer hunting..i can make a new sheath for it
What are your thoughts on the GERBER - Steadfast? I know Bear Grillis mentioned it in a behind the scenes show but I dont know if he did it beacause it is actually good or for marketing purposes. And finally, what are your thoughts on the Buck Special hunting knife? I'm thinking of getting one. I appreciate your vids btw! good job!
i have the same knife and mines been through hell and back and its still a great knife mine came with a leather sheath and a tube for all the goodies in the handle .. ill make a vid
The matches are "wrapped in a monkey". That almost made me LOL.
Ugh. You're expecting the survival kit to be in a capsule? For the lead weights to be secured somehow? For the matches to be quality? It's a ten dollar knife and they *clearly* spent the bulk of that on the [echo effect]420 MOLECULAR STAINLESS STEEL BLADE [/echo effect] I think the nut that held that thing together was the guy who designed it. LOL
LOL! I just watched the old TV ad for this knife (there it is in the list of suggestions to the right). It came with a free "multipurpose sportsman's knife". That ad is almost painful to watch.
Okay, so the stone's in a kydex-like pouch and the blade goes in a flimsy, vinyl sheath. Kinda says what the company thought about the likelihood of that knife ever actually cutting anything.
BTW, the retaining strap on the Becker (Kabar version) BK-2 sheath rotates like that. ;)
I still have mine. The blade is rusted, the compass is gone. (I removed it, so the end of handle could be a hammer) the blade swivels on the handle. But the sheath is still good. I got it when I was 12. I'm 36 now. Back then, it was the ultimate is combat survival.....For a 12 year old boy.....Who lived in the suburbs.
haha omg i remember these in the 80's, in every air gun magazine & newspaper too order i think some were as much as £30 but most were around £15 or £20 back in 1982 ish a lot of money back then for a load of crap, lol
as a 12 year old though, i wanted one i liked the camo version
About the "stab into something and the blade'll break if u turned it" thing. What about the type of Kris styled blades. y'know those wavy kinds. wouldnt they have the same effect?
this realy is a decent knife for the price. i paid $5 for it and an extra $3 for a hard shell sheath. all the contents of the survival kit are excellent to use, and are very usefull. and the compass is extremely acurate. the only problem i see with the knife in the video is the sheath.he is right about not being able to use the handle as a hammer. but if it was the only thing i had to use if i was lost somewhere. i would be proud of it.
@EnforcerAirsoft i got one of those back in juniors high, a friend of mine gave it to me, and on the very first day of use, i tried to nail de tip in to the wood and it bent. that day i throwed it away, it was garbage. and its the same knife that we actually see on the video
i got three of these knives for $7.96 each.two same as this one and the other same but is camouflaged.got another but is 100 times better and it was only $20.one more and it was $25 its a navy seals survival knife.so i love collecting these too.
hi i have an army knife it has a good handle blade length and a 2 way sharpended saw. its 20 years old stainless steel. pretty sharp. but i would wanna now if its good for hiking. we have bears, cougars, linx, and pretty mutch anything thatll kill u so ijust wanna now if its a good knife i can make a vid and show u if u want me to i just wanna be safe.
I got one of these in "camouflage" when I was kid back in the late 80s. I was pretty excited at the time until it fell apart little by little. A blob of silcone caulk kept the nut in the handle from working lose and duct tape held that hideous sheath (which did actually wear through and stab me in the leg) together. A sharp stick probably has more potential as a survival aid than this thing. Great video. Thanks for this blast from the past.
Haha, you were talking about how this is a junky knife, then you said "We're looking at a piece of 'Sheath'.." i could hae sworn you said 'We're looking at a piece of Sh**". lol. great vid! keep it up.
If thats all u had in da amazon u would sukk the knifes dick all day..poor knife

the compass is still there but seriously when in your life are you going to carry this knife in public and bang bitches across the head with it?.. sheath is LEATHER now not VYNIL the straps are more secure (version i got) and the knife metal is black

Aside from a sleight problem with the grip bolts loosening, the thing is a dream.

the coumpus should be inside the cap so if u drop the knife u wont brake the coumpus ..

Good grief! At least get a $15 gerber and make a decent cigarette case survival kit.
marky2112 1 year ago
What are your thoughts on the GERBER - Steadfast? I know Bear Grillis mentioned it in a behind the scenes show but I dont know if he did it beacause it is actually good or for marketing purposes. And finally, what are your thoughts on the Buck Special hunting knife? I'm thinking of getting one. I appreciate your vids btw! good job!

LOL
CanItAlready 1 year ago
BTW, the retaining strap on the Becker (Kabar version) BK-2 sheath rotates like that. ;)

Actually I don't think the saw is a wood saw.
Most people don't know what the saw on the back of the blade is for.
I believe the original use for the saw was to cut through the metal skin of an aeroplane.
The idea was that if the plane was going down you could create your own escape door.

I still have mine. The blade is rusted, the compass is gone. (I removed it, so the end of handle could be a hammer) the blade swivels on the handle. But the sheath is still good. I got it when I was 12. I'm 36 now. Back then, it was the ultimate is combat survival.....For a 12 year old boy.....Who lived in the suburbs.

darkheart6377 1 year ago
haha omg i remember these in the 80's, in every air gun magazine & newspaper too order i think some were as much as £30 but most were around £15 or £20 back in 1982 ish a lot of money back then for a load of crap, lol
as a 12 year old though, i wanted one i liked the camo version

About the "stab into something and the blade'll break if u turned it" thing. What about the type of Kris styled blades. y'know those wavy kinds. wouldnt they have the same effect?
TheFencer8089 1 year ago
this realy is a decent knife for the price. i paid $5 for it and an extra $3 for a hard shell sheath. all the contents of the survival kit are excellent to use, and are very usefull. and the compass is extremely acurate. the only problem i see with the knife in the video is the sheath.he is right about not being able to use the handle as a hammer. but if it was the only thing i had to use if i was lost somewhere. i would be proud of it.
EnforcerAirsoft 1 year ago
@EnforcerAirsoft i got one of those back in juniors high, a friend of mine gave it to me, and on the very first day of use, i tried to nail de tip in to the wood and it bent. that day i throwed it away, it was garbage. and its the same knife that we actually see on the video
