I have a cassette tape that was recorded live from German radio and it was broadcast over German tv at the same time. Sort of like being at the concert. ZZ Topp opened for The Who. I believe it was 1981 and that's why I looked at this video. Not sure if this is the concert that I recorded from that time. It was the first time I had ever seen or heard of ZZ Topp. They had the long beards at the time.
Pete playing his Schecter "PT" as in Pete Townsend...Telebody style, soap bars humbucking, push pull controlls...I have one I bought as a then Kit guitar great sound and TONE.
An ode to the working class, For four guys also born with plastic spoons in their mouths, they sure did good for themselves. They stayed true to their art.
Find your calling, whatever it may be and run like hell with it.
The best cocernt I've ever witnessed in my life was The Who is Frankfult at the Festhalle in 1980. This song was the opening song and it KICKED ASS. Their light show was awesome but they were still in their primes and what was so special about it was their stage presence and the way Pete jumped about and rose up into the air! Man, what a show!!!
@Kornfogel "Pete Townsend planned to kill himself via an electric cable. Have you known that???"
I just read in the book by Rock Scully that Jerry Garcia and he found Townsend distraught after the concert and cheered him (sort of) up by taking acid together. "Living with the Dead", by Rock Scully.
@Kornfogel I saw it live on TV. Pete had snorted a ton of coke and downed quite a large amount of Brandy that night. He was definitely on the edge. Later on in this tour he was pulled out of a dumpster by a Policeman ( I think) while he was away with the fairies to say the least. The reason for wanting to end it all was simply because he'd had enough of touring.
