The electronics were mounted high on the chassis, so they didn't go under - or even get wet.
Now, the servo I run is a Traxxas waterproof one mounted on the front axle. The electronics are mounted in a tupperware container and are siliconed up. If I don't run in water, I leave the container lid off, so the ESC doesn't get too hot.
Well, I have since rebuilt the truck and relocated the servo to the front axle. I chose the Traxxas high torque waterproof one and have submerged it many times - no problem.
The ESC is a Novak Rooster Crawler. Since it sits high on the chassis, along with the receiver, they are pretty much out of harm's way unless you flip over in the water. I may seal them in balloons soon though.
no tamiays suck axial is the best outta the box but a modded wheely king will kick its ass but if u dump a months pay check in to a clod then u got a decent crawler so its all about how much money u want to spend
I almost bought a CR-01, but I have an Axial SCX10 coming instead (for a New Bright JK Jeep body I got.) I then considered a CC-01 for scale, but ended up with a TT-01 drifter instead. Thought I'd give that a try. :)
The WK axles are stouter than the Axials, but I'm still trying to get the turning radius of a stock AX-10.
Check my page out for my latest, Wide World of RC Crawling. There is a high-res version hosted on Vimeo .c om
I've been considering a straight axle basher for some time now. My AX10 has been modified with the TCS X-trail chassis and I'm waiting for a clod body with all the bits and bobs to arrive ($85 on ebay!!) to make it a proper scaler.
My WK has gone from a basher to a semi-scale dedicated crawler. Still running the stock chassis though. You can see the same truck in my video "Wide World of RC Crawling" It's the AMC Pacer lol.
im saving up for one! i have a mini lst its fun to drive but it can only go so far. i also figured out it isnt waterproof the hard way :( but its fun to chase dogs. but i want to get a WK to go mudding, crawling, and go places my lst cant. i getting waterproof stuff for it though to prevent what happened last time. also great great videos love them!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks! Yeah, we've had great fun with them. I had a Mini Baja for a while and now I have a nitro LST2. Heh. We all have Losis.
Mudding is fun and WKs are not too hard to waterproof down low. My ESC and receiver are not waterproofed yet. A stock WK can get wet down low since it has the servo mounted high. For crawling you'll have to mount it low, I used the one from a Traxxas Slash.
Check out Swamp Dwellers III, those are the same WKs if you can believe it!
The electronics are mounted high on the stock chassis, so you can usually go as deep as the top of the stock tires. However, you are taking a big risk since water can splash up there. I added a Rooster Crawler ESC to this truck and while not waterproof, it is water (i.e. splash) resistant.
My latest crawler is completely water resistant for ease of mind.
They are not waterproof. Stock electronics ride high in the chassis, though. I have since rebuilt mine a couple times and placed the Slash servo on the front axle. Most Wheely Kings are 4wd, I've locked the diffs and transmission in mine and lowered the gearing.
I'll have a new Swamp Dwellers video up this week...more water fun!
"Louisiana Bob" by Maximum the Hormone, a Japanese metal band - one of my favorites. I've got a new song from them lined up for Swamp Dwellers III which should be finished soon.
WKs are great! Mine will only go about 5 mph since I installed a 55t motor for crawling. All torque, no speed. Good luck modding yours, there are more and more speed WKs popping up! It makes a good crawler and trail racer.
Yeah this chassis looks prett much identical to that of a monster truck, there isnt a big difference with the wheely king chassis and a reall on accept maybe with the roll cage, there isnt a roll cage on a wheely king. And the monster mutt thing will all depend on time money and skill im thirteen and i dont have a ton of skill and 0 painting experience
i do not get this, no one really uses a wheely king as a monster truck. it has the most scale looking chassis wheels and body to a real monster truck. Im planing as using mine as a a monster truck, gonna make it amonster mutt or cowboy
You've got a point there. The vertical plate chassis is the same style used on the real monsters. WKs are mostly coveted for their straight axles - essential for crawling. Back when I started crawling it was this, a TLT or an axial. Now there are many RTR crawlers.
Keep me updated on your project. It sounds like fun!
Emaxx water proof servo, mtroniks no limit 100% waterproof esc and receiver in a bag. I've had it floating a few times and up to the shell in thick mud.
Coupled with the 7 cell and 19t 600 size motor it's excellent fun
There's 2 Traxxas waterproof servo's. I One is approx 120oz and the other is approx 80oz. I got the 80oz one and it's not that much better than stock to be honest. The standard plastic steering links don't help much. I recommend going for the stronger waterproof one from traxxas. They both look the same. I assume it's just from a later Emaxx 2 or something or a Revo
Nope. Stock steering servo location (up high) for now. I am using a Novak Rooster Crawler ESC whch is water "resistant" and so far so good. The only thing underwater is the battery.
jeez, people just need to balloon their servos and shit lol

Hiya m8 thinking of getting 1 of these just wondering if you have done anything to protect the elctrics in the truck? Cheers!

These are not stock. Lock the axles and lower the gearing and they become a different animal. Also, spellcheck.

How is the Emaxx servo? I was thinking of using it but I wasn't sure about the torque. I have a Slash on order, I plan to test its waterproofability!
