The Bank Dick was actually transmitted on Channel 4 on Sunday 16th March 1986 at 3.55 pm if it helps. I originally thought it was an ad break from one of those weekday post-News at One films in one of the ITV regions.
Good adverts from a quarter of a century ago including the Carlsberg one. General Accident was an insurance policy company and is well known for sponsoring Newmarket's 2000 and 1000 Guineas during the 1980s and early 1990s.
Great stuff! I especially enjoyed the Batchelors Cup-a-Soup ad. It's always interesting to see products with different names than their American counterparts using the same jingle. Also interesting how well the longer names (e.g. Lipton:Batchelors, Marathon:Snickers) fit into the music. Maybe the songs were co-opted by America rather than the other way 'round, or maybe the ad agencies were instructed to write them to allow for differing numbers of syllables?

I actually prefer commercials back then becuase you never had any of those annoying sponsors. Now they just dominate the tv!

"Dime" becoming "Daim" is even worse than Marathon becoming Snickers.

@Applemask Daim is the real name though, Daim bar was Swedish. So we've just got the Swedish name now.
Although it does seem strange in English.

I used to eat Start before going to school in the morning! Didn't make me any more sporty though.
On a side note, 3:05... That guy needs to see a doctor. Fast.

That Start ad looks like the work of the Art of Noise, though I never could stand Steve Cram, arrogant sod!

Good grief, the General Accident logo looks old. Quite 1959-ish, even.
