You make the assumption that Iran is being run by rational people.... the above video suggests that they are not. The threat of retaliation may not deter such people. Ahmadinejad has said he wants to "wipe Israel off the map"... these are people of the same ilk as the 9/11 highjackers... do you really trust them with nukes?

if you'd stop caring so much about tel-aviv maybe you could put a friendlier policy in place so that they'd be converted to a more prosperous and rational way much faster than otherwise

How many tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands have you killed now to prevent a few crazy people from committing some petty bombings? (people who would have otherwise been decreasing if it weren't for endless wars, getting poorer and seeing tons of innocent countrymen getting blown up sure makes you peaceful)

So your solution is to do nothing, fine... there were a few in Europe that felt the same about Hitler... but you're right, I guess war just causes more problems. @10072018 The whole problem and part of the reason why they would want to use nukes (which I can't imagine they really and sincerely want to actually do) is precisely because of threats of war and other hostilities.
The risk of them getting nukes and actually using them...versus the actuality of what a war (and/or other continued hostilities (already in place)) against Iran would bring. Well I would just pick the first one, it's much more certain and the damage isn't minor.

@oilhammer04 Yes but you don't engage in wars if it obviously can't save more lives etc. than it takes away..... And no wars unless you have some clue as to what to do (presumed weapons of mass destruction one day, bin laden the other, establish democracy the next...) and how to do it.
And you know you don't invade a country with and entire army to catch a few bad guys, or to establish democracy (that takes fcking decades, probably goes faster and smoother if not done by force)....

Handianus, I think it is probably a waste of time to try to introduce democracy to Muslim countries, because they have no use for it. Occasionally, it is good to take out one of their tyrants to remind them that their sins will find them out, if not now, then in eternity.

Have you not figured out that Eisenhower (the last general to be president) was right when he said the military industrial complex under any president is one of the greatest threats to our liberties?

Soundmoneyfan, I agree we shouldn't be spending money we don't have. However, wars are made more expensive by politics. Of course, when you look at what is/was being done to citizens of countries like Iraq, and Sudan, it is hard to turn away.
