  • King still has that lighted bass.

  • Why did they come out with an album 12 years after their last one? Bored? Contract obligation? Whatever, I think the rest did them good. Great song.

  • Уникальный чел! !!!

  • EXtreeeeeeeeeeemly creative music.

    I Love it !!!

  • Level 42, ta energia po prostu rozsadza. Świetne granie piękna melodyka.

  • This is my favorite Level 42 song. I have been a fan for about 25 years and there songs never grow old for me.

  • So sick! What happened to good bands like this? We're now stuck with Lady GaGa and Ke$ha and the like. Hooray!

  • Is this fairly recent?

  • @blairmonster

description box says it's November of 2006

  • 42 is AIRTIGHT--and I defy ANY other band to bust like this live.

  • no its not live easy indication the drums arnt miked lol

  • playback...

  • no way

    level always play live

  • @jembozzo come on man, you know thats not true. They may have always sang, but there not always plugged in. Ive seen it on youtube already. But who cares, this freakin song rocks!!!

  • You know what, this is a good "vintage sounding" Level 42 song. Why on earth didn't thry release this instead of The Way Back Home!?

  • eny won vor shum leshons in luf so i a can shag all zhi pritty garlsh!

  • they better not be lip synching right now!

  • They are! It's unfortunate, but I guess it's pretty common on a lot of these euro music shows.

That doesn't detract from Level 42....we just need to get them on Jimmy Kimmel Live, or some other show that features awesome live music. :)

  • yeah we do! haha let's start a petition :)

  • @padseenoodle

going to work on that for next year!

  • been listening to them for years and met the gang in 87' or 86'... never heard this song... its nice... reminds me of the old stuff

  • perfect hert wind and fayer

  • i've been on a few shows myself, and it's amazing how many of them REQUIRE the artist to play to a track.... they do not allow live playing. lots of sound and tech and experience required to make it sound good... and they just don't wanna spend the money... so the have the bands take all their gear there to setup, and play to a dam track.... LAME! i remember seeing Bare Naked Ladies do that, and they On Purpose played REALLY off from the track hahaha! loved it!

  • i love how they almost use the filters to hide their own talent and contribute to the music, rather than just showcase themselves as really tallented blokes

  • For all of you that say this is a playback and doubt of their tallent whatch the Mark King bass solo here on youtube or any live performance.

  • mmm... sounds like playback...

  • yea - but the funny thing is is that unlike 99% they actually would sound even tighter than the original recording if they were to play live!

  • I love their music.

Oh, and MTV stopped showing music in the late '90s. Now they show "idols".

    Bah.

  • weak backing tape! this doesn't let people like level 42!!!

  • hmm i am a great level 42 fan and i know very much about them, but this version isn't very great, check out the retroglide tour version!

  • I always liked Level 42 but never appreciated their talent until I heard this. These guys are brilliant.

  • This song is unbelievable!! I agree with Beckenbauers!! this is the real music!! and real musicians! they are the artists that must be rewarded going to buy their CD!!! let's save this music!! ... many young artists don't deserve our money!! I don't reveal names.

  • Don't need to, there's just too many to name. :P

On other notes, great tv performance. Now if only there was the video for them playing with Casiopea..

  • Absolutely top class pop!! It should be broadcasted on MTV so the younger generation got the opporunity to listen to real quality musicians

  • I agree Beckenbauer (Franz?) However that would be beyond their intellectual capacities.

  • Indeed, while recognizing each generation thinks their music is superior, most modern pop and R&B really IS technically pale by comparison :)

  • I agree 100%, but let's savour what they know nothing about. I've been listening to them since I was in my teens..over 20 years now...and they just get better!

  • @beckenbauers I's not really very fair to generalise. I know exactly what you mean though, most of my generation listen to such shite naming the typically obvious stuff: Lady Gaga/Justin Bieber etc. But there are some of us including myself who ADORE excellent music such as Level 42. They are my all time favourite band and I even had the extreme pleasure of seeing them live last month ;)

  • @StrawberryJungle hell yeah man stuff the new stuff and love the old

  • @beckenbauers Agreed, kids these days, listen only Rap/BAD R'n'B, they really start to dig deeper in (Thats what she said.) to the music.

  • @beckenbauers What's a "musician"? ;o)

  • omg level 42 at jensen! i never expected that :O

  • c'est énorme ce groupe , cette chanson est incroyable tant harmoniquement que rythmiquement.

  • Funky Funky!!! They still have it. Viva Level 42. There my all time favorite band. Mark King is AWESOME!!!

  • and the presenter is better than Paul O'Grady & Richard and Judy :D

  • Almost expected to see Starksy & Hutch and Huggy Bear for a second. The music reminds me of that era.

  • Starsky & Hutch was circa mid 1970's, so the music would have been Like ELP, ELO, Peter Frampton, Stanley Clarke, Earth Wind & Fire and Herbie Hancock, to name a few. Take ur pick. :-) Level 42 debuted around 1981

  • oxoPCetoxo - I agree the intro is similar to the theme to S&H !

  • Nevertheless the Funk-Context is right - he said it "reminded him" of this era.

  • I Love they all harmonise together and these people can actually SING and PLAY THEIR OWN INSTRUMENTS. Come on you so-called artists out there you can do it too. JUST WATCH AND LEARN FROM.......LEVEL 42. Ta Dow! How do you like it now!!

  • I hate to tell ya but they're miming...but they definately can play, wonder why they chose to mime, s'pose for TV reasons? There's no drum mics, not to mention the cymbal hits he's missing, even considering the video delay time. Plus, it sounds too good, even for them.

  • It's probably due to licencing laws surrounding broadcasts - they had to mime on their Top Of The Pops appearances as well.

  • Aye, that's also how that famous low-singing version of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' came to exist; most bands who take pride in truly making their music by themselves hate it when they have to mime while performing in a tv show.

Check out other TV show performances from Level 42; you'll see they look less pleased & motivated than when they're performing live.

  • Tv Situation - many bands do. But the CAN play. Saw them live 3 times, and its one of tightest bands ive ever seen!

  • hey, that´s a real funky sound, much "deeper" as a lot of their older songs, very big. it´s on my favorites now, thanks for posting.

  • mark needs to bring back the jaydee bass on stage and get rid of that king bass

  • @StaytonHeyward Why? It sounds great... Jaydees sound like farts with no bottom end whatsoever, hence why he doesn't play them anymore...

  • Are they doing playback ?

I don't see a single microphone on the drums!

    Great song!

  • I agree..this is a GREAT song, all the elements of pop w/ funk undercurrent of course. After about 5 seconds you will bop your head to this track. Wish this album would've caught on in the States. Gotta get it!

  • I have to say, for all the times I thought that they were done forever and then they come back from out of nowhere... it is damn good to see this!

  • I plan on ordering the retroglide cd & Dvd from their website as soon as i can afford it ... its the nest best thing for this Canadian to seeing them live ..this video is awsome :) .

  • So good to see these guys looking and sounding so great. Always one of my favorite bands. Classic sounding Level 42. *Mwah*

  • The guitarist is Mark King's brother,Dominic.Talented family!

  • I thought his name was Nathan?

  • Cool song :D Gonna buy the record, but nobody sells it here in Norway :( Jævla potetland

  • Then burn it, buy it on line, or order it from their site. It's a great album, and I'm not even a die-hard fan.

  • They found their "True Colours" sound again on this track. Touch of Dream Crazy as well and definitely the bassline from Lovegames.

Haven't had a chance to listen to their new album, but judging by this it sounds like the 84/85 era.

  • Mark is playing the retroglide king bass here which comes a standard with chrome pick up's wonder why he chose to have black.

  • Great song from the new album.

  • Holy crap you're that guy who made their website!

There, you've heard it. Keep working on it

  • Aw man!! Ik stopte ongeveer die maand nèt met Jensen kijken, treden ze daar opeens op. Oh well, ik heb ze tenminste live in Den Haag gezien XP

Mostly sounds like the album version indeed, except for that sax solo. Hmm...

  • love the new album...my favorite band

  • yes..but the sexyness is still there!

  • where's the hair gone!!!

  • Why'd I miss this? :(

  • Were they miming? SOunds exactly like the album version...

  • That's what happens when you listen to a good band

  • fabulous!! brought back such good memories of the tour this year.thanx Morgan!! got any more?

  • Great to see them on Dutch TV.

  • I love this beat of this song! Great to see them getting their props! I just hope they come to the U.S. Take your time guys and don't over do it. Get your rest.

  • Great to see Mike Lindup back in the lineup. This is a great song, just wish they would have played it live! Thanks for sharing.
