@CrAcK123Cr I will be making a part 3 as soon as I can be bothered. Well, I already did make a part 3, but the audio quality was so shite I didn't upload it.
I heard something about defraging too often can be bad for the computer because the harddrive or something else will be scattered but I don't what is too often
i have a total of 100 mb and your stupid little defragger has used 10 mb of space and its only half way through..... if this fucks up my computer your responsible.....
After dergagging the page file as you recommend,it leaves the sections of the old page file in red (fragmented) and adds a new oange set when the page file is switched back on.
After many defrags the fragmented files do not reduce.
This is on a farily new install onto a raid 0 aay.
Whats that all about as now i cant loose 5gb of fragmented files that werent there before the page file defrag pocedure of yours i followed.
@64bitbrain If your page file is contiguous (defragmented), you'll see a single orange/brown bar. This is Defraggler's colour for page files (which it can't defragment without turning your computer off). Red colours are other files that are fragmented.
If Defraggler isn't performing quite as well as you hoped, try alternatives such as JK Defrag or the inbuilt Windows one.
The issue is not that Defraggler is not performing aswell as i had hope, its that the process you advised has given me these 6gb (12%) of fragmented files i cant get rid of. Over 5gb of this of 1 file called hiberfil.sys which was like it before. A few other random files to. Never has my drive been so rough. Now im stuck with it unless i do a complete reinstall of windows after a format a reRAID. A full blow nightmare !!!
@64bitbrain Okay, one more thing you can try is to make Defraggler do a boot-time run. Then it has access to all the system files, including hiberfil.sys - the hibernation cache - and pagefile.sys. [Settings => Boot Time Defrag => Run Once]
If this does not fix your problem, maybe Defraggler isn't brilliant for RAID arrays? It's only a suggestion; any defrag utility will do the job - some better than others.
@64bitbrain The hiberfil.sys has nothing to do with the pagefile. It has to do with your hibernation. But you cant just delete it. There are alot of tutorials on how to delete it on youtube so go search it up! It worked fine for me!
I always clean everything. I never leave any form of history on my computer. Also, try downloading a program called CCEnhancer. It adds more cleaning options to CCleaner.
@SkyMinersPro Yeah, about Part 3... when I got this new motherboard, the microphone quality sucked so hard that I abandoned this project. I suppose once my new one comes through in a few days I'll start making them again.
Hey, if I do not complete the de-fragmentation process, does it affect the computer in anyway? (For example I stop the de-fragmentation when it is at 70%)
@FixThePC alright i defragged it overnight but when i woke up in the morning it looked the same. disk C didnt have alot of red but took a long time. disk D maybe 90% red. disk D also went to 99% fast but then took a long time from there. also thank you you are very helpful.
@dragonode1 You don't have to do that step at all, but it's useful.
The page file is a temporary storage location in Windows. Keeping it as a single fragment aids the reading/writing process, so temporary data can be handled quicker.
@J03Y20 Yes, if you click the 'Analyse' button, then it'll quickly scan the disk and show you the rough composition. Try and get as little red as possible.
Defragmenting does not affect your usage of the computer. It is a background task and wont stop you from using things while its running. Obviously, the less you move on he hard drive while you run, the better chance it has. This means you can stop/pause it at any time.

1.
Im aware. After following your procedure i have 6gb of fragmented files that i cant get rid of.
After defragging, turning of the page file, defragging and turning it back on, the original page file left its size in defragged files (red)
and placed a new orange set for the switched back on page file.
After repeating the process as you advise, it again turned the page file into fragmented files doubling the fragmented section and addin a new
orange set for the pfile.

After repeating the process as you advise, it again turned the page file into fragmented files doubling the fragmented section and addin a new

(over 6gb) of my new windows 7 install onto RAID 0.

All i have installed is windows, some drivers, TuneUp Utilities and Battlefield 3.
I have used TuneUp to defrag for years and its set to auto every 3 days so i never have a fragmented system drive. Since following your guide i
now have 6gb of fragmeted files i cant get rid of. TuneUp also will not loose them for me.

qwertyaderp 6 months ago
@qwertyaderp Heh, yeah. Defragging can take some time. Once I had a computer so bad, it took 2 days to defrag.
You have only to blame your computer vendor for not defragging it before shipment (something I always stick to myself).
