I was in the 4/60th both A Btry and C Btry. from 1968-69. Charlie didn't like us very much. Seems like only yesterday we were there raising hell. Took training at Ft. Bliss under Major Goodyear. Lots of my buddies went to the 1/44th up north. Never saw them again. Welcome Home brothers.
I was in the Fl Nat Guard and crewed the M42 from 1985-1987 at camp blanding. I love this machine, fun to fire and drive. Wish I could buy one that works now. little joe.
Once I had four of these babies in Kinmen Island in '90s. They were running, and we had to fire them 20 each canon, every 3 months. Taiwan army retired them about 10 years ago. So much memory...
@1119dave these were originally replaced by the VADS, vulcan air defense system, then they basically became obsolete as enemy aircraft developed in the jet age as high flying fast movers. The bradley was originally designed to replace the M113 APC as a dedicated infantry fighting vehicle.
Thank you for this vid, very well done. It seems strange when you visit some of these vehicles now, especially outside when it's quiet, like they're just sitting there as mute testimony to what they used to be, and what they used to do long ago.
Speaking of the M42, is this vehicle still in use anywhere? I heard it's possibly still in use by some countries in Central and South America, but not sure.
I think we should be using these in afghanistan, transportable, armored, mobile, and devastating and versatile weapon would add lots of cheap cave-blasting firepower.
THIS machine was just so awesome in battle I can't tell you. I saw it use at the Perfume river, and the NVA took ONE look at it coming from behind a building, stopped dead in their tracks, and went back to the treeline.

I trained on these at Fort Bliss in 1978. I was a member of the Ohio National Guard. Fun to drive and shoot.

The Dusters were awesome, I was a cannoneer and 60 gunner in the National Guard in the mid 80's, they were phased out for Stingers and Vulcans.

Can anyone tell me whats the function of the appendages infront of the muzzles? are they some type of break?

@KOGR11 Dissipates the flash a little bit. I think its probably to help the gunner maintain visibility.

@F4Wildcat
Why not an APC so you can sleep comfortably @ night inside and have high mobility if needed. Not like zombies will be running around with AT weapons.

Dusters were an awesome weapon, 240 rounds a min. You wouldn't want to be on the receiving end. I served on these in Vietnam at Dong Ha, 1/44 69, 70.
