You don't actually see a ball entering the machine. if you slow-mo the play it is going very very slowly, like an underarm throw. you dont actually know whether it is a blindfold. It looks like one... if he missed it then it wouldn't look impressive for the brand would it? The trajectory of the ball afterwards is too similar. It is partially truthful, the intention of the video is for us to recognise Brylcream's association though

It isn't real at all, you never see a ball enter the shot, and the bat noise is the same every time, which has been dubbed over after filming... the only time you see a ball is conveniently when the stump gets knocked over (the beginning - to make you believe it is real), and when the brylcream ball explodes (the product).

I don't think this is fake. Because the machine is set to be very fast, Pietersen knows he needs to play his stroke as soon as he hears the sound that denotes the ball being released. It will also land in exactly the same spot every time, so he just needed to practice where his foot had to land. Reckless to smash the ball at people's properties though.

Two things: as a top-level cricketer he's faced thousands of balls in the nets, and also probably faced a bowling machine a lot. Once you get used to facing a bowling machine, you almost get it muscle memorized and you can tell from when you hear it released to how fast it's coming. It's quite an incredible ability. I think the last full toss he hit was really the best, because all the previous ones were pretty much the same line and length.
