The germans under the nazi regime deserved what they got from the Russians. I would never accuse the russians for the acts they comitted on german soil. If you knew how many people the germans massacred, you would never go so far as to say the russians were the bad guys. I think that after seeing your whole family killed, and your countrymen dead in mass graves, you'd want a little revenge, right? If you don't you're just a flat out liar.

Would you accept such a rationalization if the women of your country were so treated by soldiers of a country wronged by your government? Ancient emnities? I think this is a dangerous misrepresentation of history. The worst conflicts between croats and serbs were almost exclusively restricted to the 20th century. Also, I dislike the how some historians don't know the difference between different communist and socialist states. It's all one communism to them.

Gotta feel so for some of this countries as the Nazis were falling back and the Iron Curtain fell on them. Thankfully Greece and my ancestors never fell under those Communist rats after WW2 but so many others did. Soviet troops were animals, commiting rapes on innocent women and their depravity shows no bounds.

@silentghost23 Though 2 wrongs do not make it right, you do realize that the red army had crossed there own territory where they found that the Germans had not just raped women, but had completely eradicated and genocided millions of Russian civilians, man, woman, and children? That is no exuse to rape, but it could have been far worse if given more time to exact revenge.

I dont think Poland, Yugoslavia, Romania, etc was their own territorry before the war started. Theres no denying the crimes the Nazis committed but after the war, the Soviet Union was the only benefactor. A country like Poland for example, which Great Britain and France declared war on Germany for was just given to the Soviets so Poland had to trade one oppression for another.

@silentghost23 I meant that when the Nazis invaded the western frontier of the Soviet Union, east of Poland, Hungary, and Romania, they were ordered to exterminate populations because they didn't have enough garrison troops to keep the peace in the vast conquered territories. As the Red Army liberated their territories they found the mass graves and piles of bodies of their genocided countrymen/women/children. After seeing what had been done, rape may have been a light revenge.

I guess the ancient hatred refers to the differences of opinion between the Catholic church and the various Orthodox churches regarding a few points in Christianity which couldn't be agreed on. The Croats and Serbs didn't start fighting each other until the 20th century. This fighting was mainly over land.

Serbs hated the turks which i guess would be normal after 500 years under their rule but the muslims in yougoslavia at that time aren't turks they are slavs that changed religion during ottoman rule. And i mean realy which war in history started over religion? Not one its always either money land assets never religion even the crusades werent about religion.

Why do these british historians always talk about an ancient hatered between the orthodox serbs and catholic croats?? The 2 nations entered the kingdom of yougoslavia in 1918 this was the first time they had a chance to live together and to get to know eachother after 20 years of serbian dictatorship came 1941 and look at this now ancient hatered, didnt know 20 years make it ancient??
