i would enjoy much more movies of this genre! there is definately not enough of these :)
I used to think this was a live version movie of Iron Man because of the little character in the anime. But I used to then think that the cartoon Johnny Quest was based off this movie. I was lost for a while trying to figure this stuff out.
I really loved this film. The storyline and visual effects were great. Keanu Reeves & Dina Meyer made a very hot screen couple. Johnny Mnemonic is one of most underrated Sci-Fi films of the 90's - along with FutureSport, The Time Shifters, Virtuosity, Tha Lawnmower Man, Alien 3, Space Truckers, Strange Days, The Arrival, Mimic, The Apocalypse (1997), Virus, RoboCop 2, Them, Body Snatchers, eXistenZ, Sphere, Judge Dredd, Anaconda, The Relic, The Shadow Men, The 13th Floor, Dark City etc
i bought the VHS of this movie and watched it many times, i thought it was a hit now iam looking it up on the internet and seeing it was a hit only to me.
This film is so epically schlocky it's delicious. I love that it uses phrases like "synaptic seepage" and has a scene where Keanu talks about sinking some guys "mainframes" XD
For anyone comparing this to Matrix: this movie was based on a short story by William Gibson, who created himself a "matrix" universe as can be read on his Sprawl Trilogy books. As a matter of fact, lots of stuff on the Matrix movie should be credited to Gibson. For starters, just check out the Neuromancer cover which features a woman whose face (and description on the book) perfectly pictures Trinity.
Just to prove who inspired who (or copied), Neuromancer was released in 1984. Do the math.
@loIipz I guess you're right..lol. But the thing is - and don't get me wrong, I love the Matrix movies - I was completely disappointed because of so much that was copied from the books. That would be great if the film was based on the books but since it wasn't it's just shameful. To get inspired by someone else's work is one thing, to rip off is another.

Why so many people compare this film to Mortal Kombat? Absolutely different movies. Anyway I love them both
I LOVED this movie when it came out. Now that it's a bit dated it's got it's funny parts. However, I think Keanu was a good choice for the courier and I'm not just saying that since he was Neo. I'm going to have to watch it again. That and check out Neuromancer from the libray and read it again. This movie was a little ahead of it's time. Very ambitious considering that Gibson was way ahead of his time as well. And, yes, "Hit me", "I NEED A COMPUTER!" and room service are my fav quotes.:)
