Also the different clocks on cpu's... Cpu's are binned, cpu's from the same platter can end up being sold at different clock speeds despite them being made, spec wise identical on paper. A cpu that produces more heat, or can only achieve stability at lower clocks is going to be sold at a lower stock clock speed, and ones that produce less heat and can reach higher clocks at a specified voltage will sell at higher clock speeds.
Like Spliffer45 said, turbo boost is not overclocking.
Overclocking is the capability to change the clock of your CPU as desired, not as preset by the CPU's manufacture. Macintosh computers do not have overclocking capability, the Intel CPU they use automatically adjusts specific cores between set frequencies. In no way can you change what the set frequency of the CPU with a Mac Pro, therefore it is not overclocking.
you should check out LGA 755 idk about overclocking but it has masive cach and it is really cheap from a 3.0Ghz processor you have like 16Mbs of cach i think i saw like 24Mbs (dont quote me on that) and that is like maybe 100$ and thay are built for servers so you know you can have like 2-4 of thows suckers in your pc witch is like having 4 of the most powerful mac's in one pc
I'm not sure why Macward thinks it's stupid to overclock, if you can buy a cheaper CPU and overclock it to match the performance of a more expensive CPU, then you saved yourself money. I agree the performance difference between a 2.66Ghz and a 2.93Ghz is very small, certainly not worth $500.
cool vid, the turbo performance though while it overclocks, it is really designed for single threads execution basically on non-multithreaded apps that do not use the other cores, those cores shut down.
ahh I see, thats kinda weird tho, why only take advantage of the CPUs head room for only one core, the Xeons in the Mac Pros have massive heat sinks and I mean massive, and the fans don't go down a different rout either, I'm sure they will remain stable.
right click on the taskbar, select Properties, and then change taskbar buttons from "Always combine, hide labels" "to Combine when the taskbar is full" or "never combine"
I like the fact i bought a E7500 (2.93Ghz) and overclocked it to 3.66Ghz, made me happy that i payed for a lesser product and got more out of it.
And why is it you're the only one who makes the 1 shot kill responses haha :) Through this whole debate no one thought to put it like you did, keep it up man! Also, whats your opinion on DX11? think it'll be another DX10?

That's cool with the Mac Pros. But I'd rather get a PC and save myself a few hundred, or even a thousand dollars.
