i have same problam . this is what you need to do .GO to Setting turn airplane mode ON and then turn back off you will see it will search for network.this is not right way to fix but it help lot.so you dont need ro restart you phone every time

The problem is that the tray that holds the sim card is made of metal and makes contact with the sim card. When this happens, it shorts out the sim. What you need to do is remove the sim card, place a VERY THIN sliver of tape on the long edge of the sim ( the side opposite the notched side) that sits in the tray. What you are doing is insulating the potential connection point between the sim contact and the metal tray the sim sits in. Should not have to do this if Apple built it right

Go to AT&T and tell them your sim is glitching they will replace it. Problem solved!

In case you guys wanted to know what causes this, it's when the little ejector pin (which is metal) for the sim card tray (which is also metal) touches the sim card contacts and/or the tray which causes a short in the sim card. Mine was doing it too, but when I couldn't get an Apple store appointment for a week, I tried to fix it because I was going out of town for the weekend. I purchased my 32g on launch date and before the end of week 2 I was getting this issue and like so many others only noticed when took it out of my pocket to make a call. I did'nt get a lot of help from either my network 02 or Carphone Warehouse where I purchased it and both stated they were unaware of this particular issue. After seeing it was widespread on various forums , booked genius bar and got an exchange no hassle , have'nt had the issue since I urge others to do the same !!!!

Same here. Super annoying. I don't even have to be on a phone call, it'll happen in my pocket. I'll realize it, then fix it through the airplane mode, then get a bunch of late text msgs!!!

my phone does this too! it was terrible i was on a flight to Dallas and my plane had landed in Oklahoma and me flying by myself was scared and i couldnt even get a hold of my mom to let her know! it is SO annoying...

My wife had the same problem and she returned it to apple and they swapped it for a new one. Thought this might be an isolated issue but guess not. Today got the same error on my phone (what are the odds). Toggles airplane and so far it works but at this point very disappointed with apple quality control.
