Have already seeing your future concept of Arklow happen in many towns around Ireland where big retailers lure the custom out of the main streets.. People should study the true cost of large retail savings, remember it is our friends, family and neighbours that are being both employed and supported by the small business's that are the back bone of Irish society. Hopefully the good people of Arklow will continue to trade along the main st and not let it turn into a ghost town.............. Liam S

I also think that the Arklow Chamber of Commerce are by far the worst and probably the most uneducated group of people I have ever come across.
personally i think the town council in conjuction with the county council needs to hire an economist/marketing expert to help deal with the situation. i dont understand how the ormonde hall, marine hotel, the old dunnes shop are allowed to remain vacant like that. something has to be done. i'm no expert but maybe someone has an idea or two. i think instead of focusing on the drug/drink problems in town we should focus on gettin people jobs so they wont feel the need to drown their sorrows
Does anyone have any constructive ideas on how to help build the town back up? its seems some landlords are content with allowin their premises to remain vacant then lowering the rents. in stead of complainin maybe someone can suggest somethin constructive to help pull our town out of this recession. arklow used to be a centre of industry, shippin, pottery, etc. but now we through our money at any foreign business that offers cheap goods. support your families support your town. buy local.

Small local businesses might be a bit more expensive, but much of the money spend in them stays in the town and goes round and round. .
I still shop a lot on main street - specially for gifts and things but God Bless TK Maxx!! We seriously needed somewhere that offered us a bit of choice. The fact that we can now do everything in Arklow instead of having to go to Dublin anytime you wanted a special outfit or a gift for a child is only a positive thing. All the decent shops are still up and running in Main Street. If you provide a good service for a fair price you will always have customers.
