There are at least six towns/cities named Tecumseh in the USA and Canada including Tecumseh Michigan and Tecumseh Ontario. All were named for the great Shawnee chief Tecumseh, who led an alliance of tribes that fought brilliantly along side the British during the War of 1812. He was eventually defeated and killed in battle in Ontario in 1813, after which most tribal resistance in the Great Lakes region fizzled out.
