Personally I loved the album, though I think I do prefer Playing the Angel to Sound of the Universe.

as for the Alan thing, he was brilliant and great for the band, but I find ULTRA (the first album made after Alan's departure) to be their best album as a whole & my favourite.

DM has sucked since wilder left after songs of faith...truthfully, even that album had some really weak spots imo.  sotu is actually a little better than their previous few albums. But, I am amazed that they can still pack stadiums in north america, or anywhere really, other than eastern europe.

Exciter a dud? Hardly. Sure, it has a couple of poor tracks but its gorgeous.

The sad thing about SOTU is that, for instance, the studio session version of corrupt is a million times better tahn the album version.

Oh and by the way, if you are going to use samples from a computer at least get them to sound half decent so they can back up the argument because at the moment, dieselboy is losing ;-)

This video is a little too much, but yes, SOTU Does suck. Especially, Come Back, Hole to feed (Rumba style), Fragile Tension sounds as an incomplete version.

It's not their fault but of the producer and his guys,Depeche Mode is still a good band but they seriously need to let Alan Wilder come back in the band,he's the genius.

Anyways in SOTU Dave's vocals performances are improved.But most of the song are rally embarassing...

I hope they will understand and kick Ben Hillier ass for the next album...

And more,they don't need to retire,they are a legend in music and they can still make good music.

I understand what you are saying but everyone is blaming poor Ben Hillier... it's not just his fault that SOTU is a crap! I mean band (dave/martin and fletch) should know what songs work for the album what dont! In this case non of the songs is solid enough. yeah its embarrassing but don't only blame Ben Hillier.. I think it;s morre bands fault that this album stink.. they lost a lot of fans!
