Definitely one of the more impressive shooters on the NES... the first time I saw some of the graphic effects, even my graphics-whore boyfriend was impressed, and he never says that about anything that came out before the PS2 ;)

I just played this game for the first time yestreday on a vintage Famicom (Not NES, Japanese Famicom).

It was pretty goddamn awesome, to say the least.

Fucking Final Boss, though.

I'd start with the store over at risingstuff (go to risingstuff site and click store at the top). They are a very good store located in Japan and the owners are English speakers. If they don't have it in stock, write to them and they can usually find it. Shipping is not cheap from them though as it's coming from Japan directly but the store there is very reliable.

Yes. What you described (top-down view) is a vertical scrolling shooter, the side-view thing is called a horizontal scrolling shooter.
