How kool! I didn't realize this little amp has so much potential.. I've been play'n one just like it for years and mine hasn't made those sounds yet... thats some clean pick'n man. Nice.
@sementalinchains You need to spray contact cleaner into all the jack plugs and push a lead in several times to clean them out. There should be four at the rear, and two at the front (effect send/return). These are quite remarkable amps.
When I first bought this amp when it came out I loved it! Set it to the suggested heavy metal settings and sounded just like an eighties band!! Over the years I've come to feel that the distortion channel is a little to tinny though (we would call it the old tin can)
Great amp though, I still use it quite often (most venues don't need my marshall stack :)
However these days I just use the clean channel with a monster home made pedalboard !
The lead tone is OK but the bass notes have no bottom end at all. the playing is very good. Turn the mids up a little bit and back off the gain a bit.
I bought a Bandit from a pawnshop last year. I think it's of your series - mid 80s. But there is far too much noise from it on the dirty channel and it's far too loud. I'm starting to think the amp needs reparing - shame, as you got a fantastic tone out of it!
Dude sweet Vid you can produce some KILLER Tones from this Amp! I have the same Bandit (Teal Stripe) from the 90's W/The Scorpion in it. GOD I LOVE THIS AMP!!!! IT HAS & ALWAYS WILL KICK SOME MAJOR ASS!!! Take It Easy......
exellent. This vid told me exactly what I need to know. I have the Peavey Supreme 160 head, and I wanted to know if this amp (since it has all the same controls and It looks exactly the same) sounded exactly the same so I could take this around to my friends hoeses to jam with so I wouldnt need to lug my head and my enormous cabinet around everywhere. Exellent playing as well man, you are great at guitar, never quit. Oh, and another thing. we use the EXACT same settings :)
@ZachVanHalen Well this amp actually sounds very trash metal, so I'll tell you my settings and hope this help you to get a nice sound.
I plug my guitar into the "low gain jack" because has more clear distortion, ok then I set the "supersat knob" at 7 (don't forget my guitar has an active pick up EMG). "Bottom" 9, "Body" 0, "Edge" 9, and Reverv 0.
This settings are just ok to the tone of my guitar so I don't believe that it'll work so well in all guitars.
@ghost1536 Hi, I get the distortion putting the amp in the dirty channel turning down the "channel button" in the left part of the amp (side under the Bright button). Then I turn to 6 or 7 the gain knob (called "Supersat") in the sector of "lead gain", and there you got the amazing distortion!
The Peavey Classic it's a really great amp but actually it's not so good if you want metal sounds, this amp is for Rock or blues, except if you use it with a lot gain distortion pedal, but personally I don't like metal distortion pedals, they are so artificially and noisy. A cool dist pedal is the DS-1or the DS-2 from Boss but their sounds like Nirvana stuff (don't buy the metal zone, it's horrible). I recommend to you the Peavey Bandit 112, it's not expensive and work just fine and so reliable!
@Joeybonnert, even without tubes? because I could just getmy True bbypass ibanez Ts7 and crank it up with gain n volume on pedal n scoop the mids on the classic and get the 2 channels jumped like a marshall.
@InFuriatedShadows Yes, you could do that absolutely even when this pedal it's kinda bluesy you could use it to level up the gain in the crunch chanel of the Classic 50. Has it 2x12 or 4x10 speakers?
This amps is PERFECT for metal! It's like it was designed for that style particularly, has a distortion so defined when you put the mids up, it's a great amp even although it's transistorized, but you get so wanderful tones in the line of metal music. In high volume it's a beast, I use it with my band and it stand out from the rest so easily and it putting down the "great" Marshall valvestate 8080 from the other guitarrist that it's in my band too. Cheers and buy this awesome amp!!
@Joeybonnert, aye man, I saw this amp on craigslist again, what do you think I should get, a Marshall vavlestate or this? I'm looking for a GOOD clean channel and a Bass heavy distortion with some mids scooped
@InFuriatedShadows Yes that's right, but the amp sound like that because it was filmed with a digital camera and it doesn't take the bass frequency of it (plus the low quality youtube video), but I ensure you this amp has more bass than you really need, I actually use the dirty channel with the knob bass at 9 (with a 15 max), and if you put the volume at 3!! it blows your head away!! Trust me and try one, it won't desappoint you!

what effects did you use for this video?
utubemanx 1 year ago
@utubemanx I used just a little bit of delay from a digital delay, an Ibanez PT-3 Powertrio from the 90's, only this effect and nothing more.

Should I buy an old Peavey Classic (50 watt) instead? It's got tubes and I can jumper the 2 channels normal and bright like an old marshall

@Joeybonnert, 2x12, but it doesnt have 2 channels. it has 4 inputs that you ahve to jumper. It's not the new one.
