  • @robbycheermichael

The pyramids can still be done. Just not with the current cheer organizations. Exhibition acro can do this on stage.

  • I am glad cheerleaing have evolved since then. I would not be able to stay awake during this. So boring, my goodness, however, its nice see what cheerleading was.

  • I love it. There is plenty to be pulled from this for today cheerleading. Lots can be learned. would love to see cheerleaders slow the pace down again. You really get to see the builds. Love the Uniforms. The Fall to the Ground at 3:04sec was the best.

  • gooooootta love the bacon sizzle at 3:03

i think louisville should throw that in this year. just as a throwback to good old 84 and see how people react.

  • That would be interesting to find out.

  • haha...go james speed!! funny to see the now coach in action. my mom actually has the entire competition from this. this is what started it all. and yes they did harder stuff then-- trampolines and such. no spotters. the rules have changed because of them.

  • allycat, I would love to hear from your mother. Thank her for me.

  • wow the year i was born.......that was sooo cheesy

  • that is nothin like today lol very funny

  • lol

  • Rafaelarango,

I just saw the Devil's All Stars from Columbia. Really tight group. Thanks for the tip.

  • wow it's so cool to see what cheerleading was then and how it has evolved to what it is today...i can't wait to see how much more advanced it will get.I've noticed that cheerleaders are finally starting to earn some respect.

  • It is also becoming more international. I have heard from cheerleaders in other countries, which surprised me because it is basically an American invention.

  • yes infact im from colombia southamerica and now its a national sport !!! checkout on youtube , try colombia cheerleading ^^

  • their sooooo energetic

  • I must pay homage to my UofL cheer alum...way to go. If you all didn't start the fire that's still burning...there wouldn't be a legacy... Watching UofL cheer while growing up is what made me want to be and to become a UofL cheerleader!

  • These videos have been posted to encourage current cheer leaders to remember and USE what you can according to current rules. Spread the word.

  • wow, this is crazy, it's amazing to see how far cheering has come.

  • Thank you. What a great way to put it. So am I.

  • even the best back in 80's!!

  • Thanks. They were great!

  • im glad my national championships were so much cooler then that..... wow i know they are alumni but i am so glad it changed to what it is now....back to back to back to back to back to back!!!!! 03-04-05-06-07-08

  • Amazing!!! So creative and fun to watch!! Much riskier pyramids back then. Cheerleading has really changed sine then..

  • Yes, it has changed, and I hope these videos will remind people of what can be done.

  • That was hot lol. What the hell has happened to cheerleading these days?

  • Lawsuits happened. Cheerleaders had too many catastrophic injuries due to improper training. Coaches came into the industry who did not know proper progressions, so the organizers (also named in suits) eliminated stunts.

  • what do you mean? Stunts have got even more advanced since then and those stunts are still used today.

  • yeah.. theyre great.. but obviously.. you know what I mean..

  • LMFAO!!! OMG i have never laughed so hard in my life!! HAHAHHAA

  • Thank you, so do I. Please tell your friends to watch these videos.

  • i absolutely love these 80's cheer teams!!!!

  • I am glad you are happy with today's cheerleading. However, I disagree with your point about larger base groups. I have taught acrobatics for 30 years, and younger kids can do larger pyramids if properly trained. The industry dropped these skills because of lawsuits, since they were not seeing to it that kids were properly trained. They took the easy way out.

  • I think the larger base groups is because as kids are getting younger as they start it avoids straining their bodies too much with crazy stunts like this. It's a good video but i think tumbling and baskets etc have improved cheerleading :)

  • wow louisvlle have came along way!! now thier one of the top cheer progrems in the country

  • Thanks for that info, I did not know that.

  • wow those were some HIG pyramids....did they win?

  • I don't know if they won.

  • Thank God cheerleading has changed!

  • Your comment is the first to think that cheerleading is better today. That would depend on your goals. If one wants to cheer for a team, all the shows are wrong. But if you are putting on an acrobatic dance show, then the past was more entertaining.

  • ahahah i agree this is soo freaking boring.

now cheerleading is much more complex.

  • that song that sounds like prince about being a star was in their music this year...weird

  • OMG!!!!!! This is what my aunts used to do. I love it!

  • i love your videos... where did you get them?

  • I am an acrobatic coach of 30 years. I have been taping all kinds of acro during that time. I lost interest in cheerleading during the 90's when it became so boring.

  • lol, have you seen what cheerleading has changed into thes days ? it was funny to watch this, that 2-1-1 heel stretch was so cool at 3 levels

  • Yes, I have. Pyramids of the 90's and 2000 look like cypress trees in the swamps of Florida. Gigantic bases (with all the spotters crowded around the bottom) with spindly little tops (one child on top in a heel stretch). They have lost sight of what great designs can be made in pyramids.

  • Oh... humm.. there are different categories now and different styles on cheerleading, so we do stuff like transitions, mix tumbling with stunts. etc. etc. i think you got stuck with one image about cheerleading, anyways my comment wasnt trying to be grumpy or anything, i get the feeling that you tought that =) (altho yeah haha there are still some of thos huge bases and tiny toppers)

  • My point of view is acrobatics. Yes, there are many categories, but because of liabilities, the various organizations hosting competitions have restricted what can be done acrobatically. It is from this point of view I regret the changes in cheerleading.

  • times have changed, haven't they?

  • that was the awesomest strangest thing ever lol

  • Thanks. I personally prefer the High School kids from '84. It has been awhile since I have seen collegiates, so this may be better than today.

  • Amazing! loved it :)
