  • Thank you I have been searching for"The creators Of Rain " for a long time.Same with "Summer Wages " Thought no one was ever going to post it.

You have made my day. I just loved listening to these 2 singing together. At that time I thought these 2 were the best and I really miss them. I still love listening to them.

You have made my day ! Thank you !

  • My wife and I met Ian and Sylvia in Stratford, Ont. after a concert. They were great to talk with. Very open and candid. The "Lovin' Sound" album had just been released. Ian was not at all happy with the LP. He said it was a little too bland. But I loved it then and still do. But I loved everything they ever did. What voices!

  • I haven't heard this song since high school! Awesome!!!!

  • I love their music. Ian sang a song called Lone Wolf that was really beautiful. Nadine

  • I had the 45 w/ Creators of Rain. So good to hear this again...Haven't been able to find it anywhere not even iTunes.

  • Hey come Home .

  • Ahh, I miss them. The 15 tracks I have aren't nearly enough, even though you can't find any of them on here except You were on my mind...I should upload those someday. Thanks for the video. More people need to know about these guys.

  • Ian and Sylvia were the first duo I ever saw in concert who were not from my home area- they still rock imho!

  • c'est joli...

  • I saw I & S at the Town Hall in 64, the New School in '65, Carnegie Hall, '66, Philarmonic Hall, '67, Cafe Au Go Go, '65, the Shafer Music Fest in Central Park, '66, all in NYC, had their first 9 albums, safe to say I was a fan. Fave albums, Four Strong Winds, Northern Journey, The Great Speckled Bird, all because of the complex musicianship, arrangements and song writing.

  • GSilverWorld, ThanX 4 posting!!! Creators Of Rain" The song was originally recorded by a duet, in the late 60's called "Smokey & His Sister"~THEIR version is the MOST TOTALLY awesome version EVER....EVER~I have been searching in search engines for it forever!!!~~The answers I receive were ANYTHING but the REAL thing! ONLY now am I gettig a few authentic responses!!! Gooosh I hope Someone PLEASE uploads THAT version to youtube..I think ANYONE who hears it will agree...there is NO comparison!!!

  • Thank u for "Creators of Rain". I only heard it once, while living in Lethbridge, Alberta, but I've always remembered it as 1 of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

  • Maabudz, you are right. This album is not as great as the Vanguard discs, but Loving Sound and Creators of Rain are still wonderful songs.

The Vanguard "Summer Wages" is better, more pure folk style.

Cjthemusicman, More Often Than Not is a really good showcase of Ian's voice, and an unusual song. I like it a lot, too.

  • nice

  • Words sometimes fail to express .. yet I can say Lovin' Sound has haunted me all my life.

    Many thanks for posting

  • I must ad that Summer Wages is a classic, best tune on the album.

  • One of my favorite folk groups of all time. I listened to them all through my teens and 20s. That being said and owning the Vanguard 4 disc collection, this album was just not up to the earlier stuff. It was kind of shlocky IMHO. Different strokes, you understand

  • I used to vacation by their ranch in Newtonville ON in the 70s. Ian's best vocal of the Folk era is STORIES HE'D TELL from the Full Circle album in the 60s, a song about his dad and his youth on Vancouver Island. It's on one of the new compilation CDs.

  • worked in ontario in the early seventies, watched their progam on tv every week, brings back memories like they were yesterday

  • Lovin' Sound is pure magic. Thanks for posting this tune, it's one of the last songs I have needed to track down, with the net I've found almost everything else, this was a holdout because I didn't know who it was. Thanks again!

  • I saw them in concert when I was 17.... I never forgot it... besides their beauty, they had such talent....this makes me sad/happy...thank you!

  • Ian Tyson's voice is one of great hidden Canadian treasures, especially (and probably to his chagrin) on pop tunes such as this one. Give a listen to More Often Than Not....just spellbinding.

Sylvia provides superb backing and allows Ian's voice to be showcased. It would likely be a poorer recording if not for her excellent complementary counterpoint. Listen to :49 to 1:00, where she begins almost equal to him, then fades as he gathers strength, esp. at 2:00, where his voice gives me chills.

  • WONDERFUL!!! I wish someone would post Ian's version of More Often Than Not. I have it on an LP, and it's a gem!

  • One of my favorite 60's tunes. I love Sylvia

  • If I could only have one album, it would be "Ian and Sylvia", the Vanguard "red album". Loving Sound is good, though.

This is the second, "country" version of "Summer Wages". Check out the Vanguard recording.

On all the Vanguard albums, you get three versions of each song. Turn the balance one way, you get Ian, the other, Sylvia, and in the middle you get their blended voices.

  • This is my all time favourite Ian & Sylvia song. Their two very different voices somehow harmonise on those phenomenal notes to make a haunting classic.

Without it, you ain't livin', boy; you're just gettin' up each day and walkin' around... WOW!

  • KaptKan1, you took the words out of my mouth! Lovin Sound is my favourite Ian & Sylvia song too! I bought the album specifically for that song. Love the depth of Ian's voice. So soothing.......

    Regards, Darlene

  • This is so sad for me, because I wanted to see more of their videos especially when they were singing alongside the Great Speckled Bird. I hope these people would be more than welcome to find some more Ian and Sylvia album, including those from the Columbia Record release of the"best of Ian and Sylvia( Not just the vanguard release. Thanks! My favorite by Ian Tyson, is More often Than Not.

  • Wow i never heard "Lovin' Sound" before. it's a great song. I got 3 Ian & Sylvia LPs.. greatest hits 1 & 2, and Northern Journey. Their stuff is hard to find though.

  • I just bought a 4 disc set of their entire Vanguard period. (I always preferred their early stuff.) It's fantastic. Got it off the internet just by googling them - the point being their stuff is out there if you want it. Only about $40, I might add.

  • "4 disc set of their entire Vanguard period"

I got the same one !

I never missed one of their appearances at The Cellar Door in D.C.,-- my buddy owned the place. There aren't many groups I'd watch two or three nights in a row, but they were definitely one of them.

Ian was a great guy, warm & friendly. Sylvia I never really met since they largely went their separate ways off-stage.

CD don't convey the quality of Ian's voice & immense POWER. Sitting right in front of them was mind-boggling.

  • .....back again!

  • never hit 17 when you play against the dealer

  • for sure.....

  • Always hit a soft 17, double it down against dealers 4,5,6

  • .....good tip, next time I'm in Vegas.

  • of course!

  • .....came back for another visit.

  • Lovin' Sound! Haven't heard this in ages! I'm sooo thankful that I happened across your vids! I subbed to your channel!

Thank you for bringing these lost classics back to us.....

  • Thank you for the post, GSilver. Would love to hear some of their earlier stuff. He was so good, I always thought

  • I don't have everything by them. Maybe "Some Day Soon", and imperfect recording of Four Strong Winds. Hope someone else will give it attention. But I now have Love Is Strange by them.

  • Fantastic song!

  • Your note implies that "Summer Wages" was the A-side. But Sylvia in an interview (by Richie Untermeyer, perhaps?) explained that the Columbia LP contract was because some honcho believed that "Creators of Rain" was a surefire hit for a male female duo. So I & S did their best (which was pretty good, if you ask me) but the honcho was wrong, it wasn't a hit. "Summer Wages" was improved over the original on SO MUCH FOR DREAMING. It should've been a hit!
