You almost turned everything into airs! Not entirely sure what I think. But always nice to see more people do it! I'm having a hell of a time learning that middle tune on guitar.
Ok perhaps harsh, But whats with the speed, its cruel. I can't believe anybody with a good musical ear could possibly think its ok to play tunes in that manner, therefore i come to the conclusion that its is mechanical. These tunes are to be played slowly with ornmentation and feeling, rather than sawing your way through the lot of them. this may be critism but its constructive if it makes you a better player with more respect or the tradition your playing
@johneire31 Hey now, that's not fair. You shouldn't tell someone to give up over a single video! Are you a fiddler? You should be encouraging people, jeez.
Jez42, you've got you're own style, keep it up! The double stops are cool =)
For the record, i recognise that playing at the speed of light is not the best way to demonstrate a tune. This was recorded more than a year ago, and in that time I've gotten better as a player. And got a hair cut. But i still have the shirt.
Played at that speed, probably right. Kind of obscures the tune, doesn't it. Saying that, its more indicative of my style of playing not to stick too closely to any particular tradition's conventions of ornamentation.
I would say somewhere between 10 and 13 years by now, but only about 4 1/2 of those have been playing folk. You'd think i'd be a bit better than this, given all that time.
this has to be the best set ever! i love these songs played toghter.. im trying to get my computer to work right so i can get a vidio of Alasdair fraser playing that set at a concet of his i just went to.
sounds great! i actually really like calliope down the fifth..
Hey there. Calliope House and MacArthur Road are both written by Dave Richardson from 'The Boys of the Lough'. Frank's Reel was written by John McCusker. Great tunes!
Awesome!

You are in a good way, just stop the double spots. Try to play more simple.

omg yes some else plays with there bow close to the finger boad im always getting hasled bout that
xheartwithaslash 3 years ago
There's nothing wrong with that. Least not in my opinion. It just makes it sound more mellow, which is easier to listen to most of the time.

Nice! They sound nice a fifth down - just a quick point though, the first one is a Jig, not a reel.
